The monarch butterflies we saw were outside in the garden, so don't skip the outside portion. They have a small plant sale with a lot of cuttings. If you need a place for a toddler to run around on a car trip, this would be a good place to stop.

Honestly if I hadn't googled it I thought it was just someone displaying their art. So after googling, we decided to make a stop and boy was it fun to walk around the property! It is much bigger then what you see driving by. My grandkids would have enjoyed all of the metal art pieces and I had a blast walking around and even found a treasure to take home. I wish I could have taken that Cedar Lion but it doesn't fit in the jeep. Only reason I didn't give it a five was I felt they should have shipping options ready, more small options, and a place to sit and maybe have a snack, simple meal and coffee or drinks. Prices on some items seemed too high, most fairly priced. Again for tourists getting items home that are large is an issue and I'd recommend the owners looking into options for their customers instead of customers needing to find a way.

Grades on this gravel road up to 25 percent. Off the beaten path is an understatement. The wine was spectacular, the setting - alone on the mountaintop entirely surrounded by National Forest, and the staff were informative and friendly. (Tip: the husband is more detailed with the wine descriptions, while the wife serves bigger pours - at least in my case.) Given the difficulty of reaching this place I was surprised to find it fairly busy on this Saturday evening, with several groups sitting at comfortable tables and couches. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a flight of 5 wines. All great so I had to buy some to take home too. It was hard to stop at two bottles. In an addition to the amazing ambience, windows all around with views of the National Forest and orchards in every direction, there was also music that night: a man singing and playing his guitar. He was pretty good. I learned he makes the rounds playing at several wineries around here. This is a family-run business. In addition to the husband and wife I met there is also a brother or two and I think a son or daughter. They also run an event venue, visible from the winery over on the next hill. A relatively small business - the kind I like.

We checked this place out after returning from the scenic railroad excursion around 2 p.m. It is…read morelocated facing the railroad tracks about 2 blocks south of the train depot. It is beyond the new county courthouse building it what appears to be the prior courthouse. Admission is free, though donations are encouraged. Given that Blue Ridge is a fairly small town, the scope of their arts building was quite impressive. When we visited, they had a gallery exhibit that took up the entrance hallways plus what was the main courtroom. Many of the paintings were very good. My impression was that they host rotating exhibits like this periodically. There are certainly towns much larger than Blue Ridge that have nothing like this facility for their arts communities. In addition to this main exhibit, they also had an arts supply store in the building, as well as a kiln in the basement for pottery (including classes). They also offered classes in upstairs rooms, on various arts-related topics. I believe the town also hosts arts events a few times a year (like plein air sessions and festivals). If we make it back to Blue Ridge in the future, we'll likely return here to see what new exhibits are on display. I'm giving it a 5-rating due to it exceeding expectations by a wide margin.

But in at least two cases, the music was too loud and the dining was not particularly enjoyable. So when we got to Three Sisters and were able to sit out in their covered patio, with nice background music, it was so incredibly nice. I stuck with the dry reads and they did a really good job with those but there are still plenty of options for everybody, quite honestly. There's an inside and an outside to it but I ended up staying inside by the bar in the corner just to check out the scene. There were plenty of people coming in and out just to buy wine as well because they have wine for sale obviously. It was really a full-service operation there and everybody was so friendly. It felt like it was a family-oriented situation there. Overall the experience is pretty good. I don't have any complaints about it and if you're in the area you may want to stop by.
