Last I checked I wasn't a psychic so I'm trying to figure out exactly how they can claim such. They said that "it would take that part a certain amount of time to actually breakdown" so that would be the reason I had to know. Yes, I did try to appeal but that was just a waste of time since they had already determined that their answer wasn't going to change. If that is how equipment and parts are looked at I truly don't see how they assist in repairing/replacing anything! Do not waste time or money on this company. I will be taking my business elsewhere and hopefully find some place Veteran friendly. If this is how they operate I truly don't understand how they are still in business. I have been a Choice Home Warranty customer for several years and have consistently paid my premiums. My recent experience with a furnace claim has been frustrating. A technician dispatched by Choice Home Warranty visited my home on May 19, 2026, regarding concerns about a cracked heat exchanger. The technician performed a carbon monoxide test, but I was never provided with an inspection report, diagnostic findings, test results, or written conclusions. When I contacted Choice Home Warranty requesting documentation, I was told to contact the Sears technician directly. Since Choice Home Warranty selected and dispatched the contractor, I believe they should have access to and be able to provide the inspection results. Very disappointed and frustrated with Choice Home Warranty. I prepaid for a 2 year plan that ended on April 20 and clearly declined renewal when they contacted me. Despite that, they switched me to a monthly plan without my consent, using my credit card on file (last used with them 2 years ago for full, upfront payment) and are now claiming that I "never called to cancel". They said that the department that I spoke with in early April was the Sales Dept and I should have called and talked to a different department to cancel/not renew. This warranty company sucks. Customer service is a joke. They always attempt to say that any claim is not covered. They advertise one price and then charge a different price than what they advertised. My claim deductible is different than what they told me it would be when they were selling me the warranty. The monthly charge is over $10.00 more each month which is automatically drawn from my checking account. When I attempted to complain about it, I was told that I could cancel and pay a [huge] cancellation fee. I made one claim previously with them for plumbing stoppage. Their plumber they sent out (almost a week after claim was requested) didn't come out until after 7pm in the dark. He wanted the $100 service fee before even attempting to unclog the plumbing. He asked "why did you even flush the toilet?" Then he stepped out on my porch and said that I had to pay him the service fee and that he would come back later to unclog the plumbing. I shut the door on him and he stood outside screaming and cussing at me. I was not going to pay $100 for someone to just ask why I flushed toilet. I did research and found out that they guy they sent out had his plumbing license pulled over three months earlier. When I called Choice Home Warranty, they said that I should have paid the guy. I asked them why they didn't vet their plumber and they attempted to say they did. Me working in a law firm, I told them I knew how to research with the Texas Plumbing Licensure Board and he was not licensed. After that, then they sent someone else out (again had to wait two more days). Now, every year I have my air ducts cleaned out. Yesterday, they came out to clean the ducts (not through Choice) and they saw that mold was starting up within the unit in the upstairs closet. The air duct cleaner took photos of it to show that it has just started out and they stated that when it happens in the unit, it means there is some type of leak somewhere and the air ducts need to be sanitized and the leak fixed. I called Choice this morning and I was told they do not cover mold. I told them what the air duct guys said and then the guy at Choice said that they don't cover but I can make a claim (one for air duct and one for AC unit) and they can send someone out and pay the $100 service fee for each of the claims but they do not cover. I reviewed my policy with the guy while I was on the phone but he was just set in his head that Choice would not cover anything. I read to him what WAS covered (air ducts [unless collapsed] which they are not collapsed) and air condition leaks. I read their EXCLUSIONS to him and in no place in the policy does it say mold starting from where a leak is happening is EXCLUDED. I asked to speak with someone higher up and was told there were no supervisors and that I could make a claim (that would not be fixed but they would collect the $100 deductible fee for each of the two claims they wanted to make. Remarkable the effort they will go to to deny a covered claim, at least half the time. The foreign call center is also a huge challenge. I've been with Choice for years and it's so disappointing. Again today...I have a leaking pike under a sink. They first assign a plumber who does not work with them. I kept calling Choice and they Said, we've talked to VJ plumbing and they'll come out. I finally track down VJ plumbing and they Tell me, no, Choice sent us an email and fired us a while back because we charge too much and choice won't pay, they want the cheapest vendors who are usually bad or new. So I have to call back and get The Philippines call center two more times until on the third call I can get someone to agree to transfer me to "resolution management" to get an American to assign an actual plumber to my leaking pipe! He comes out and says Yup, it's leaking, has to be replaced. Choice denies the claim because "we don't cover modifications or upgrades. Your pipe will be replaced per code so that's a modification and an Upgrade". The plumber is just replacing the pipe - that's it - and he's licensed so it will be to code. She said, we consider replacing the pipe to be a "modification". I pointed out that every single repair is a modification then? ....she said, yes, I see what you are saying and underStand your frustration. I asked how I could get a plumber to replace a leaking pipe and not have it be considered a "modification" even though I pay for leaking pipe coverage??? She paused and repeated "yeah...if it's being replaced it will be "modified"". I asked how could a leaking pipe, which I'm covered for, NOT be considered a modification?? And she Said..."it can't". I said, this is a word game to get out of paying and she sighed and very Kindly empathized. This happens 75% of the time!! My last claim was my washing machine. The tech they sent came in my house and saw a cat and said, "I'm allergic! I don't need to see the Machine, I'll just order all the hoses and replace Them all, that's usually it". He never even looked at it! Then he disappears and after ONE MONTH of my calling the Philippines Then choice says they won't repair it they'll replace it, due to that techs costs. For my exact machine it costs $750 to get a new one. They gave me $412. When I called to ask they said, well the contract says "our wholesale cost". What whole sale cost? She said, "well if we bought it wholesale, that would be OUR cost". I asked her to do that then. She said "oh we don't do that for the customer". What??? So you pay me what your wholesale cost would be IF you bought it, but you don't do that, and so I pay $750????...."yes". And its To their discretion! So if your furnace dies ....what happens then? And she said, "it always to our discretion". They get away with basically robbery. I can NOT recommend Choice. They will always always try to not pay. I've had about 10 claims with them over 10 years and only Once did they just repair it and pay for a covered claim. ONCE and that Was my HVAC and it Took THREE months at the height of summer. I called every week for three months and they Kept saying the part isn't in. I tracked down the vendor finally and asked, What part?? He told me the part and told Me it was still back ordered. In 20 minutes I found it online and bought it and got It repaired. The cheap vendor didn't want to pay $75 for the part, instead of his $40 so we spent three months over 90 degrees. Based on my stressful experience, STAY AWAY FROM CHOICE Appliance Insurance Company! It's almost like a scam!!!! I deeply regret purchasing a home warranty from Choice Appliance Insurance/Home Warranty. The sales pitch sounded amazing, but my actual experience has been extremely disappointing and stressful. The salesperson, who said his name was Troy, promised me that every time I called for a claim, he personally would answer and help me through the process. I signed up and paid a premium just for this reason. Troy was a LIER! That promise turned out to be completely false. He also pushed very hard for me to sign a 5-year contract. Thankfully, I only signed up for one year. I filed a claim in December 2025 because my refrigerator icemaker stopped working. Choice assigned Amos Appliance Repair, and dealing with that company became a nightmare, as well. Although the technicians were polite, most of the repair techs did not speak English. . Calls and texts weren't returned until 1 - 2 weeks later, and appointments were often scheduled at the last minute -- sometimes with only a couple hours' notice. From December 2025 through May 10, 2026, about 6 months, there were around 10 repair attempts, and the icemaker wasn't fixed. After months of frustration, I contacted Choice again and was suddenly told I could use my own repair technician and be reimbursed. This was never clearly explained to me before, and I never received the email they claimed they had sent. I then spoke with a supervisor, hoping for a resolution. Instead, I was told the company would continue repairing the refrigerator indefinitely and would never replace it. When I questioned whether the company was simply dragging the process out until my contract expired, all I received was, "I'm sorry." They use the worst contractors and you need to file an appeal and wait 7 days for the appeal to be approved or disapproved. If the appeal is approved, you have to wait another 30 days to receive your refund if you paid for it yourself. You pay the contractor $75 to come out to your house and he quotes you a price that the insurance will not approve. I recently had an air conditioner fail because their contract technician didn't diagnose the problem over three visits and 30 days. This led to the compressor in the A/C system burning the outdoor motor out because there was no coolant in the compressor. Should have been simple but they didn't check the compressor until the 3rd visit. When you try to appeal their decision not to cover, they shut you down immediately. I have a small claims court case against them in California for this utter failure. It turns out they aren't registered to do business in California so they work through a registered business agent, Home Service Club of California. They in turn use a registered business agent called Registered Agent Solutions, Inc. They have layered up so it's impossible to serve them notice of a court case. The only way to protect your home is to not use them. If there is a class action lawsuit I would sign-up because of the way people are mislead and cheated. I have only 3 claims in the multiple years and each have been denied resulting in regular appeals which strike 3, they have been canceled. It has become evident that Choice Home Warranty continually redefines contract language in ways that unfairly limit coverage, rather than honoring the agreement made with customers. Latest specific example is a recent claim for roof repair. Although my contract clearly states that limited roof repairs are covered, the company denied my claim by stating that anything larger than a single shingle is considered a "partial roof replacement" and therefore excluded. This interpretation is unreasonable and no where in the contract states that size does matter. Which was probably something I should have considered when signing a contract. This is not the level of service or protection I was promised when I purchased the warranty. Denying legitimate repairs by stretching or altering contract wording is both misleading and unacceptable. Worse Home Warranty Company. They will find anyway possible not to cover what should be covered!!! Recently I had a A/C problem and was diagnosed for Blow Motor failure. Under Choice Home Warranty contract, damper motor is not covered not the blow motor. However, Choice Home Warranty refused to cover the blow motor as they claimed the blow motor's failure was due to the dirt and debris. I sent technician to check and was told it is due to normal wear and tear. But, Choice Home Warranty refuses to admit the fact and refuse to replace the blow motor. I am a member of Choice Home Warranty. I submitted a claim for leak in my shower from 8 inch shower arm. Water leaks from around the arm only when using the shower. It appears that the shower arm is cracked at the threads due to deterioration over time. This part is original from the initial build in 2006. It was a simple repair that only involved replacing the shower arm and connecting sleeve inside the wall. No water had leaked inside the wall and no other damage was caused. However, Choice sent a plumber to assess the claim who took pictures and sent them to Choice. The claim was denied stating: the shower arm has made contact with and been damaged by the wall resulting in leaks, and is now in need of replacement. Please refer to section E1 of your policy. I paid the service technician $65.00 to take pictures and have the claim denied. I repaired the shower arm myself and it only costs me $46.00 not including the minor repair to the sheetrock. It is a waste of my time and money to deal with Choice Home Warranty. I have had this same exact outcome with most claims submitted. I purchased a 6 year contract in 2021 and paid it in full at start of the contract. I have no plans to renew and I will not advise anyone to bother with Choice because they have a specialized department that works real hard on finding exclusions to deny even the simplest of claims. read more

CHW was responsive with minor claims like broken microwaves or washers, though they rarely repaired anything--just offered partial reimbursements (e.g., $200 for a $500 microwave). Not ideal, but manageable. However, my recent plumbing stoppage claim exposed serious issues. My entire plumbing system was clogged--no working toilets, sinks, or showers. A technician came promptly, diagnosed the issue, and I paid the $65 service fee. Then the delays began. [[HIGHLIGHT]]CHW claimed the repair was "under review." Every 24 hours, I followed up, escalated, and was told to wait another 24 hours. This cycle repeated for days. It became clear they were stalling, hoping I'd give up and hire my own plumber--which I eventually did. The fix cost $500 and was straightforward.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After 5 days of silence on an urgent claim, CHW denied coverage, citing "no direct access" to the cleanout--despite it being in the basement, easily accessible. They are the worst warranty company You can pick. we had 2 situations that they took our $100 for each visit and did not fix the situation nor help the situation. one situation they told my tenant to buy the tools because they did not have it on them and the other situation said they won't fix it. Choice was suppose to get ahold of me on Monday 4/28 with an Update there was No Call. Service Tech called on Wednesday 4/30 said he just go notification an Hour ago. First Tech that was sent out said compressor was bad 4/24. Was told Choice would get a hold of me, no call. Seen via email that my service request was rescheduled 4/25. I called and was told yes it was. Inquired 'Why? was told first Tech was not Certified to work on the System 4/24. Why was he sent? Was given the Option of calling my Own Tech they would check the Refrigerator send a report to Choice. I would have to pay for the repair, then wait up to 30 days for reimbursement if approved. So we went a different route. Maybe Choice will give us a reimbursement for a New Refrigerator. read more

They bill you monthly for their service which I thought was to cover you for out of pocket expenses in your home. Of course you pay a fee every time someone comes to inspect the issue. But here's the rip off. They charge you money for the repair. They tell you it's for for upgrades, but that's a bunch of bull. If I'm being covered against a broken AC or water heater and I pay all this money to be a member, then shouldn't I just be out the initial cost of the visit? That's what I thought. But no, you are basically paying for the unit you are replacing too. It's a huge racket they have going. Example. Our AC coil went out. They condemned the unit and said we had to have both the outside compressor and the coil. Ok, but it should have been at no cost. Instead, we paid thousands out of pocket. Same with a water heater. They made us pay pretty much the cost of the water heater. There's no discussion, no negotiation, nothing. They don't care. Folks it's a rip off. If you're still reading, here's more. Let's say your a/c goes out during the hottest time of the season and you make a claim. It can take 24 hours and even longer to get someone to respond. Then it can take days before someone even comes to look at the unit. Now you have to wait to see if Choice will accept or deny the claim. If they accept it, they put you through h@ll until you fold due to heat and pay what they want. Once you give in, it take days to get the parts and have the installer out. In effect, you will be roughly 2 weeks without air and you're paying for the majority of the cost. I'll say it again, it's a racket. You could have hired a reputable firm, payed more, but had air most likely the next day. Or you can research other companies that actually cover everything. There are such companies out there. You get what you pay for. I'm writing this in hopes I can save at least one person from the mistake we made. This warranty company is certainly called Choice. But it's a BAD CHOICE! read more

This company is a complete scam. I have been a customer since 2024 and paid a couple of Thousands for three year worth of coverage. In the past they will cover small issues when I also had to pay a service fee. But my AC recently broke down and the tech they sent out determined it needs to be replaced. Choice denied my claim on the grounds that the AC was not "properly maintained " . While on the phone with a '"case manager" I told her the unit has been serviced by a tech annually and I have evidence to that. She immediately said it doesn't matter because they have decided the unit was not "properly maintained ". When I demanded to be refunded of my premium they will only prorate and also deduct $300 which is the total amount that they came out of pocket since 2024. read more

When I filed a claim for damaged household items, I found many were not covered despite assurances when I signed up. We have paid expensive out of pocket repair costs despite having Choice insurance Their service and failure to honor coverage promises left me frustrated.
