This review is both long overdue and, just as importantly, incredibly well-deserved. Like a lot of people, I turned to Yelp and Google searches to help me drill down the options for a professional home organizational consultant. That's how I came across Christine. And, I'm so glad I did. Prior to hiring and working with Christine, I had already worked with three other home organizers--all of whom had their own styles and approaches. I enjoyed working with all of them. But, then, a couple of months ago, I decided I needed some more help organizing my new space and I found Christine. As someone who has worked with more than a few organizers, I immediately found Christine to be different--refreshing even--in her approach. If I could sum up that one difference for me, it would be execution-oriented. Instead of sitting around and planning and discussing how our strategy would be, Christine would, quite literally, take some time for herself, survey the space and then come up with an action plan for our time together. She is, more than anything, all about getting it done and getting it done efficiently. Christine and I worked together for just over five hours over the course of one afternoon and I was so pleasantly surprised at both the pace and the results of our block of time working together as I have hired organizers in the past who have come by for 10+ hours at a time with less tangible and noticeable results. As someone who enjoys and sees the value in working with home org consultants, as far as I am concerned, Christine's efficiency and eye for problem-solving is a step above the rest as she has helped me achieve more in a five+ hour session that I've had in combined sessions three times that long. I was a bachelor living like an overgrown college student when I met Christine about 16 years ago. She had the guts to be honest enough to tell me that I was living like a slob as a single professional guy (a lawyer with no dates!), and that I deserved better. How could I bring a date home when I used a bed sheet for living room curtains that hung on paper clips? She came up with the novel idea of throwing an "Apartment Rearrangement Party" where I provided free pizza and beer in exchange for labor from close friends. In all, 14 people showed up to my place one Saturday evening, and for the next two hours, she directed what furniture should be moved where. Before we knew it, all the furniture was rearranged, none of it was thrown away (although looking back, that's really what I should have done!), and my apartment was suddenly comfortable in ways I could not have imagined! It was like an episode out of Queer Eye before that TV show even existed! The following year, when I purchased my first home and needed to hire an interior designer to revamp the place, I insisted that Christine come with me to look at a model home of a designer I was seriously considering. Immediately after we left, she refused to let me hire him and steered me to my second choice designer who had the right balance between simple, cost-effective and tasteful. Not only did she prevent me from making a huge mistake, but she also saved me a ton of money! She also helped me to review the layout plans before the work began and gave me helpful suggestions to give it just the right touch. Today, I don't make any home design decisions without Christine's input (notwithstanding the fact that I'm now on assignment in Shanghai--she's just a Skype call away!). Christine has a natural knack for rearranging rooms and furnishings to maximize the flow, comfort, aesthetics, and efficiency. She uses what is already there and doesn't require spending insane amounts of money. She is fun to be around and kind hearted, and yet she knows how to guide the process and keep things on track. She loves what she does, and it's infectious when she shows up to the house with her "Let's do this!" attitude, which other people have also mentioned in their reviews. Most of all, she doesn't push you to let go of your "stuff" if you're not ready (That's me!). Instead, she will figure out where best to put everything based on the layout of your home, the available storage space, and how frequent (or not) they need to be accessed. My husband and I had been struggling for a way to find more space in our condo for our growing family, but we were unsure of our seemingly crazy thought to turn our closet into a mini bedroom for our son. This review has taken me a few months to get around to writing, but I was determined to give Christine the review she deserves to get! My five year old daughters room was completely dysfunctional and I had tried so many different scenarios, I was beginning to feel hopeless about the room. We live in a small 2BR apartment in SF. When we hired Christine we were expecting our first baby in a couple of months. We were using the master bedroom as our bedroom and the smaller bedroom as a guest room/office. We had no idea how to organize our rooms, nor did we have an idea on which bedroom should be used by whom when the baby arrives. Christine came in and make two key strategy recommendations: - convert the master bedroom into a combination baby sleep and play room, and move the parents to the smaller bedroom away from the noise of the baby room and the living room. - rearrange the living room to partition it into a smaller living room on one side and an office area on the other side. These two recommendations allowed us to grow from baby and parents sleeping in the same room the first 6 months of the baby's life (recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics), to baby having his own room for play/sleep/stuff and parents getting peace and quiet in the smaller bedroom. The baby is now 11 months old and we couldn't be happier. Apart from the strategic thinking, Christine also enjoys "getting her hands dirty." She won't just give recommendations and leave you to do the moving work. She'll actually lead the charge to take stuff out of storage areas, put items in donation piles, and then rearrange storage to hold things in a more sensible manner. When we moved into the house, we were expecting a baby, my husband was starting a new job, and we had two elementary school-age children starting at a new school. A lot of our kitchen items were shoved into the nearest drawer or shelf with minimal thought to how we'd use it.
