The long version: We were remodeling our entire house at once, and needed help in limiting our choices for wall/ceiling colors, tile and flooring. Nicole was great to work with! After telling her about our vision for the house, showing her our existing furniture and accessories, and telling her the colors we liked, Nicole helped us come up with a coherent color scheme that makes our house the showplace we wanted. For us, the hardest part of the remodel was selecting the tile for 7 different places in the house. We told Nicole where we wanted to splurge, and where we wanted to save money. She was able to give us several options for every selection, and we love the results. Check out the photos I've posted for some examples. In the end, Nicole was able to flex to our pseudo-do-it-yourself style and give us everything we wanted. Also, when marble for our bathroom arrived damaged from a warehouse on the east coast, Nicole was right there making sure that it was resolved immediately so that our project wasn't delayed. Carolyn SAVED my project! She spent about one year working on a 2 unit building renovation project…read more Without Carolyn my project could have dragged even longer. I had a horrible contractor (unfortunately, i found out too late and just had to finish the project with him). Thankfully, Carolyn dealt with him (very professionally and not rocking the boat to just get my project done) and pretty much saved my project from being missed managed by the contractor. Carolyn went above and beyond as a designer. Not only does she have an excellent design instinct but she pretty much managed the project and did not drop the ball or miss any details of my project. And most of all Carolyn managed my "wallet" with integrity and honesty. Carolyn was very realistic in terms of what we wanted and the overall cost. She communicated everything very clearly and would tell me everything that is coming down the pipeline in terms of all the purchases that were made on my credit card. She very careful when handling the money, because she returned everything that was over ordered (like tiles). She also followed up with vendors to make sure I was credited for the return (lighting). One place ( West Elm) gave me a store credit (which I would not use) of a ridiculous amount for lights and she keep calling for the return to be credited to my cc account instead. She keep track of all of the spending/ purchases and returns. She spent a lot of time at the project site making sure the finishes were installed properly and aesthetically pleasing. Carolyn is one of the VERY VERY few people I know that truly looks after my (as the client) best interest. I also believed that she probably protected me from all the crap the contractor tried pull on the project. She was involved in almost all aspect of the remodeling project. The showroom is a big loft and they have several kitchen styles set up which gives you a good idea of what you can do with your house. And the designers are really knowledgeable and personable. So, I haven't yet done any remodelling myself as I'm still saving up $$ for all my projects, but I am doing my research now as I like to be prepared and well-informed before I embark on such a major project. They have really good reviews listed on Yahoo so I am pretty sure these guys are going to be designing my new kitchen and bathrooms. Oh yeah, make sure to look at their photo album when you get there because they have more pictures of different types of projects than is on their website. My favorite is the Mosswood project.

So, I don't give out five star reviews to anyone. I also saw a lot of reviews here from one- or…read moretwo-review people and wondered if they were all real. But I figured it couldn't hurt to go over and scope out the showroom on my own, because I usually have pretty good radar for whether someone is full of it or not. After talking to Marina for about fifteen minutes I decided I wanted to have these guys do my kitchen counters. In the first meeting (total cold-call walk in) I paid a lot of attention to the questions she was asking me and the information she was giving me, because in my book unprompted detail tells me a lot about how detail-oriented someone is. She told me all about stainless steel sink gauge *without me having to ask* -- which told me I could stop worrying about having to understand all the details on my own and just let her make recommendations. I gave her my measurements of the kitchen and she had the quartz guys put together a quote for it. The quote was *under* the estimate I got from another company in San Carlos last year. What's more, it also included tear-out and plywood leveling, which the other company had pretty much brushed off as "well, that's your problem, we don't do that." So I said, what the heck, let's do this. Tile counters came out on a Friday; quartz counters were installed two weeks later. No delays, no snags. Kitchen Galleries also didn't give me trouble about "only" wanting to do my counters, unlike a couple of other places (et tu, Home Depot) who wanted me to rip out the whole kitchen because leveling existing cabinets is too hard. Sure, I'd do the whole thing if I had 40 grand, but the cabinets are only 15 years old and in good shape, it's just that revolting white tile and mildewed grout I wanted to get rid of. (And as it turned out, my plywood was in good enough shape AND level, so they didn't have to replace it and knocked it off the price!) KG also recommended a plumber to help me disconnect and reconnect the sink and various appliances (no DIY'er I). That was as close as it got to "hidden" costs in the remodel, well, aside from me deciding I was under budget and thus totally deserved a new dishwasher and a sexy stainless steel faucet, air gap and soap dispenser. Ahem. The only hiccup in the whole process was Marina switched computers and for awhile I wasn't getting any emails from her even though her computer swore it was sending them. That kinda sucked. Other than that, all communications were extremely prompt and I never had to chase her down for something. And anyway, I totally prefer emails to phone tag -- she'd often reply within the hour, too. Anyway, I am very pleased with this remodel, and like I said, I never hand out five-star reviews. Check 'em out. Sure, you could wear yourself out researching stone guys and plumbers and installers and demolition crews and haulaway services, or you can just go with good people who know good people, and I'm definitely in the latter camp. And I didn't even do anything requiring bigtime design skills! The showroom is a bit stealth -- expect to pass it by once, the sign is really hard to see in the second floor windows.
