When I scheduled the appointment, I gave the receptionist all my contact information and my insurance info. A few days before my appointment, I get a phone call from a relative who has a similar name as me late in the evening letting me know that this office called my family member asking whether I was willing to change my appointment time. My relative told the receptionist I wasn't there, and the receptionist proceeded to discuss the details of my appointment with my relative. This is a huge breach in confidentiality and extremely unprofessional. I was absolutely furious that this staff member was discussing any details about a potential appointment and examination with a person other than myself. I immediately called the office and told the receptionist that I was shocked and appalled that this occurred. I did not tell her my name, just what had happened. Her immediate response was argumentative, saying that my relative's name and number was in my file. I knew right away this was a lie because I had not set foot in that office yet, I did not give out someone else's contact info to them, and I know that my relative who was called is actually another patient's emergency contact. I understand mistakes are made, but this was a violation of my privacy. If this basic information is given out to the wrong party and mixed up by the staff, what will they do with more detailed medical information? I told the receptionist this was wrong and that she was telling me false information. She adamantly denied this. This violation of confidentiality and trust bothered me so much that I will not become a patient here, and I have sought dental services elsewhere.
