I have some VERY old fillings that another dentist wanted to replace in 2012. The teeth and the fillings weren't causing me any discomfort and, from my point of view, there was no reason to replace them except to build up a larger bill. Dr Glover said to just leave them alone until the outer shell of the molars started to break down, then I'd have to get crowns. 12 years later, I still have two of those molars, and saved a lot of money. Personally I like to be asked first and then shown why a procedure is necessary. They billed me for my deductible in advance for a plan I didn't begin.
