Drove an hour one way for the all you can eat crab legs on a Friday night. They made less than 1/2 pound of crab legs for the restaurant for the entire time we were there. It's a scam! They advertise all you can eat crab legs at a higher cost and don't cook any to keep you from eating any. They still charge for the crab legs, but we didn't get them. They actually act like they don't speak or understand English when asked when they will serve them. Then turn to each other and talk about us in Chinese. They get a couple stars because It's an okay buffet if you are going for Chinese. Nothing spectacular, just a typical Chinese buffet. It's a total ripoff if you expect the crab legs that we paid extra for. They actually admitted that they bait & switch when I asked them on the way out. It should definitely be illegal!! read more

this place sickens me and is absolutely disgusting. Right in front of the entrance there's a water fountain, a lot of change on the fountain and tell me why I see TWO LIVE RED EAR SLIDER TURTLES?????? If they had the proper maintenance I wouldn't even be writing this. The water is freezing, and here's no UV lights. This sickened me bc I have 2 red ear slider turtles myself. Went there for dinner and it was a couple with a dog. They walked the dog all around where the food was and they even touched the serving utensils. The dog was slobbering on the floor and had a dog smell it was disgusting. I have never seen a dog in the buffet area like this I reported it to management and I left. I will never go back again dogs or any animals should not be allowed around food it's disgusting and unhealthy. It's gotten out of hand people can't even go to a restaurant and eat without being forced to sit around animals. The whole restaurant needs a deep cleaning. We went to eat and I had to run to the restroom soon as I open the door I seen where someone had got sick all in the garage cans and also all on the floor. I went right away and told three workers and one lady walked back there. I thought she was goi g to go clean up. So after we eat I went to try again and all she done was put a few paper towels over the cans to cover it up but it was still all on floor and around the cans.. so I'm sure we want be going back. read more

On June 25, 2025 my daughter took us to Chow King. I asked if we could sit at a certain table and was seated there. It was very warm so my daughter asked if the air could be turned up. With that we became invisible to the servers. Our table was never bussed nor did we receive drink refills. We have been going here once twice a month since we moved to Oxford 3 years ago. Food and service has always been good. On our past few visits, we noticed cleanliness was deteriorating. Television is pretty much the main attraction right now. but no Wi-fi sadly. No music radio either. At least atmosphere is acceptable. Chow King is one of those places in town where you go there and your eat there and no matter how it goes, it's always just okay enough. I find myself going here whenever I'm in town just to reminisce more than to eat and enjoy my lunch. Their food isn't nasty or anything, it's just your typical Chinese buffet food. They do have a small American portion but I've never eaten anything off of it. Honestly- I only get the shrimp, noodles and make myself a salad. I would recommend them because their prices are fair and the service is always good. There's more locals who go here than students so it's always nice and quiet without a big crowd which in Oxford is hard to find. read more

The food is great and always fresh! The prices are kind of high though. When you get a buffet to-go plate. Make sure you don't get even ONE crab leg because it immediately doubles your price per pound. If you're smart with what you get and don't over fill it, that's easy to do with the big plates, you will pay around $16-20 for two plates. All and all the service is nice, but don't expect to be treated like it's the Taj Mahal. If you feel like you deserve to be treated like their royalty at a restaurant then this place is not for you. Chow King delivers on the things I'm looking for when I'm craving chow king, their American Chinese cuisine. If you stop by during lunch hours, then pat yourself on the back because you've just treated yourself to the most cost effective meal in town. Every time I've stopped by, the food was freshly made/being put out, hot, and adequate in sating my takeout fix. If you're going for Chinese, it's gonna be value & quantity over quality, but the food is still good. Great place to eat! The only reason I'm not giving it a full 5 stars is because when we go eat 50% of the time it's amazing, but the other 50% the food has been sitting out since lunch, and they wait for the food to be almost empty before replacing it. I normally have no complaints, but there may be times you go in and it's bland or cold. But over-all, I do recommend this place. Prepare for a HIGH bill for 3 people though. read more

So I paid for the food, which he( our waiter--him and random other waiter who i asked about the price) took my card to the front to pay, which I was already iffy about. He came back and at first i didn't tip because I didn't like how he/they were being rude and not being good waiters!! So me and my friend was about to leave, when i noticed them talking and looking by the little drink booth ... when all of a sudden the lady comes up to the table and says " wheres the tip" which i found very rude but i felt bad and gave him a $3 tip which I normally give all my waiters $5 tips but not TODAY. The total was $42-- fast forward me coming home... i saw they charged my card $47... they charged me $5 extra dollars which really put the icing on the cake!!! I will NEVER BE BACK TO THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN AND I HOPE THEY GET SHUT DOWN!! I tried calling up there 2 times but no response and without my receipt which I threw away in their trash bin, I have NO PROOF!!! There's nothing I like more than an all you can eat Chinese buffet. The few times I've been to Chow King, I've had a good experience each time. There's a little bit of everything at this restaurant. There's so many Chinese options. On the other hand, they've got other options too. Pizza, mashed potatoes, fries, you name it! The food was good, the staff did a great job and checked on us each time, and it's not too bad on your wallet. If you like Chinese food and have an empty stomach, I can recommend this restaurant. The only negative I could give this place is certain foods might have been a little cool a couple times. I mean only a couple of selections were cooled off. I was really wanting some egg drop soup and some good Chinese food last night so we stopped here. It was over $16 per person without tip and the food was less than desirable. My egg drop soup had the paper out of a fortune cookie in it which I found out after I had swallowed most of it. I bit down into an egg roll and all of this grease came out of it and ran all over my hand. The other food was so so but I just felt gross when I left that place. It's a buffet, there is something for everyone. The food is alright, their shrimp is probably my favorite thing, and they have a decent dessert bar. I've had poor experiences where the staff didn't clear the plates or refill drinks and I've had great experiences where the food has been fresh and the table was kept clean. If I'm with a group that can't settle on a place to eat this is one of my first choices just because it's cheap and generally can satisfy everyone I'm with. read more

I visited Chow King on October 16 2015 at approximately 12:15 pm. I was escorted to my seat, then went to the men's room to wash my hands. The hot water in both sinks were both turned off. Inside the men's room I noticed an individual leave the toilet stall without stopping to wash their hands. As I left the men's room I went to the sushi bar. I noticed the sushi chief was the same person who left bathroom without washing their hands. I spoke to waiter who escorted me to my seat. I told him that the sushi chief used the toilet and did not wash his hands when he was in bathroom. I then left the restaurant. If, you like to eat at restaurants where the staff uses the restroom and don't wash their hands and there is no hot water in the restrooms, then this restaurant for you. As for me I will never step foot in Chow King again! read more

Do NOT waste your time or money. Much of the food on the buffet is lukewarm and overcooked at best. The service is HORRIBLE. The "manager" ran to our table suggesting we couldn't afford or didn't know the price of the dinner buffet when one in our party returned to the table with a plate of crab legs. With the lackluster crablegs offering, there was really never a need for him to insult anyone...they could've kept this horrendous food.
