I was looking for a house two years ago. I really liked working with Marc and Beth. One of the best advice they gave me was to trust how I feel when I walk into a house. They showed me a few house on the Friday after Thanks Giving.. who the heck would do that? My experience with them has been really great. Beth was the Real estate agent I worked with.. she was not very talkative, but super observant about the places and locations I wanted to buy since I was a single female looking to get a place in Highland Park/ New Brunswick/Piscataway. Marc worked with me on my bids. He was very straight forward about how the process worked. If he thought my bid was outrageously low he would let me know we might get refused, but the cool thing was he would still send it to them out. They are run by Marc and his wife, Beth, and they are thoroughly competent while still having the charming feel of a family-run small business. My favorite thing about Marc is that he doesn't whitewash anything - he tells you straight out what he's going to do, and never tries to run circles or trick you. The most honest realtor in town. This post is to warn possible people interested in real estate particularly the rental market. We recently vacated 703 South 1st Avenue in Highland Park, currently listed as a 3 bedroom, which is really a 2 bedroom with a sun porch on Trulia and Zillow. I open with this to create the framework for the types of agents and landlords the Lauranos are. When we looked at the place they promised to build this sun porch, which was our deciding factor as to weather or not to take the property. This arraignment was agreed that once the room was built the rent would stay the same. As my due date rapidly approached the Laurano's made no attempt to let us know that the room was not going to be built. When we finally found out that their intentions were less than honest we asked for a reduction in rent since the agreed upon terms were not met. We were met with defensiveness and aggression at our formal request. In the months that followed the Laurano's would show up to the property at odd times, unannounced. To the point in which I started to keep a log of the dates and times which they would just appear on the property. One of these times was during Memorial Day of 2011. My husband and I were grilling in the backyard when unannounced; Beth Laurano was in our backyard disrupting our quiet enjoyment of the property. Occurrences such as these happened even in the days before we vacated the property, to the point in which I had to let Beth Laurano know that if another strange man showed up un announced to the property I would have to call the police. They were disruptive, to the point in which I unsafe in my home. Once my child was born I was in constant fear that they would show up unannounced at any moment, waking my sleeping newborn or spying through our windows at me nursing my infant. Our frustration climaxed when Marc Laurano asked us to not park in front of the driveway of the house we were renting so he could show up whenever he wished. Finding this request unreasonable since I had to unload my baby and other packages regularly and the street is a public space, we disregarded his request. We were beyond gracious throughout the entire process, even from when we were told the room was not going to be built because their contractor went bankrupt. Incidentally I would now like to see proof if there was even initial plans to build the room. When the appropriate time came, we were presented with a letter to renew our lease from $1550 to $1950 for the 2012-2013 year. Since the trust was completely broken, my husband presented Marc Laurano a letter stating that we will not be renewing our lease. He then threatened my husband by saying, "He better not hear anything about him or his on Main Street" and "that he knows people at Rutgers so he better watch out for watch out for his job." I have filed a formal complaint with the town. read more

I contacted Marc Laurano for the sale of my home and some property after the passing of my husband. I explained my circumstances and I could not have been treated in a more professional and compassionate manor. Mr Laurano was always absolutely honest in his advice to me even when there was no monetary gain for himself. Mr Laurano explained every aspect of the complicated process in a very clear and patient way until I was happily in my rental home. I read some of the other reviews that were written about Mr Laurano and I could not help but wonder if they were speaking of the same agency! The issues in those reviews seemed fabricated compared to my experience. Unfortunately, only two bad review can really detract from an agency's reputation which is why I felt compelled to write my own review stating how pleased I was with their help. read more

I do not usually write reviews but I am so moved to do so after spending a lot of time with Beth Laurano searching for an apartment. Beth has the patience of a saint. She took me around to show me what was available in my price range and according to my needs. An apartment was available that I really fell in love with and Beth not only let me visit multiple times but when I was unsure of my furniture being able to fit in the apartment, Beth actually measured each space for the dimensions of my stuff - We actually spent about 2 hours trying to see if it would work. At the end I decided not to take the apartment and Beth remained completely gracious after spending an inordinate amount of time with me. I would work with her in the future and recommend her without reserve. She is caring as well as knowledgeable and keeps the interest of her client first hand. read more

Marc Laurano and Preferred Properties were thoroughly professional throughout what was a complicated buy/sell contingency process. We had never made a contingency purchase before but Marc was a perfect steward. Although we ran into a few curve balls along the way, Marc gave us the right advice everytime, never losing sight of the goal. He was always reachable if we had any questions and if we had to leave a message, he was always quick to get back to us.
