I had a great experience at Choolaah Indian! The staff are all so friendly and helpful. Alistair helped walk us through the options and made the experience wonderful. I really enjoyed the ability to customize my own bowl. The ingredients are high quality and everything I had was really good! I really enjoyed my bowl as well as mango lassi and the pav bhaji. It's quick and efficient. The atmosphere inside is really nice and clean. Lots of seating as well both inside and outside. They also have lots of vegan options.

Yum! Stopped in here to try some things! I was not disappointed and I left with leftovers! The staff was very friendly and helpful when ordering! Several seating options which is always a plus in the city! The mango lassi and the byob with the butter chicken masala are the stars here! The samasas aren't as stuffed, but they are still yummy! MUST TRY: - mango Lassi drink (Indian yogurt beverage) - butter chicken masala BYOB in this post -Samosas chaat -butter chicken masala bowl with vegetables, ranch, corn, lettuce, picked onion, cabbage slaw, onions - tofu bowl with vegetables, chickpeas, croqettes, corn, picked onion, cabbage slaw, lettuce and a samosa -mango lassi

There were 4 people working in the kitchen on Sunday at 7:30pm in an otherwise empty restaurant and it still took more than 20 minutes to get my to-go order. If I wanted to wait 20+ minutes for food, I would go to a sit down restaurant. I can understand DoorDash orders may have also been in the queue but this was ridiculous, Food was decent, but nothing special.

My kids loved it here and already want to go back. The hand washing station was pretty cool. I loved that there were kids meals so we could all enjoy. I had the samosa chaat and the mini samosas didnt taste super fresh but we still loved it. Also Im a millennial so the serve yourself thing was a bit new for me but once we realized we needed to grab our own ice cream we caught on.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. For being a more fast food place, it was actually quite good . My only complaint is that the menu is a bit weird and it's difficult to get everything that you want in a bowl. For example, I wanted to get paneer, the masala sauce and the roasted veggies, and an employee told me that that wasn't possible because none of the bowls offered that combination. Overall, it was still pretty good and the restaurant had a really nice vibe with nice music playing.

Choolah bowl with half brown rice and greens, ouch hot sauce, tikka masala, spicy mango sauce, and spicy chicken

We stopped by on Monday night around 7pm and it was pretty empty so we were able to order at the kiosk right away and our food came out quickly! I liked how customizable everything is and how affordable it is. My spicy chicken and sauces were actually spicy which I liked! The inside is huge with plenty of seating on the ground floor and second floor. There's also a small patio as well. We sat on the first floor and it was very very cold (it was freezing out so maybe their insulation isn't the greatest) so wear a sweater.

First time around I thought: this is ok, not stellar at all but fine. Second trip was my last. The food was absolutely awful. Not worth what I paid for it. Ambiance was uncomfortable (check out their signage....) Wish I had read through the one-star reviews on Yelp before wasting my money on food from this place. I suggest going to a REAL Indian restaurant for much much MUCH better cuisine. PS -- I don't care at all what Choolah management have to say about my review and neither should you :-)

I loved Choolaah! The food is so flavorful, fresh, and delicious. They have lots of healthy options, vegetarian options, and vegan selections. Everything we tried was tasty! The Chicken perfect balance bowl, the Naan, and the Samosas were my favorite. We did takeout so I can't speak for the ambiance, as I did not go to pick up the food- but my fiance said it's nice. We will be making another visit here again soon!

Choolah is bringing traditional Indian dishes, flavors, and methods to modern day! Custom built tandoori ovens in a fast casual setting? I mean it's absolutely brilliant. Tikka masala, samosa, paneer, lamb meatballs, and even mango lassi. Bowls, salads, wraps, and snacks...the selection is plentiful. The condiments and dipping sauces only add to bright flavors. Have I had better Indian food? Sure. But I absolutely appreciate what Choolah has done here. The staff is super helpful, and the space is bright and modern, borderline futuristic! What a great fun concept to introduce Indian flavors to an area that isn't exactly ripe with Indian cuisine.

    Veggie croquettes (catering)

Great place for catering! I've ordered from here a few times now for my office lunch and have always had a smooth experience. Their online ordering system is super easy & convenient. They coordinate delivery with third-parties like door dash, but it always arrives on time (usually early). One time I even put in the wrong date for my order and the manager helped me correct my mistake at 9am on a Sunday morning (thanks for answering the phone!). Most importantly, folks in my office have always liked the food. The veggie croquettes were a huge hit - semi-fried lentil/pea patties with a nice crisp. Both the paneer and roasted veggie medley (zucchini, cauliflower, sweet potatoes) have great flavor but no sauce. The chana masala and black lentil dal, on the other hand, are of course saucy dishes (also very flavorful) and provide a nice balance to the dry dishes. Rice portions are huge (as are all the other portions) and orders of naan bread come individually wrapped in foil to stay warm. We'll definitely be coming back to Choolaah for more office lunches!

this is a long overdue review for my favorite indian restaurant in the city (and possibly my…read morefavorite restaurant of all). i eat here almost every week, but keep forgetting to leave a rating. time to fix that :) bombay to burgh is an amazing restaurant. it's always delicious, with food that tastes fresh and perfectly balanced. as a fan of indian food, i love how the menu isn't stuck on the classic dishes that you find in every indian restaurant in the US. sure, you'll find butter chicken, tikka masala, palak paneer, naan, and biryani, and they are all very delicious! but there are also dishes like bagara eggplants (described by the menu as "spice stuffed baby eggplants in a roasted peanut, sesame, poppy seeds and coriander gravy, finished with tamarind and coconut") and chicken xacuti (described as "a classic, aromatic chicken curry from the coastal region of Goa, India, known for its complex blend of freshly roasted spices, toasted coconut, and tamarind for a tangy balance"). i ordered both of these tonight and can vouch that they are extremely tasty and worthy of your attention. personally, my only struggle here is that literally every item on the menu looks delicious, and i hate having to choose! which brings me to my favorite part of this restaurant: sunday buffet. now, the food is wonderful every day of the week. i just ordered some tonight myself, so i definitely recommend it. that said, my absolute favorite time to come is for the buffet on sunday. i think buffets get a bad reputation for being all about quantity over quality and for having an unpleasant atmosphere (the passive aggressive "don't waste food" signs that most have don't help, either). sadly, these complaints are true of most buffets. bombay to burgh is a wonderful contrast and, in my opinion, does buffets the way they ought to be. the atmosphere is pleasant (no signs!) and you're likely to see many regular customers. there's a good chance you'll even be greeted by the very owner, G, and get to speak with him a bit! the staff is all very friendly and helpful, always doing their best to make sure you enjoy your visit. they are always happy to help if food needs to be refilled at the buffet or if you want to order anything. finally, and most importantly of all, the food is amazing! unlike most buffets, bombay to burgh only puts out a limited number of offerings: 2 appetizers, 2 meat entrees, 2 vegetarian entrees, 1 bread, 1 rice, 1 dessert, and 1 beverage. i think this is the perfect number to ensure there's both variety and quality. plus, you can actually try a little bit of everything, which usually isn't possible at giant buffets. my favorite part is that every week brings new food, which is now usually themed around a certain region of india. you know they'll always have reliable butter chicken and garlic naan to make you happy, but the rest of the buffet might be dishes you've never eaten before. it's a perfect way to explore different flavors and new food, without worrying you'll waste your money. eating out is a bit pricey anywhere these days, but i personally think that the buffet is still very affordable. have you seen the price of appetizers recently? just the fact that you can choose from two of those with your meal makes it a good deal to me! i feel very fortunate that i get the chance to eat here regularly. while i've loved indian food for over 20 years at this point, bombay to burgh has taken my appreciation to a whole new level and has me researching more food to cook myself. it's a wonderful place to eat!

Last time, I didn't review; every restaurant has an off day. Today, I am so irritated by what I paid for the worst quality food and service that when I left, a couple was coming up the steps and I told them they should go elsewhere. (They did. I hope they landed somewhere great.) First of all, the lunch buffet had so little to offer -- bunches of empty trays full of sauces with nothing in the sauce (butter chicken with no chicken, muttar paneer with no paneer, etc). Dried up tandoori chicken, frozen sweet corn fritters like you'd see at eat n park on a Saturday morning, cold chicken wings, no naan (an Indian buffet without bread??) eventually replaced by dry, unbuttered naan -- these were several of your choices. Barely anything was refreshed. The noodles in both the savory dish and dessert were dried out and crusty. Overall the buffet was truly terrible--sparse, cold, and of poor quality. The cauliflower Manchurian, chili chicken, poori, samosas, nice vegetable curries....all a thing of this buffet's past. (New ownership? It has to be new ownership, right!?) The server never cleared our plates (though we barely filled them), never brought water refills, never asked how everything was. They don't even set the table anymore; grab your silverware and napkins at the buffet. When I went to ring out, three of us cost $60 (I still cannot believe I paid $20 a head for this) and the minimum tip choice I was given on the payment screen was 20%, which is laughable. I'm truly not a complainer; I eat out a lot and I simply don't expect that every experience will be stellar because most aren't, so I almost never review a bad experience because--like I said, even good places have a bad day. But this was bad enough that I hope I've saved you from going there.

The space is very open and a little rough around the edges, but the food is good. One word of note is that we ordered takeout through the web site, and there were no options on the site to pick a specific level of spiciness. The restaurant defaulted everything to mild, and that was fine: everything just could have used a little more flavor intensity. I'll probably just call the restaurant for future orders to head off the spiciness level question. In terms of the specifics, the padpadi chaat was nicely textured and flavored. The veggie curry and aloo gobi were good but wanting for some depth of flavor. The chole (chickpeas and caramelized onions) was extremely good, with lots of flavor. The bread basket was essentially just a stack of naan, not any type of variety. The accompanying rice was nicely prepared with a touch of whole cumin seed to add some character. All told, this was a nice destination with some good food and a nice array of vegetarian options. It was excellent for what it is, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the establishment evolves over time.
