Groupon pricing now. They are trying to get folks in. And Covid is not as prevalent in Lewis County as it is in Pierce and king. We took my Bf 's mom for an outing today on Sat!! Lots of people were here with little kids too. We sat on the back covered wagon part. Then on the way back we sat inside on the way back. It was very sunny today. We saw lots of cows and blackberries and apples on the way. It was a nice outing today. We all have been deprived of human contact.

My husband and I did the Murder Mystery Dinner Train. It was a fun and unique experience. The steam locomotive was out of service, so we were on a diesel powered train, but it didn't make a difference to me. Make sure you buy your tickets early! They only offer this special train once a month during the summer/fall and it sells out quickly. The station is really easy to find because of several signs posted. Once you arrive, there is a free gravel parking lot and some decent bathrooms that you can use. We boarded the train around 4:45 PM (15 minutes early). All of the seating is pre-assigned and if there are less than 4 people in your party, you will be paired with strangers. However, we really enjoyed talking to the other couple at our table. It was nice having someone new to talk to and working with them really helped us solve the murder mystery. The food was ok. They have to bring all the food on board already cooked, so it's kind of like airline food. We had raw vegetables, a small green salad with ranch dressing, bread and butter, prime rib, red potatoes, green beans, and cake. We also had plenty of water and coffee at our table. We spent the first hour eating dinner and doing the murder mystery. We were given a sheet of paper describing the situation and there were four actors walking around. You are supposed to talk to the actors (they come around to your table) and ask questions in order to solve the mystery. The winners get a prize. During the second hour, you can walk around the rest of the train. Some cars are open air, so you can sit "outside" if you'd like. The train goes in a straight line. At the halfway point, it goes back in the other direction. Overall, we had a memorable experience. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to get there from Seattle, but we also planned other activities in that area, so it made the whole trip more worthwhile.

A train parked nearby which was more entertaining than the train ride

Review edited: I appreciate they are all volunteer staff The museum is cool from the outside. My experience is the steamtrainride.com I got a refund but my wife, kids and mother in law went. 1st -steamtrainride.com should have a steam train. It was down for maintenance and that is false advertising. They have a little notice on the site now but I didn't see it when I prepaid in April. It should be more prominent especially with a domain name like that 2nd - It all seemed very unprofessional. I guess its more of a hobby thing but if the steam train was there it would have been cool 3rd - The seats are not padded and its 1.25 hours long With lots of seniors that may have trouble with hard seats for extended periods. I have a bad back and they looked painful but it does give the old time feel 4th - They said they do not follow state or federal guidelines and that we must wear a mask regardless of vaccination status because of the railroad. The staff doesn't strictly adhere and they have outdoor seating 5th - A train should have more than 2 cars for a good experience and emmersion effect. Though I can see an added cost it could be added opportunity. Rent out a billboard that you put on a car. Any number of ways to make it work 6th - The conductor asked everyone if they were enjoying the ride except my family (assuming because I asked for a refund) They did respond quickly and seemed to actually care. They are volunteers preserving history but my experience left lots of room for improvement.

It's not worth it. It doesn't even loop around town. Goes straight about 4 miles then reverse back same route. Not worth it.

Decided to make the plunge a couple of weeks ago and boy am I glad we did! It is an old, renovated train station/depot building - that's now a museum to celebrate and remember the bygone eras of the towns and county. There are multiple displays and exhibits that highlight the many chapters of Lewis County's history and culture, from the time of Native Americans and early pioneers all the way to 1950's. It is filled with actual items from each era (tools, appliances, clothes, maps, merchandise, etc). It really does much to bring history alive and allow visitors to see with their own eyes, and not just in photographs, what people used and lived with. The highlight of the museum, though, is of course the trains! All the way towards the back of the building is a ginormous electric model train set! It's set up to mimic the geography and landscape of Lewis Co. and is so captivating. There are two separate sets and each actually work with the push of a button. There is also a medium sized wooden train set for the kids to enjoy. My two boys absolutely love it!! At just $5 per adult and free for the littles, it's a bargain! I highly recommend the Lewis County Historical Museum for a wonderful time with great fun and learnings for the whole family!!

Open seasonally during the summer, it's a place that you have to check out if you like getting an up-close and personal looksie at vintage farm equipment! Walking in, you enter their main "gift shop" type of room. In it, you will find all sorts of toys, models, and the like - including agriculture vehicles, trucks, construction vehicles, etc. The selection is vast and the pricing is varied, so there is something for everyone. Going through the back exit of that room takes you to the heart of the museum. It includes multiple large, high ceilinged rooms that house their enormous collection of farm equipment. The biggest collection includes tractors, but they've also got other types of equipment and vehicles too. Your visit has to take you outside through their backdoors and enjoy even more, larger pieces of equipment. Back there, your little ones will find a cute little play area that includes a dried bean-filled play table, "big-wheel" type tractors for them to pedal around, and a playground with vintage equipment (remember the old metal slides that burn your skin going down and leave a silver streak down your pants?). LOL! The staff is extremely kind and family friendly. They do not rush you through the visit, are patient with the kids, answer any questions you might have, and let you take your time. I have brought my boys here for almost just the purpose of looking at the models and playing in the back, and the ownership is totally cool with that. They love the fact that the kids like to experience the museum and look at what they have. Very cool, indeed. Their hours are Thursday - Sunday from 10:00am - 4:00pm during June - September. Free for kids 12 and under and only $6.00 for adults, this is an easy and inexpensive option for things to do. The only thing I wish they offered was a membership. Other museums in the area offer a yearly membership that gives you a free admission as one of the perks. Alas, they don't. But oh well. We'll still go there.
