While training my newly rescued Boxer, I had an incident with him on the leash and was thrown to…read morethe pavement. I went to KOC walk in clinic by UT Medical Center. It was like a barn with standing room only. Mass chaos! The kiosk is right at the entry doors and many patients lack the skills necessary to check in. I was finally seen after more than an hour wait. I had several injuries but they only focused on my wrist??? I landed on my right arm/shoulder/hip/knee/ribs and only the wrist was of interest?? Had an X-ray but too swollen, got an arm brace and a follow up for today. KOC said they "don't do ribs", I believe my elbow is fractured along with my rib(s). I struggle to breathe or get comfortable, and have a weird bump past my elbow that is suspect of bone fragment. Today I go for my follow up. Appt. was at 9:10. I checked in at 9:03 because I completed all my paperwork and paid my co-pay online. I received the "you are checked in for your appt" notice and took a seat. At 10:10, after the lobby cleared and all new patients arrived, I asked when I could expect to be seen. I was told I was "next". At 10:40, when the lobby had almost cleared again, I went back to the desk and said I've been here an 1 1/12 and I am leaving. The worker, not apologetic for my ridiculous wait time; said "I'll let them know" in a very musical tone. LAST TIME AT KOC! I am a retired healthcare admin. This is absolutely the worst lack of respect for patients I've seen in some time. All I expected was for one, of the numerous, employees to say "I apologize for your wait" or something like that, I would have felt a bit more appreciated as a patient. But KOC's model in herding people by the droves and maximizing profits feels greasy and greedy. I agree physicians should have investment in their practice. But this seems to be an unsustainable model. No apologies, no care, so beware! Maybe they are experts, but they severely lack appreciation for their primary source of revenue, patients!! There are also orthopedic experts NOT affiliated with this practice that would truly appreciate you as a patient! Bonus, they can also provide top notch care.

As a long-standing patient at KOC, I have had the privilege of seeing Dr. Ivy, an exceptional hand…read moresurgeon. Regrettably, he retired, and I was referred to a different provider who did not meet my expectations. Several months ago, I scheduled an appointment with the new provider. Everything was proceeding smoothly until I checked in a day before my appointment. To my dismay, I discovered that KOC had switched me back to the provider I had previously expressed dissatisfaction with. Upon contacting KOC, I inquired about the reason for this change. They informed me that I lacked the authority to select my preferred provider. This revelation has shed light on the circumstances leading to Dr. Ivy's retirement. I speculate that it may be attributed to the current operational practices of KOC, which differ significantly from their past methods. KOC's approach to patient care appears to be more dictatorial rather than empowering. By dictating which providers patients can see, KOC may inadvertently impact their health outcomes. Furthermore, the lack of respect shown towards patients' concerns is concerning. I guess I will be flying out of state again to see my doctors. Apparently, they have zero confidence in their patients abilities to make decisions about their own care.
