I think when you are a single female and no also older, you are pretty much perfect for being taken advantage of. Finally, I don't think I will be paying for things that don't need to be done. Being a lifelong "tomboy", I like doing different things on my car. That said, having knowledge and experience in what I am doing is likely a low bar. I probably know enough to be dangerous. There was no reason for them to open and dig around in my glove box and console. They threw my personal items all over my vehicle, onto the floor, into the back seat. I asked if they were sure, since I had gotten a higher quote elsewhere. Yes. He said bring it in (the next day) and we will have it done by noon. We brought it there the night before (20 mile drive total). They called the next day at 10 am. He said well we won't have it done by noon but I think I can get the parts by tomorrow. He said that the vehicle is bigger than we thought and needs a different kind of brakes than we thought. I said well can you get back to me on the pricing? He said ok and called back with a quote for over $1200. I told him that wouldn't work for us and we will come back and pick it up. Ford shop had already told us that quote without looking at it. My husband went to pick up the van. When he got there he was told there was a $25 charge for looking at the vehicle. At this point they had made an assumption, didn't clarify, and therefore quoted brake repair on the wrong vehicle, and now were asking us to pay for that mistake. When my husband started to explain the confusion to the guy behind the counter a second guy came up and started arguing. He interrupted my husband and said that any time you have a shop look at your vehicle you're going to get charged. My husband told him nobody asked them to look at the vehicle. We already knew what was wrong with it. When he started to explain again why this was their mistake (didn't confirm vehicle type even when asked if they were sure) the new guy kept interrupting. My husband said that the $25 isn't much money, but it's the principal of the matter. We didn't need a diagnosis, and wouldn't have wasted our time if they hadn't given us a bad quote to begin with. He was never able to say it though because they guy kept interrupting and being belligerent. The last comment from the guy behind the counter was "If the $25 is that big of a deal then don't pay it, but don't ever come back here again". So we won't. They had three chances to give good customer service: 1. Ask enough questions to know what kind of vehicle they were quoting work on. 2. As soon as they realized they had not done the first, call and confirm we still want work done BEFORE putting the vehicle on the lift. 3. Listen to the customer say these two things before arguing with them. They never listened that long before interrupting. If the work you need them to do is standard you may not have an issue, but if you run into anything out of the ordinary they won't admit fault or try to understand you. They have no clue what customer service means, and therefore it's a good chance you'll regret doing business with them.

I have a 17 yr old vehicle thats rear left brake caliper was sticking. Upon further inspection, the…read morerear left brake pad had worn down to the metal because of the sticking caliper. So I brought it here to get repaired. The good: They do an inspection with photos and put it online for you to see. The service writer was patient and helpful in figuring out what work to get done and was upfront about costs. They offer free loaner cars, which I did not use. The are ASE certified mechanics. The bad: The original inspection addressed everything else they wanted to replace and did not address what caused the sticking caliper - the reason I was there. They did go back and look at it though once I asked, and said the pins probably rusted. They wanted to replace a strut, front brakes and rear brakes, secure a heat shield better, degrease the engine to pinpoint a leak, and do an oil change. It's good to know about that stuff but the rear left brake was the pressing issue. Was originally quoted $1,175 to replace just the rear brakes: new calipers, new rotors, new pads on both the rear left and rear right (but not the front.) The car is only worth $1500, it's a Scion/Toyota not a Mercedes or BMW and it's old. I had been quoted $850 to do all that somewhere else with 3 yr warranty, new parts etc. So I asked what's the minimum they could do to get all 4 brakes working and they said they could replace just the rear left caliper and rear left brake pads for $450. The brake pads come in sets for both rear wheels but the mechanic wouldn't put the rear pads on the right side because he wouldn't work with the rear right caliper - it's too old and rusty, might break (though I would've taken that risk.) He would want to replace it instead. Well if I replaced every old rusty part of my car that still works I'd have a new car, and they charge $300+ to put a new caliper in. And they don't machine resurface rotors even if they're thick enough to. They said they want to warranty the rotors for 3 years instead. Well my car might not last another 3 years. So I chose the $450 option. When I picked it up they gave me the breakdown of the work: $192 for a remanufactured caliper sold at NAPA a few blocks away from the shop for less than $100. $50 for brake pads sold at NAPA for $25. $178 for the labor to install a new caliper and pads on just the rear left wheel. The brakes vibrate because they don't resurface rotors. They gave me the extra set of brake pads that came in the box they wouldn't put on the right side without replacing the caliper. I see a lot of good reviews here but nobody is saying what they paid. And they don't want to work with old rusty parts, just replace them all. Maybe that's typical, but 4 or 5 stars would be going above typical. And the shop is only open until 5pm. It took a week to get me in. All that said, this isn't a negative review. I'm just saying this may be a small, honest family owned shop in Corcoran with just a few mechanics and service people, but it isn't a thrifty one. Far from it. But I do now know all the work my car needs done in the near future and how to tackle it with a more thrifty shop and a probably a parts dealer/service locator like Tirerack.
