I was a bit worried about trying out this Gym because of a bad experience with a different company in the area. I guess I was thinking they would all be the same. Wow! I am so glad I tried Choice Fitness. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt very comfortable here. The Manager saw me looking around and politely asked if he could help with anything. I explained that I was basically a novice when it came to weight training, but I wanted to try. I also explained that I had a particular training plan that another outside trainer created specially for me. Dave was so accommodating. He took me through each routine of my plan, showing me proper form, proper speed, and explained what muscles each exercise was working. He spent time with me on two separate days and went through all the exercises on my plan. I was really impressed by how friendly and knowledgeable he was. I never set an appointment for any of this. Just walked in the door. From what I've seen, this Gym is truly all about customer service. I'm so glad I joined. I only wish this 52 year old found this place sooner. Also, the equipment is all new and they have so much of everything! The facility is super clean. I feel I have finally found a Gym that makes everybody feel comfortable. My experience with Garrett E. in Chelmsford was extremely disappointing. I found his approach overly sales- focused and driven, and when I raised my concerns about how the training sessions were not clearly explained to me, he became very dismissive, lacking empathy and an overall "could not care less" attitude. His eagerness to cancel rather than address my concerns ultimately contributed to my decision to leave after being a long time member. Clearly, they are all about the profit. I am now looking for a gym that values its members and treats their concerns with respect. read more

I do enjoy going to this fitness gym. The one in Lowell seems to be much better than the one at Chelmsford. Much more equipment and more open. Both locations need to work on member etiquette. People sit on the benches texting for 5 10 or 15 minutes at a time. Chelmsford, we will go blind trying to do a bench press because the lighting is very intense when lane on the bench. I'm surprised nobody has tried to address that. Chelmsford is overcrowded for workout equipment of plenty of cardio. Lowell is pretty well balanced. read more

This gym is clean. However, there's hardly anyone in there. I joined for 3 months & apparently I signed something allowing Choice fitness to charge me $336 every month for training sessions. Even after my 3 month membership expired. I know Garrett didn't tell me that I agreed to be billed for 8 sessions a month for life because I had no intention of continuing my membership beyond 3 months. I just wanted to use the gym for the winter & I didn't like this gym that much. When I asked for a $336 refund for 8 sessions, I hadn't scheduled and wasn't going to be able to use before my membership expired I was told they had to hold me to contract along with talking to me like I'm an idiot. With so many options to work out at home & the low attendance at Choice Fitness in Chelmsford, I'd recommend anywhere else. read more

Stay away from this horrible health club! My father is a member. He had a stroke a year ago and I have been having to pay his bills. A year ago I called the owner to tell them my Dad had a stroke, was partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair and asked to cancel his membership. They told me I either had to send a certified letter or had to go there in person to cancel. I explained that I am immunocompromised and didn't feel comfortable going to go there to cancel. Nancy, the woman I spoke to said, in a very unkind tone of voice, "I'm sorry your father had a stroke in the middle of a pandemic." Wow! The empathy! I did go in there twice once I'd had a chance to get vaccinated and gee whizz, both times the person I needed to speak to wasn't there. Some months have passed as the care of my mother with dementia and my paralyzed father need constant care and obviously I have too much on my plate. My father had another stroke 2 weeks ago, is dying in hospice care and as I was paying his bills today noticed that in addition to the monthly $27.99 from choice fitness there was another one from them for $30.99. I called them to find out why and to again beg and plead with them to cancel the membership and they still won't do it without a letter or an in person visit to their club. Sign up for a membership with this club at your own peril. Shame on them. read more

The quality at Choice Fitness Chelmsford has dropped dramatically since Dave Mansfield left. I dropped my membership for a year because of Covid, having gone there for 5 years. Always using the same machines, taking the same classes. I just signed back up because of a good deal, and needing to get back in shape. Marion's Ageless class is still great, no complaints there at all. The problem is 100% the new manager, Phil. I stepped on one of the open stride machines and immediately it was off. Not matching my stride, there was even a grinding noise. Tried the machine next to it. Also off. The other two machines were matching stride just fine, but the computers weren't functioning as they used to. A man on one of the good ones said "here, this is the best one, take mine, I'm leaving anyway." I did for several minutes, but the computer kept shutting off every time I stopped moving for even a second, which was extremely annoying, and definitely not something that had ever happened before in the five years I'd been using them. However, when I reported these machines at the front desk, the woman at the desk blinked at me. I was told she didn't know anything about the machines, and she asked one of the trainers if he could "show me how to use it." I explained I know those machines very well having used them a few times a week for 5 years, and they simply weren't functioning correctly. The trainer got on and noted that the stride was off on the two machines, but said he wasn't sure the computers could be fixed. Said he'd have someone check them out. Okay, great. Except today I asked at the front desk if those machines had been fixed, and received another blank stare. "Which machines?" I was asked several times. "The open stride trainers." "The ellipticals?" "No, the open stride trainers. Those four over there. I've used them for years, and last time I was there two of them weren't keeping stride and the computers on the other two kept shutting down." The manager came over, and said "There's nothing wrong with those machines." I said "They've been fixed then?" "We just had them checked out, there's nothing wrong with them." "Okay, great." So I went to try them out. Nope. Still not working correctly. So I went back and told him so. The condescension dripping from this man's voice was clear. Apparently I was an idiot who didn't know how to use a machine I've been using for 5 years. After some back and forth I eventually became very upset and yes, I raised my voice. I told him I'd been a member for 5 years, know very well how to use the machines and had never been treated with such condescension and contempt just for pointing out something wasn't working correctly. He continued to tell me it was just my "opinion" that the machines weren't working correctly. I told him another member AND a trainer had clearly acknowledged to me that the machines weren't working correctly (also nobody was using them: they used to be extremely popular, at any time of day I'd often have to wait to get on one). But still, apparently it was just my "opinion." Then this darling white male snowflake decided he couldn't take having a voice raised to him by a woman, because he told me to leave. When I reiterated that I was a paying member and did not appreciate the way he was treating me, and that I believed his behavior was extremely misogynistic - I cannot fathom he would've been so flippant and dismissive to a male member - he actually called the police to have me escorted out. I told him to go ahead. At this point I was pretty furious. The woman at the desk jumped on each of the machines for a second, said "Oh, they're all fine, you must have just forgotten how to use them." Forget how to use a machine I've used for 5 years? Apparently the grinding noise was in my imagination too? I do not appreciate being gaslighted by someone who didn't even know what machine I was talking about when I called it by its correct name. She went on to tell me I had "escalated things..." Hmmm, I wasn't the one being a dismissive condescending jerk, so yeah, no. She's also been working there for quite awhile, and I was a member for quite awhile, and oddly enough this is the first time this kind of thing has ever happened with me as a member. She's going to blame me for that instead of the new manager who has no people skills and clearly doesn't care about the upkeep? I told them to cancel my membership immediately. I was assured it would be. Once that was done, I left. As the police were coming in. Not sure what exactly he thought they were going to do to a woman just because she got upset with him for being a condescending, misogynistic jerk. But white men do like to call the cops on people for no good reason, don't they? I know how lucky I am that I'm a white woman and could just waltz out past the police officers. Someone else might not have been so lucky. Received confirmation of cancellation by email. Says "Reason: Member misconduct." Sure. read more

I couldn't remember exactly when my contract ended, so I called and asked. Someone gave me a specific date in March. So when I finally got a chance to go in to sign off, someone else gives me a different date (in April) of when my contract ends. I thought that was weird, but whatever-- it's just one more month. So signed off and everything and went on my merry way. BUT today, I went through my phone's old screenshots and found when the contract actually ended. It was supposed to end in February. They're definitely trying to scam me out of more money. And by the looks of it, they've tried scamming other people too. If they dare try anything else and keep charging me, I will get my lawyer involved. Be warned, NEVER sign up for this gym! The worst people work here-- they're neither helpful nor friendly! Like other posters I went in to cancel my membership once they reopened in July. I couldn't cancel earlier in person because they were closed and that is their policy. So they have now charged me the yearly fee for my renewal, which I just cancelled, stating that it would have been billed in May but they "deferred it because they were closed." Really? Wow. And they won't reimburse it because I didn't give them a 30 day notice. After reading these other reviews I guess I will eat the fee but I wish I had never joined at all! In general the fitness center is ok for someone looking for a place to get into an exercise routine. However, this Gym is no different when in comes to credit card billing. I wanted to cancel my membership after being told that the Covid Hold on automatic billing will be suspended after 6 months. When I called them, i was told to come into the center to submit an application. When I go to the center, ofcourse "the manager" was not available. Have we not gotten tired of these tactics? I am in a high risk group for Coronavirus so decided that I would not be comfortable going to a gym until things were back to normal. I tried calling Choice Fitness in Chelmsford to cancel starting in early April. I sent an email and also a message on Facebook. When they opened I didn't want to go in person to cancel (I have not been going anywhere.) but since they said I had to do it in person I went in on 7/7/2020 as soon as they opened. Now on 7/20/20 they are charging me $48.70 for annual club fees! This is two weeks after I canceled and months after I tried to cancel. Has this happened to anyone else? I think this is very bad business. First they make a high risk person come in to cancel, then they charge them for a year after they canceled even though they have tried to cancel for months! I am not one to complain, but this does not seem to be a fair business practice. read more

Tried to cancel on phone, but was told I needed to go in person. Went in person, but could not cancel because there was not a manager there... Rude front desk service and some of the personal trainers there stare you down because you're using equipment that they probably want to use with a client. Also the kid at the front with the glasses is super rude and unprofessional along with the big black kid who is a personal trainer there. CONS: Overall, the club staff and trainers have low integrity, lack of responsiveness, are manipulative and evasive. ** June 30, 2017 Update: After several meetings, letters, phone calls and finally my threat to escalate to a major negative publicity campaign coupled with legal action, I was finally reimbursed for the 6 sessions of training that were owed to me (from their failed subcontractor, Pure Core). But this only happened after I was able to contact the regional manager, Mr. Eric Boardman, who swiftly and effectively resolved this matter. [Because of Mr. Boardman's responsiveness, I upgraded my YELP rating from One Star to Two Stars.] The Chelmsford Club Manager, Dave Mansfield, and the Chelmsford Club Fitness Manager, Thea, were unwilling and unable to resolve the matter for over six months. Moreover, Thea was very condescending and inappropriately haughty with me. Please be very careful if you enter into any training agreements with this group. Report breach of training agreements early, in writing. If the trainers don't show up, cancel at the last minute, arrive late or do any other unfair practices, contact Mr. Boardman. The club staff offer no help or support at all. If the club staff do make any promises to make good on trainer deficits to you, get everything in writing. You must protect yourself if there is a clawback or if they try to renege on their agreement. This was my experience. I came in with my boyfriend all the way from Waltham and Everett because all the gyms are closed during this epidemic. Despite driving more than a half hour, I was very pleased coming in for the first time into this gym. The gym itself isn't so big but it has everything you need. But what really surprised us was how the manager was super understanding and helpful when we signed up. He explained the cancelling process and gave us his card if we had any concerns. He was very personable and collected even though the process of keeping a gym open at this time is stressful. I would drive up here just for that. read more

I can't say enough about this place. The hours are great and the staff is extremely friendly. I use the daycare services for my son occasionally and today was one of those days. I brought my son in and he was so upset for some reason. Crying and screaming and didn't want to leave my side. Well the daycare workers made him feel at ease and I was able to get a great workout in. I swear by the spin classes that steph teaches and I am in love with all the body pump classes. This place is dirty and SMELLS. As soon as you walk in you smell mildew and sweat. Walk in and smell for yourself. Every single piece of equipment has rust on it. Every cardio machine is cheap. Staff never clean and whatever cleaning solution and paper towel that is there for people to clean is cheap. Management and staff are unprofessional. They are rude and have no customer service whatsoever. They also NEVER answer the phones and make it impossible to cancel your membership. The people running this business are a bunch of thieves. Go to another gym that has newer equipment and better deals. Planet Fitness and Best Fitness are less than half the cost with way better equipment, are clean, do not smell, and have amazing staff. read more

I have memberships at more than one gym in the area and this one is by far my favorite. The facility is clean and well cared for and the staff are always friendly. They are one of the only gyms in the area that offer instructor choreographed barre classes as well which is what keeps me coming back to this gym, it's an unbelievable workout. read more

Went to cancel my membership right before my yearly renewal and they stuck it to me anyway. Also upon cancelling was told their is a 30 day cancellation so you will be charged again. No reimbursement for handicap members that have to cancel due to health related issues during COVID-19. Their only concern was all about the money and their annual maintenance fee. They charged me the annual fee after I had already cancelled my membership ship, they took the final month fee and then charged me for next year because they need 30 days notice and I had only notified them 16 days prior. A copy was never handed to me,as I do not recall ever signing one! We had only discussed the "2-week try-out". My E-mail, stating that I was NOT to continue (after agreed upon time), was conveniently ignored. Well... there was never an apology offered for this, but only contention & condescension towards me when I questioned the "secret" clause: "YOU should have listened/understood better the first time I explained it!", was Manger's curt response to this! Am I to understand that the Manager's incompetence & underhandedness were my doing? Management, as a WHOLE, showed no empathy. In addition, my comments and I are no longer welcome. Neither was I meant to be in classes where the Group X Manager (Steph), though an excellent instructor, resorted to favoritism among her students, lending to an over-all lack of camaraderie. Never a quality you'd like to find in a Fitness/Health Club. Leadership based on accountability & communication is sorely lacking, I'm afraid. The place is new opened - Feb of 2015, however there is nobody cleans the entire place. The same old shoes and dirty marks on the benches and rally, and also the shower area. In order to save the energy the sauna room is always off, please take note it should have on all the time to save energy but not on and off. Staffs are friendly, it should have done better, what a shame! Updated-2/26/17-two stars Finally, there were two persons to clean the place. Unfortunately, they were gone for several weeks, the result is the place has been so filthy ever since. Also, it is only a small space, there have not enough machines and spaces after peak hour-5:00 pm. A note to the members, please do not occupy the machines while you are texting, put down your phone and finish your exercise b/c there are other members who are waiting for the machines. Also, please wipe out your sweat after every use. The studio is so tiny and cannot sustain for over 30 persons in a yoga class because we have to stretch our arms and legs in many poses, if the place cannot support so many members please do not recruit so many new members, or find a new place in next door. If you are new to yoga please pass this gym, the teacher doesn't have time to teach the newbies in yoga class.
