I recently moved to the San Gabriel Valley area(Hacienda Heights)from downtown LA. As I was searching for a new dentist I found the office of James Y. Kim DDS using Yelp. I was very impressed they almost had 5 stars! So I decided to check them out. Gave them a call they answered right away and were able to schedule an initial checkup appointment for me that same week! As I went into the office I noticed it was very clean and even had courtesy water for me. In addition the staff were so welcoming Jasmin checked me in and reassured to me that I was in good hands since I mentioned to her I was terrified of going to the dentists after some bad experiences. In the end I was scheduled to come back for some dental work, I was kinda nervous but the staff were so supportive! I was able to relax throughout the entire process. The doctor was very patient with me and throughout my procedure I was in absolute no pain. I can now safely say I am no longer scared of the dentist! Thanks to the office of James Y. I am very happy that I found this place. Office is very clean and modern. I am terrified of dentists but this office is extremely caring. All the staff are very funny and nice. Dr.Koh is the most gentle and informative person. Every step of the process he would make sure I know what was happening. I have a lot of outdated work on my teeth and he was able to help me fix the issues I was having and also recommend what he thought was best for me. When you first walk in till you walk out great personality. I love how they greet the doctor when he first walks with a big GOOD MORNING. Customer service excellent. Everyone is very nice. Great customer service and very friendly. They answered all my questions and when I got there almost thirty minutes early they had no problem seeing me sooner. The staff put on Netflix movies for you to watch while you wait in exam room. Although the office is small it's very clean. read more

The people that work at this facility lack a lot of social skills. As soon as you walk in the door the people don't even greet you. My appointment for my fills was so awkward since I had to wait an extra hour for the actual procedure to start. Several workers walked in and out while I waited but I got no explanation for what was taking so long and no greetings either. The guy walked in and it took him a couple minutes to even acknowledge that I was there. He doesn't explain anything about the procedure or whether I can eat after. Like I said, lack of social skills. During my procedure they had to give me anesthesia. Now, I have a small mouth and I have a hard time opening wide. The lady assisting the dentist pressed her thumb hard on my chin. Very forceful and rude. Dr. Kim also cut my lip several time, didn't even apologize. He was also struggling to get the filler in. This has been my Dentist since I was in High School. The staff is extremely welcoming and makes you feel right at home. I am somewhat Denta-phobic, but Dr. Koh and his staff provide very detailed explanations about procedures, and during them, and so are very good and calming your nerves. I've been introduced to Dr. Kim through my parents and Dr. Kim has been my primary dentist for I think 3+ years! I used to be afraid of the dentist when it comes to getting the anesthesia shot when I'm fixing my cavities, crowning, etc. However, compared to other dentists I've been to, Dr. Kim really makes sure that I don't feel the pain when it comes to getting the anesthesia shot. Once the numbness kicks in, I pretty much don't feel much pain during the procedure. And I love the ladies, Sonia and Jasmin, for always making sure that I make it onto my appointment and always greeting me with a smile whenever I come in for my appointment. This dentist office is awesome. Staff are latinas, easy to get along with, friendly, and very accommodating. Dr. Kim is very patient and takes his time explaining the procedures, and he takes pics afterwards to show you his work. This guy is slow, incompetent, and doesn't have good social skills. He made me come back way more times than he promised he would get my dental work done, I lived over 100 miles away so that didn't make me happy and I would have never went to him had he not been recommended by a friend and discount my services. He promised to get my dental work done in 3 visits, I ended up having to come back to him a whopping 8 times in a month span, when he promised a week. After every visit he should have let me know crucial things like when I can eat again, but he said nothing and just walks off like some mute. A few times he didn't give me any or enough Novocain and it hurt like hell, I was crying at times. I ran into another one of his patients and he complained about the lack of Novocain as well and said his teeth were still hurting after a few years. I complained heavily to his receptionist about everything when she asked me for my check but it was like she zoned me out cause she didn't want to hear the negative comments, she just practically said "oh good I'm glad to hear you're having a good day." I was like what the hell? I hate to do this to him cause he did discount my service but there is no excuse for his actions. I will never come back needless to say. read more

I used to hate going to the dentist. I spent 10 years avoiding dentists after I was told my wisdom teeth would have to be removed. My first day coming here, I was greeted by warm and friendly staff members, and once it came time for my xrays to be done, the dental hygienist on duty (I forgot her name...nice lady) made me feel relaxed by actually taking the time to explain what she was about to do and why. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that. The dentist seemed to be very intuitive as well and made sure I was comfortable. I got porcelain fillings and Dr. Kim made my molars look brand new. I brought my daughter here and I plan to come back for future procedures. I also recommended to family members and colleagues. If you're anxious about dental work like me consider coming to Dr. Kim. My family and I have been patients at Dr. Kim's office for over a decade now. I was never necessarily excited for my dentist appointments, however I always walk out of Dr. Kim's office with a sense of relief and appreciation. Dr. Kim and his team ALWAYS aim to ensure their patients literally walk out with a smile. For as long as I can remember they have always been so patient with every process I had to undergo for my teeth. I just had braces put on about a year ago and I have never seen a process more consistent and perfect. Not only are they consistent with their work, but they actually care how we are feeling throughout the process. I can always expect to walk in Dr Kim's office and be greeted with a smile by Sonia. Sonia is one of the sweetest and most professional individuals I have met. I work in a customer service field and Sonia is exceptional in what she does. Sonia can greet every single person that walks through the door, answer the phone, and also set up patients for Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim is unbelievable at what he does. He provided me with plenty of options regarding a jaw replacement procedure and I am the happiest and most confident with the procedures we ended up deciding on. Ive never felt so confident with my smile EVER. I thank Dr. Kim and his team for ALWAYS providing my family and I with the best care and professionalism. I have never considered looking elsewhere for dental care but I do suggest others receiving dental care elsewhere to look into Dr. Kim's office.
