    Buffet Sampler

Fantastic service, extremely welcoming and attentive server. The establishment was extremely clean, comfortable, and the food was absolutely amazing. Fresh warm naan, a delicious variety of dishes to try when ordering the buffet option. Don't skip this place, it's a wonderful destination for Indian cuisine.

I got the all you can eat lunch special for $18, which includes the naan. It is a ton of great food for pretty cheap! I really liked the tandoori chicken (middle on rice), chicken tikka masala (bottom left), and goat curry (bottom middle). Everything was good! The service was really good, and they will quickly bring out additional servings of each item! The inside of the restaurant is also nice.

Really fantastic. Bold flavors with lots of great options on a fairly expansive menu. We ordered takeout, and the ordering experience was extremely easy. Everything was well-packaged, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. This certainly wasn't health food, with a good layer of oil sitting on the top of various dishes, but it was very flavorful with a nice combination of vegetables and textures. The space has the feel of something that might have previously been a bar, but that gives the place an inviting and comfortable vibe. I'm definitely looking forward to heading back in the future to try a few different items from the menu.

    Chicken Biriyani

The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated and the service is good. Our server was very kind and seemed very nice. However, we felt like the food really skimped on meat/quality! We ordered the lamb vindaloo, which had more potatoes than lamb! There were about four small pieces of lamb and the rest was ALL potato. We each ate two cubes of lamb in the ENTIRE entree dish we received. Same with the chicken biriyani we ordered--it had three drumsticks in it that weirdly were mostly just bone. The chicken hadn't fallen off the bone and was elsewhere in the rice either, I'm not really sure where it went or if they purposefully use more bony pieces for the biriyani? It was disappointing because otherwise the flavors of the food were really good. The chicken 65 was our favorite thing we ordered, one of the best I've had. Overall, I would come back to try the lunch special but I wish our food was better quality in terms of actually having meat in it. Otherwise I could've just ordered a vegetarian dish or plain rice. Last thing, I really think they should play music or something in the restaurant for ambiance. It was dead quiet (we were the only ones there for dinner) and we felt like we couldn't really have a conversation with the awkward silence. I would come back to try lunch but was disappointed the dinner wasn't what we expected based on reviews on here! Still glad we tried it out.

An Indian FEAST! Since my trip to India, I have been craving authentic Indian cuisine. This BYOB restaurant hit the spot! Anyone who has heard me talk about Indian food knows that my favorite dish is chilli paneer, and it is surprisingly hard to find that dish here in Pittsburgh! Masala House has it & it is delicious (but definitely heavy on the spice level!). We followed that with lamb koorma, tandoori chicken, & goat vindaloo. All of the food was delicious, and we definitely love a good BYOB! I can't believe I hadn't been here before...I'll definitely be back! Food: A- Drinks: N/A Atmosphere: B Service: B-

For indecisive diners, Masala House makes it easy. They have it narrowed down to two lunch choices: Vegetarian Thali plate Non-Veg Thali plate Five little bowls (refills available upon request) Tandoori chicken leg Generous basmati rice One Galub Jamun (fried donut soaked in honey/sugar and rose water) Limitless naan 5-6 dessert options - I recommend the mango mansari (?)

Really enjoyed this experience. Restaurant week for sit down all you can eat. The concept was a little confusing in terms of how you ordered. Seemed to be a few mains to select from and all the endless options thereafter. Wasn't sure what I could get more of and whatnot. A more clear menu would have helped. The star by all 4 at my table was the fish soup. Server was very nice!

    Tikka Masala
    Rim G.

This restaurant is awesome! I loved the service and the food. The Tikka masala and the samosa chaat were delicious!!! The naan was the best naan I've ever had. Their deserts are tasty as well. I highly recommend. I would be coming back more often, I will keep updating this post and adding more pictures. One issue: their tap water bottles are not clean enough. This happened twice so far. It looks like they don't clean them properly from the inside and you could see the bottle is oily and dirty (see pictures). I really love this restaurant, I hope they fix this issue or I'm gonna be obligated to bring my own mineral water bottles.

I wouldn't say anything in particular was the best ever, but everything was really good, which in itself is just awesome. The paneer tikka was good. Nice a flavorful. The palak chaat was fine - I'd say it was mostly just palak pakoras and didn't really have much of a flavors of a chaat. Proabably this was the only somewhat disappointing item. The paneer lababdar was really good. Asparagus kofta was probably the even better, and then the dal makhani was also good. We ordered naan in a couple of batches and enjoyed it most when they brought it out really fresh out of the tandoor. The bullet naan was really good. Garlic naan was good too. Really nice people and thoroughly enjoyed this Mother's Day feast.

The space is primarily bench like seating so keep that in mind. Service was a tad slow as we waited a bit to place our order and for the food to come out. The menu was varied, which I appreciated. I had granny's chicken, which had good flavor. The spicy naan was mild in my opinion, though others in my party thought it was too much to pair with a 7 spice level. Parking out front is easy. Okay option.

Service was super good. Once we order the food, it comes really quick... they quickly made eight of us sit and took the order.. overall we were in and out, in about an hour.. This restaurant changed hands a few years ago & as regular patrons, we have watched the quality of…read morefood go steadily downhill. Those who may not have a reference point as far as Indian cuisine is concerned may not notice this. To give specific examples from our last foray at the restaurant: 1) Punjabi Kadi is a standard, staple dish in the Punjab region of South Asia. In its current iteration, served in the buffet at Taj Mahal, the "pakoris" (fritters) in the kadi were half-cooked. 2) Goat curry--another North Indian staple was had several cubes of goat similarly half cooked. Or maybe the selection of meat was not good. Either way we ended up trying several pieces & then ultimately leaving them uneaten. 3) Lachcha Paratha was similarly half cooked. There were several parts of the paratha which had raw dough. Indian cuisine is not just about "masala" (mixture of different spices). It is about first selection of right ingredients. It is about adding the right spices. And above all it is about ensuring the marriage of those spices to the ingredients and ensuring every part of the food is adequately cooked. It was quite telling that none of the patrons that for that morning lunch hour were South Asian. Perhaps they have learnt to keep away from the restaurant. The service though, was polite, attentive and respectful. The ambiance that of a casual eatery. It will take a lot of time before it attracts its old clientele back, if ever.
