Dr. Chen and his staff are amazing. They are gentle and thorough. He explained why my gums are so sensitive and also debunked a few claims made by other dentists. They didn't make me feel crazy like some have in the past about certain sensitive areas. He doesn't invasively treat or charge without cause. It is easy to make appointments. The front office staff is also very kind and helpful. I'm very thankful to have found this office. It's important to note that this office address is home to 3 different dentists: Dr. Chen, Dr. Sheu, and Dr. Chang. They are not the same "business" they simply share the space. My family and I have been treated by all 3. Dr. Sheu is a wonderful pediatric dentist. I did not like Dr. Chang. read more

Chris Chen is a great guy and he's jumped in to assist with Dr. Jennifer Chang. I've been coming to them for years. Wait maybe I was his patient too. Fun and funny guy to talk to as he's grown up in 626 area and I can relate to him. Jennifer Chang is also a great dentist and she's taken care of me and worked with me to put me on a payment plan. I did a lot of dental work. They are really honest and up front which I appreciate. Today I made my last payment settling my debt. They are only open 2-3 days out of the week which is hard for me to schedule appointments to see them. So no hard feelings as they are great and deserve 5 stars. They will be missed. I never leave reviews, but I've been going to Dr Chen's for a couple years now and he goes above and beyond. A different dentist told me I needed 2 root canals - and I went to Dr Chen for a second opinion (from a neighbors referral) and he basically said 'don't waste your money on root canals, these aren't THAT bad, we can get it fixed up for a fraction fo the fortune you'd spend'. And from that point on, my entire family started going to him. We appreciate his honesty & that he saved my teeth + my wallet. I go every 6-8 months now for a general cleaning. He is always attentive to any pain or concerns I have & really listens to patients, instead of glazing over their concerns and prescribing his own method (like other doctors sometimes do). ALSO - he is just genuinely so kind and personable. Him and Lina his receptionist are so friendly! He remembers things about my life, where I'm going to school, etc and I see him twice a year!! Awesome dentist and awesome staff. Very nice and took the time to listen to what I wanted. I had a crowned front tooth that I hated because it was off color in some lights. I'm a perfectionist and so is he so he sat with me and looked at what I wanted and even listened and made my two front crowns slightly longer as my old crowns were flush with the other teeth. He tried to talk me out of crowning my second front tooth (because its taking from a healthy tooth) but I did it anyway. Love my new crowns, love my new white teeth (his whitening machine is great!) If you are considering to try this dental office, please take a few minute to read my review. I am very upset right now but this does not affect my genuine review about Dr. Jennifer Chang and her receptionist, Julia. I went to the office as a new patient without dental insurance and was recommended to go there by my sister. Her doctor was Dr. Chris Chen. Before I went, I called to make an appointment for wisdom tooth extraction. I was very clear about my situation because I had been to other dental offices but my insurance didn't cover wisdom tooth extraction so I decided to go to the nice dental office my sister mentioned. No matter how I asked the pricing on the phone, Julia wouldn't tell me about the specifics then she told me that if I required a complicated extraction with surgery then they would charge me a consultation fee and schedule another appointment on another day but if it's a simple extraction, the consultation fee will be part of the extraction fee. I confirmed at least twice about this. Julia said YES. Since my sister told me that her doctor was very nice and charge reasonably, I didn't bother to question more about the pricing since the doctors are from the same office then they shouldn't vary too much. However, I was totally naive and wrong about this. Before I went to my appointment, I requested my previous x-ray from my insured dental office and show it to Dr. Cheng. She said the x-ray on my wisdom tooth was not too clear so I need to take one more there. That's fine but she did not mention any fees that will be charged. Later, Julia came up to me and told me that the price was going to be $270! I asked her why it was this expensive, my other doctor only charged $110 for me. She said that couldn't be possible so I asked her how she charged me. She said there was consultation fee and extraction fee. I continuously inquired her about the extraction fee and she finally told me it was $140. I told her that she told me there wouldn't be consultation fee if it was a simple extraction and I was recommended by my sister, who was the patient of the office before! She said she didn't say that there wouldn't be a consultation fee but she would talk to doctor about this. She returned and told me that she didn't know I was recommended by someone (I didn't tell her beforehand but I wrote it on the registration paper for new patient) so doctor agreed to give me a 10% off discount, so the amount came to be "260". Wait, something is wrong here. She continuously made calculation error and I eventually paid $216 with consultation fee lower from 80 to 50 and 10% off. I do not want to mention how random the receipt looked. I told my sister about my horrible experience so she made a phone call to the office again and inquire about a quote for a new patient without insurance. Same Julia said $77 for x-ray, teeth clean, and consultation fee...Seriously? $80 consultation fee for me? I wasn't happy so I called back to discuss about this issue with Julia and Dr. Jennifer and requested for a partial refund. What they told me was not consistent. Fees changed from including x-rays, not including x-rays, no consultation fees, actually examination fees not consultation fees..What I always learned was that only extraction fee should be charged if it was a simple extraction. The main point I wanted to discuss was that they unreasonably charge extra fees that you are not aware of and pretend to be professional so they can reasonably charge you. I talked to doctor, and her words were inconsistent, too. Eventually, she said why she was spending time with me talking about the same thing over and over again while she had patients waiting for her. I hope that Dr. Jennifer Cheng knows that my time is also precious. She earns money from her time but my time discussing with them and writing this review is a waste of my life. Besides, she said they charged me x-ray fee because the x-ray films I brought had no evaluation value. The fact is that on the receipt, the x-ray fee said zero. This again proved that they randomly charge patients and they didn't even remember what they just said. Eventually Dr.Jennifer Cheng admitted there was a mistake on the fees but she said she couldn't do a thing since I paid already. If you have no insurance, please learn the exact price before going and don't pay until you are certain that the price is correct. This was the mistake I made so I hope people don't make the same one as mine. If you have insurance, just go ahead because you don't need to bother how random they charge since it's all on the insurance company. In addition, Dr. Jennifer Cheng also has another dental office called Columbia Dental Group in Santa Monica. Thank you for reading. read more

My previous dentist closed her practice and so I changed over to Dr. Chang and Dr. Chen's practice nearly 2 years ago. It's always nerve wracking changing doctors when you're so accustomed to another. But WOW they were amazing. I don't think I've ever had a more gentle yet thorough cleaning before. Not only do they make you feel at ease when they know no one enjoys sitting in the dental chair but they really get to know you as a person. I really like how clean their office is and how nice all the staff are. I get my teeth cleaned 3x a year and I don't even mind so that tells you how great this place is! read more
