When in doubt ... look to Yelp! I was looking for a company to come out for some framing work to accommodate larger kitchen windows. Due to the pandemic, the number of companies coming out for estimates were few and far between. Although I was thankful for the ones that did come out and provided estimates, I was extremely thankful for meeting Jim (owner). After sending a few pics via MMS and a few phone calls later, it was apparent that I was setting myself up for potential issues down the road. The other companies that came out and provided estimates did exactly that - provide an estimate. Apparently, my wish for larger windows meant cutting into a shear wall of a 2-story house. What was I thinking? Jim had the patience and kindness to explain exactly what I was getting myself into. To satisfy my curiosity even more, he put me in touch with his engineer to share ideas and come up with a Plan B. After speaking to his engineer, we decided on not-so-large windows. Jim even gave me the number to his windows supplier, which ended up manufacturing my custom size windows in less than a week! Jim came by the house a few days earlier to go over the game plan. He showed me where he was going to support the ceiling, make the cuts through the stucco, and even re-route the electrical outlets and switches. On game day, he showed up with his son bright and early. Like clockwork they set up, shored up the ceiling, cut the rough opening, built a brand new header, re-routed electrical and even installed a few sister studs next to some wood rotted studs on a different wall. All in all, they were in and out in less than a full day. Jim and his son work very well together. They are both methodical and pay attention to details. Last summer, my husband and I decided to do some remodeling. We weren't sure where to begin, but we began to call contractors and start getting estimates. My husband saw another project going on near our home and went to speak to the homeowner. She recommended her contractor, Jim and Jay [Jeremiah] of Christian Construction. One of my biggest concerns was having the work done correctly and having it completed in the way I wanted and I definitely got this with Christian Construction. Eventually we settled on starting with a complete gutting and remodel of the kitchen and bar area in the family room, as well as widening and lengthening a short set of stairs to the family room. I did not know where to start in changing the kitchen--Jim is extremely creative and was able to help me to see how we could improve the layout which I love! He helped me to prioritize the decisions that needed to be made and made suggestions as to what to look for. When it came time to do the gutting, he and Jay were very cognizant of the fact that we had to live here while this was all going on. They made it a point to make sure that I had at least one sink at all times, even though it probably would have been easier for them to do it all at once. Jim and Jay's work ethic is serious!! There was not a single day during the work that either were late--if they say they will be there at a time--they are. Communication is clearly important to them and even if we had already talked about a decision, Jim would text/email me to make sure we were on the same page. There were times that I am sure I tried their patience as I worked though some of the changes, but they were professional all the way and answered every question I had. They also were extremely tidy--leaving my home as neat and clean as possible during the remodel, which I truly appreciated. As our kitchen, bar area, and stairs neared completion, we realized we needed more done by this great team. We ended up having them raise our entry to level it out to the dining room, gut our downstairs bathroom, redo the laundry room, install crown molding, replace all the doors, including the front doors, which required a raising of the front steps. Jim and Jay have so much knowledge between them and work so well together. Jay's painting is artistry! He painted all the kitchen cabinets, bar area, bathroom, laundry rooms, interior and front doors. I don't know how, but he fills all holes, matches all textures, and leaves everything looking brand new. I've been wanting to replace the doors in the hallway for years. They were the original doors from the 50's! I saw a positive review on my neighborhood email for them so I contacted them. Jim came out the next and started work within 2 days. It took 4 days to replace 5 doors, which included paint and haul the old ones away. When we realized we were going to need to hire a contractor, we were pretty nervous. The experience of most of our friends was that contractors were notoriously poor communicators and rarely followed through on their jobs in a timely manner. The irregular communication with the few that came out to give quotes confirmed our preconceived notion. Not wanting to settle, we kept looking and found Jim. We were a little concerned by the fact that he did not have a ton of reviews but thought we would give him a try. From the first contact, he was awesome. First, he rearranged his schedule so he could come out and do an initial assessment. He was the only one who diagnosed our actual problem and was not just offering a patch solution. He told us he would get us a quote within the next two days and followed through. The price was right about what we expected for good, fair work. We knew that contractors were especially busy in this season and Jim was no different. The only way he would be able to do the job for us was if he could do the work the week after Thanksgiving. Due to our travels, we were only able to offer him 4 days instead of the 5 he had planned, but he said that he would make it work, no problem. The day the work was supposed to begin, Jim and his son showed up exactly on time. It was the same each day with lots of communication via text and face to face at our home. We were kept aware of progress the whole time. On top of that, Jim made some suggestions that improved the look of our house on the outside that were very reasonable financially (since the work was already being done) and made a big difference. Throughout this entire experience Jim was the opposite of our preconceived notion: always on time, great communicator, great work, absolute pleasure to work with. And he also made sure to follow up a few days after he finished the job to make sure that we were satisfied. This is our beautiful family room. I came to know Jim and Jay by going on a search to find a really great contractor to construct our entertainment wall. I contacted 4 contractors with high rating and good reviews. I got 3 estimates and Jim was the last person on my list. His company made #4. Prior to all the contractors coming we had removed all the previous wood paneling (as you can see in the first picture). We removed everything down to studs because we were having the room rewired. I showed all the contractors a picture of a entertainment wall I liked and gave them some personal modifications ideas of my own. All of them gave me an estimate on how much they would charge. Jim however said "ma'am this is a beautiful picture but before you do that there is a lot of things that need to be done in this room with the framing as he pointed out one thing after another. He said "I'm not trying to disrespect whoever did this original work but there are a lot of things wrong and not up to code. These things need to be corrected before the city sees this room. They might pass the wiring but they won't overlook the framing. These things must to brought up to code." My family and I were devastated. We already had to invest so much money do to the wiring because it was faulty. Now we have to deal with correcting the framing . Jim said I would hate to see you run into that problem. None of the other contractors even mentioned what was professionally obvious to a skilled constructor's eye. They just didn't bother to say anything. Jim said he would sketch out an entertainment wall for me no problem but he highly suggested that we get this framing corrected no matter if we choose him or another company to do it. So of course after his thorough review of our situation we went with him because of his amazing reviews, high ratings, many years of experience in the business and his truthfulness. Jim designed my entertainment wall, installed the TV & the fireplace and they did all of the drywall. Jay is a Master Drywall Specialist. The company's prices were fair and their work is excellent. They are very timely, there were no hidden costs, they clean up behind themselves, they are just great man with integrity and amazing customer service. Contacted Jim on Feb 9th to see if he could give an estimate for 1 bathroom remodel, possibly 2. He wanted pics sent to his email, also address and said he would set up an appointment. I sent the information. I had explained that the one that needed remodeling, had a leaky spout/tub, so we had determined with the cost of fixing that, we would just remodel it instead. He seemed more interested in why the plumber couldn't fix it, I guess assuming there was an issue that he didn't want to deal with? Not sure, as it was us that decided not to put an additional cost to fix something that really just was outdated and needing a remodel anyway. I felt he was a bit of a bully, telling me how and when I should communicate with him. I simply wanted someone to actually come to the house and determine if an issue was there or if not give me the estimate that I asked for. He put me off until Feb 19th, which would be the next available time. Fine, I had no issue waiting as I know all the contractors are really busy right now. He never responded back, didn't set up time and ghosted me. Waste of time and effort on my part. We have since had 2 bathrooms fully remodeled,at a good cost, his loss. We would not recommend. When we need something done in the house, we always call Jim, he knows how to fix anything. About 12 years ago, they remodeled our kitchen-family room, and 3 bathrooms. We were very happy with the results, Jim has good ideas, and his suggestions made sense. A few years later, they redid the patio, and it looks great. Just this month, we had water on the floor of the leaving room, and Jim found the water was soaking up the walls. That had to be fix at once because the worry of having mold. The problem turned out to be the rain water (we had lots of rain this winter), that was collecting in the corner of the house, plus a planter box was adding to the problem. They put a "french pipe" to divert the water around and down the side of the house to the garden area, so that won't happen again. Jay worked on the walls inside, put new insulation, plaster, and finished by painting the whole wall, so it looks like new. A job well done, and fast. Their work ethic is like no other that l know. Let me start by saying, I don't know why there aren't more 5 star reviews for Christian Construction Company. Based on the existing reviews, I contacted Jim (owner) through YELP and I heard back the same day. Removing a window seat in a bedroom was the primary reason I called, and Jim assessed the project and provided a quote. Jim and I also arranged for the bedroom to be painted after removal. First, it's like the window seat (original to the house) was never even there. The removal, drywall repair, and painting is absolutely some of the cleanest work I've ever had done in my home. Jim knows his stuff, is honest and upfront, and his pricing is more than fair. As the work was being completed, I mentioned a couple of other projects that we planned to do (new carpet, and new closet doors in all bedrooms,) and Jim put me in touch with a local carpet business here in La Verne (which was also a great experience), and he personally handled the ordering of our new closets and will be installing them in a week. Jim works with his son Jay, who worked right alongside Jim doing the removal, patching, drywall, and he handled all of the painting, and Jay's attention to detail was as impressive as his work. It has been just over a year since the remodel was complete. We have found several electrical problems. We called in an electrician who discovered some very shoddy work. Electrical plugs were not up to code, several light switches stopped working, recessed lighting fixtures were attached to the ceiling making it impossible to access. We have had to hire an electrician to come out to redo the electrical that we paid Mr. Florez to do which is costing quite a bit. Mr Florez re tiled three showers and now the grout is cracking and crumbling in many areas. We hired him to repaint a staircase and several inside doors. He failed to properly prepare the wood causing the paint to literally peel off the wood. The hot water fixtures in one of the showers and our laundry room were installed backwards. The handheld shower head in the shower was installed at the top of the shower wall so no one could reach. Mr Florez' painter literally destroyed new $30,000 cabinets by touching up the spray painted finish with a paint brush, leaving the paint streaked and uneven. His overall work is very sloppy leaving paint on tile and ceramic floors. I do not recommend doing business with this company. We are having to call upon other contractors to redo what we already overpaid Mr Florez to do. The costs are adding up. We feel like he took advantage of us, overcharging for poor quality work, not to mention the code violations. Very disappointed. read more
