We had a good time, and the local folks were very friendly. My husband bought a large slice of huckleberry pie with homemade huckleberry ice cream. It was delicious! Another booth was selling huckleberry jam, and I inquired if they had sugar-free jam, and the lady checked, and handed me two jars that are fruit sweetened. I bought both of them & brought them home to Oklahoma to enjoy. As the label suggests, "An exceptional treat , the best berries in the world from the Pacific Northwest". Bingen is a small town, but they put on a fun festival. If there was more products featuring or made from huckleberries, I'm sure they would sell well, especially sugar-free items. I bought the last t-shirt available, and it is so cute, I have worn it several times. Enjoyed this festival!!

This was my first time at this event and I really didn't know what to expect…read more Upon arrival I could see that it was a street vendor event, however, what I didnt' anticipate was the vast number of vendors that were there and the number of streets that were blocked off for the event. It started to rain shortly after I arrived but the rain only lasted about 15 minutes so the "party" kept rolling and I got a free Alaskan Airlines umbrella in the interim. Although I was tempted to purchase a cutting board with a swanky etching, I only ended up buying a hot dog from Dawg Eat Dogs. It was good and I probably should have had two. Well, I did also get a nitro cold brew coffee. They had a few classic cars out there and a stage. I did spend some time gawking over the 66s and 67s - good cars that they don't make anymore. I didn't get to hear or see any performances on the stage but I'm sure that they had something at some point during the Festival. Overall not bad, it was an okay way to spend a dreary day outside without getting too soaked.

Surprising number of multi-level-marketing shills here (bleh!!), including Pure Romance...I thought this was a family event!! Many business here to choose from, some of which are actually local. 2 stages for live entertainment, a little classic car show, and a good number of food trucks so you can get the feelings of going to the fair. Came by on a Saturday with a girlfriend during their 5th Annual Lavender Celebration, which had…read morelocal craft booths. It was a nice and small event and easy to find and get to. Great parking on a field next to the farm. All the staff have been wonderful and friendly. One even went the extra mile to explain the varieties of lavender and what we need to do and how to cut the lavender. We appreciated the explanation and information. We grabbed a white basket, which had lengthy white twist ties and a scissor. You cut between the 2nd and 3rd leaves. There are numerous bees everywhere and you can hear them buzzing about but they pretty much leave you alone. It was a rather warm day and beautiful. Perfect for picking lavender. It's $5 for a bunch that you can fit within the twist tie, which is a rather large bunch. I picked two types of lavender -- an edible variety and one that s used more for its oils and is more aromatic. There is also a lavender-colored Adirondack chair in the middle of the field for photo opportunities. We ended up purchasing kettle corn with lavender, which is oddly delicious and I had a fresh squeezed lavender lemonade. I loved it! There were numerous handcrafted items to purchase from varying booths. I purchased some emu oil, some bowl pads, and a tank top. I ended up picking up a 2.5 lb large bag of lavender buds to put into satchels and place around the house. I ended up giving half of it to my next door neighbor and gave them half of the lavender I picked. The lavender I picked was also cutely wrapped in tissue with a cute tie. When I had gotten home, I made a simple syrup with the lavender and have used it in drinks and to make scones with. Overall, this was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend.

I bought the Lavender Tea Tree large size of each. They also have Lavender; bar soap, body butter, bath salts, body oil, and dog products! I know I am forgetting some, sorry! The fields go on forever and you may stroll along with you barrowed basket and scissors merrily clipping fresh Lavenders into by the tie bunches. The big event of the year is next weekend! I was actually surprised by this event...pleasantly surprised. We got there early as we were told it's good to get their early to get your ticket I press your apples. We got out ticket and walked around the downtown area until our designated time. While walking we came across a petting zoo with a big horse, a goat, cute baby chicks , & a turkey with attitude. They had a game center type set up with bouncy castles and face painting and ring toss type activities on the tennis court. There was also the historical museum, the general store, the wagon shop, the tribal museum, and other things to keep the kids busy as well as lots of other things and history to discover for the adults. There weren't a whole lot of food vendors but it was the typical carnival/fair type food. I opted for boiled corn cob and an apple cider float. What...an apple cider float you ask... Well it's a delicious treat that was kind of sorta invented by one of my friends who also opted to give me the VIP tour of the festivities of the Apple Squeeze. Anyway, when it came time to press the apples we headed over to the presses. There is such a variety in the presses. Some are electric and others are manual so if you really want a taste of the old days, opt for the manual labor ones. Since I hadn't carbed up prior to entering the press and didn't feel like doing an manual labor we took my friend's kid over to the electric press and when our time came my friend's daughter tosses the apples in. There was also a good variety in the apples so that you get a good batch of cider. They have the apples shipped in due to issues with apple worms in the past when people brought their own apples. So you don't have to worry as much about food born illness. You still have to boil the cider when you get home anyway to stave off the possibility of bacteria. I will say that when I got home, the cider is super sweet. I actually had to water it down a bit because I was expecting it to be more tart. It was still delicious though. It was very nice to be able to see parts of Steilacoom that I never get to see since practically every business was open to the public. There was also live music for local musicians. The only that may have been more appropriate would have been like a swap meet or a rummage sale or something, but honestly what was there was sufficient enough for us to kill about 4 hours of time.

It WAS NOT scary there were CHILDREN IN LINE, three 8yr olds were behind us. The animatronic were giving discounted spirit Halloween. My partner had done a ruck HOURS before going (18miles with 25+ pounds on this chest under 4hrs) he was tired sore and his ankle was alittle sad but he was a trooper and stood in line for OVER AN HOUR no complaints. The haunted house makes you walk in a single file line. The walk ways are very narrow and they give you REUSED flimsy glasses to alter your vision. Going into the haunted house it's dark but the ground is FLAT, midway the ground goes to an incline and then declines and that happens over and over again then it suddenly SLANTS OVER AND OVER AGAIN that is the reason my husband limped out of the haunted house. My husband is 6ft and i am 5ft we had to crouch sooo much so we didn't hit our heads so be prepared to take some ibuprofen coming out

They have a sign up saying "u-cut bouquet" but when we got to the front of the line, the lady said not today. When we said that maybe she should take that sign down then, she just shrugged. We stayed for 5 mins and left. No wonder parking was easy to find- because people were leaving as soon as they showed up in disappointment. What a complete waste of time. If you want to pick flowers, drive a mile away to Lynch Creek Farm and pick a gorgeous bouquet of dahlias which cost $8/dozen.

Our server at Izzy's recommended the GoFourth Festival and said it was a long standing tradition and a lot of fun, though parking is hell and it is crowded. We arrived at about 8PM and easily found an ADA parking spot after one full pass of the area. Great spot that was close to all of the fun and easy to get in and out of as well. It paid to have an injured foot this year!!!! Great music, fun, food, and a nice family friendly event. Awesome police presence and crowd control. Nice mellow vibe,even though it was quite packed, was still relaxing and a fun place to people watch. One of the best fireworks displays we have seen in a long time. Lake Sacajawea Park is beautiful!! The perfect spot for such a great event. GOLD STAR for all that planned, worked, and organized this awesome festival!!! Job well done. No complaints at all. Looking forward to making this our regular Fourth of July event!!!

If I could describe the Procession of the Species in one word?…read more WEIRD. Oh, but weird doesn't really tell you anything about it, right? The Procession of the Species is an annual celebration commemorating all of the animals on the planet. The big hooha takes place around Earth Day. Not knowing what to do when in Washington, I had the bright idea to take the suggestion of one of the tourist magazines I got at a Seattle convention center. I had a rental car, so why not rack up the mileage on it? So, on a sunny/rainy/dry/wet Saturday in Washington, I force-dragged one of my coworkers to drive down to Olympia with me - a little over an hour drive from Seattle. Olympia, wow. Where the heck am I? Pretty, but, um...? Let's save those comments for a separate review. We get to downtown Olympia, and after driving around a bit we finally find parking and walk over to the festivities. Why I wear 5" heels to a parade is beyond me?! Anywho, WOW! No, I mean...WHERE THE HECK AM I?...kind of, WOW?!!! Being born and raised in San Francisco, the best way for me to describe this to those of you who are familiar with San Francisco is... Imagine if you took Haight Street, the busy part of Haight Street...but Haight Street was an entire town of people...a town full of parading people dressed like animals and fairies and cheese and fish and, and, and...and that is what you get in Olympia for their annual Procession of the Species. It is all very weird, but all very interesting...to say the least. As weird as it was, everyone was really cool and seemed really nice. I would highly recommend you see it, at least once, when you are in the area. Why? Because it is an experience! A weird experience, but an experience! LoL! Oh, Olympia! You amazing little city, you!…read more The Procession of the Species is unlike any parade I've ever seen before, and I'm pretty sure this is a uniquely Olympian event unequaled anywhere else on this planet. It's kind of a peoples' parade in tribute to the animal species of the world. It's not the biggest, the loudest, the flashiest, the weirdest, the sexiest or anything of that sort, but... there's a real heart and soul that goes into this spectacle that just needs to be experienced. Awesome.
