Their staff is great at doing hair and everyone is so kind and helpful, but it is very overstimulating, I would still recommend though!

I have been looking for a FULL HIGH SERVICE SALON since I have been a kid here on the North Shore, to no avail til a few years ago. C.Michaels Has it all! A great Family business with caring owners and staff. From a quick cut, to a long pedicure, they do it all!!! Only issue is trying to get an appointment as the word is out, so PLAN in advance. I'll wait a week for their pedicure and plan ahead on other stuff, like my monthly cuts. Ask for Michael (owner) or dawn , you will never be dissatisfied, I promise. They totally took advantage of my teenage daughter that went there after her scheduled appointment at her regular salon was canceled. She explained that she simply wanted a one-process dye job, cut and a blow-out. 5 hours and nearly $400 later she came home crying. The stylist talked her out of the color she asked for (simple black) and encouraged her to get some highlights. She was told it should cost around $250. After everything, her hair looked exactly the same as when she walked in! They saw someone young and timid and talked her into something that would cost a whole lot more than what she originally asked for. Yes, she has to learn to watch out for crooks, but still, shame on them! (The only reason I did not give one star was that they were kind enough to take her in last minute....) read more

I have been a client of Christopher Michael for years. Both Christopher and Michael are fantastic stylist I've been too. Christopher has been cutting my hair for years. Always cuts my hair the way I ask him. Never had a bad hair cut. Michael cuts and colors my wife's hair. She always gets a lot of compliments on her hair. If you're looking for a great men's haircut, Danielle is the way to go. She has cut my hair for some time now and after a recommendation from my cousin, I've been completely satisfied every time. She is also a lovely person to talk to which is always a plus. The hair washers are thorough and gentle. In fact, I sometimes want to take a snooze after having my hair washed from the relaxed state of mind I'm in after. (head massage should be a service they offer! Haha) The shop is always clean, warm and they usually have a nice selection of music playing. If Danielle isn't feeling the music she will jokingly get the staff to change it. It usually works! The best salon on Staten Island - true professionals! My daughter and I walked in for a cut and blow out for her , Saturday afternoon. Michael, the owner , welcomed us , assisted me, and discussed options - for my do it myself box colored, truly fried, and cut on my own hair. I left there with color, highlights (that he matched to my skin tone ), glaze, an expert cut, blow out with subtle curls. Okay, so last time I came here was for a new doo for my ex bosses wedding. Summer, moreover AUGUST has very humid weather. So getting a blow-out did not work out all that well for me. So because CM is around the corner from my house, I called on my way home from work (had a half day) and they gave me an immediate appointment. Jodi gave me a great blowout. Forgive me if I'm a little off with the names. In 2014 I had a great experience for my daughter's Prom. Brenna is an amazing patient stylist who did a beautiful job on my daughter's waist length hair - exactly what she wanted. Korrine (forgive me if I spelled wrong) Excellent make up - does a beautiful finished natural look with making my daughters big brown eyes pop. So this year 2016 I went back with my youngest daughter. I scheduled a trial with Brenna one month prior. When I get there Brenna said - I wont be here for the prom going on Maternity leave. (The front desk doesn't know this???) OK so they sit my daughter with this kind older gentleman who meant well but OBVIOUSLY had no idea how to work with my daughter's thick long hair. A young stylist comes over and whispers - get Pablo to do it. OK so, we politely excuse ourselves from the kind older stylist and process to front desk to make an tril appt with Pablo. Dina - froint desk says no need for a trial. Um Excuse me? after a bit of back and forth we find a date to accomodate Pablo. Korrine was able to do the trial make up - ONCE AGAIN - AN AMAZING JOB. Trial appt date - Pablo Shows up 40 minutes late for the trial hair appt. Looks at the picture my daughter shows him - and proceeds to do his own hairstyle - which was pretty - but NOT what my daughter wanted. Defeated and annoyed I pay the $75 for the hair and leave. Try to get an appt elsewhere and now it's too late. DAY OF PROM: On our way to Christopher Michael we get a call from DINA - Pablo is stuck in traffic and no idea when he will arrive. Does not offer my daughte alternative solution. My daughter explains she has a pre=prom to get too and Dina sacarstically asks What the hell is a pre-prom. SO NASTY AND UNACCOMODATING! I thank the Lord for New York New York on forest Avenue who whisked my daughter in and did EXACTLY what she wanted. But now we had to go back to CM for her make up - no choice and I like Korrine - so it was fine. We walk in and what does Dina say. Oh it looks nice but you better spray it. I took everything I had not to jump over the counter. She is typical obnoxious and rude. Although Korrine did an amazing job - I will never go back there because of how we were treated Like it was our fault. Never have been so uncomfortable in my life. read more

This is a neighborhood salon for me, so I really wanted to love it. I've been giving it a chance a lil over a year, always had some problem Huge or small and never seemed to get my moneys worth. This review is long over due. 1st time - got a hair cut from MICHAEL, was decent except a small section of hair was a bit longer then the rest, wasn't a big deal had my sister snip it for me. 2nd time - was in desperate need of a cut, called made an appt with a new girl (sorry completely forgot her name, a bit chubby with shoulder length brown hair if you made an appt with her run!), she chopped my hair off. I have really fine hair so every strained counts, i ended up looking like Joe Dirt. Mentioned the experience to a friend that originally recommended the salon for me and she said i should only go to Christopher for cuts. 3rd time- went to CHRISTOPHER only slightly better then the girl who mutilated my hair prior, but still gave me a boxy look. 4th time- went back to MICHAEL he did a decent job again but the blow out made my hair sooooo puffy. Wasn't a big deal smoothed it down once i got home. Interestingly enough my sister met a stylist that use to work in another salon on Staten Island for years, and she claimed he did an amazing color job... I was interested. 5th time - I was in desperate need of a change. Called in for a double process with ANTHONY. He only worked two days a week, my sister validated his work, seen some of his clients hair the visit prior, i was a tad impressed. I "was" a natural Med Brown and I wanted to go blonde with blonde highlights, keep in mind i have "Med Brown fine hair". He gave me a base color and highlights, I ended up with orange, gold, yellow, and white highlights with an orangey brown base. No toner was used. Further inspection i noticed my foils where all over the place some not even touching my scalp on an angle, really light spots really dark spots a total mess. Was absolutely Devasted. Only up side, his partner gave me a really great blow out. 6th and final time - Showed ANTHONY the foils and the color and asked him for a correction. He told me he needed to make me darker in lieu of completely bleaching out my hair to take the orange out. The foils where once again not evenly place through out my head, had light and dark patches again, once again multi colored highlights...didnt really take the orange out. No toner was used again. $245 down the drain. He has a loyal clientele that been with him for years, but as a new client i was not happy. Now i have to spend extra at a Real pro like bumble and bumble, redken, or aveda to correct this hideous hair color and give me what i want. All Pro's are suppose to consider whether or not they can give you what your asking before taking your money and mutilating your hair. I have never left this salon completely "Done" there has always been something extra I had to take care of myself once i left. With the money I paid that shouldn't be the case. Like i said i really wanted to love this salon but as far as my hair goes they couldn't cut it. read more

They did my hair, makeup, and nails for my wedding and the hairstyles for all of my bridesmaids. They were phenomenal! Very friendly and, best of all, reasonably priced. The nails were a little expensive, but I got the UV treatment that lasted for weeks so I can see why. My hair looked EXACTLY the way I wanted it to and they treated my veil and haircomb like gold haha. I will say that during my makeup trial, my makeup came out a little "bolder" than I'd wanted it to, but the day of the wedding, it couldn't have come out more perfect. They also thanked me for bringing my entire bridal party there by giving me a goodie bag of cool hair products and lip gloss that I took with me on the honeymoon. I highly recommend them! read more

Had my hair done here for my wedding. It was my fault for not doing a trial first but went here on a friend's recommendation. I have waist length hair and showed the stylist, Pablo, about 10 pictures of what I wanted - loose curls, very boho and non overly styled look. I ended up with junior high school prom hair, very tight, shiny curls with a bun on top. Since it took forever and I needed to get to the venue, I couldn't stay and have someone else fix the hair. I kept my veil on the entire time. The veil ended up coming off in the middle of the wedding and my hair just looked terrible. The curls went away and I was left with a rat's nest. I liked my haircut and blow out, but felt both the girl that washed my hair and the actual hairstylist were rough with my hair at times, pulling a little harder than I like. When my hair was getting washed, she also felt the need to wash my ears and neck. The haircut and blowout were a job well done, but the whole ambience didn't wow me. Six months ago I received a highlight, wash, cut & a blowout & my hair has never looked worse, on top of the highlight that left bleed marks, a wash that drenched my shirt, a cut that I'm still upset about (even after a corrective cut) I paid upwards of $250 because I have "thick long hair". Mind you, my hair is two inches past my shoulder, blonde & straight, not at all thick. The stylist Bernadette (I think) was rude, unprofessional & cut my bangs only with thinning sheers. I stopped her right away but she argued with me that the "blunt bang" I asked for would be too thick. The angles she gave me were all wrong & my hair falls the complete wrong way ever since. This ordeal that should take taken maybe two hours, lasted for four & a half because my stylist would go smoke cigarettes while I was waiting for the dye to process - the timer would ring & I would have to leave the chair & track her down in fear of my hair over processing. I had also gotten a manicure which was a different atrocity. The cuticle cutters has someone else's skin in them & when I asked the woman to clean them, she wiped them on the paper towel under my hands. I found the only simple light pink opi color & it must have been watered down because it chipped the next day. Most of their polishes are at least 10 years old. Never again will I step foot near this place. read more

Christopher Michael is a down to earth salon, with welcoming employees and great products that they use and sell. I've never had a bad experience here. I highly recommend coming here for Brazilian waxes (request for Tina- she's very thorough and doesn't mess around), and any kind of hair style, cut, do, or dye. I've been going to Corinn for years for my hair (and she's a bomb makeup artist) and she never disappoints. She'll never do anything that she doesn't think will make you look your absolute best (even if you ask for it) which is why I love her! Their prices are a bit up there, but it's worth it if you get a hair dresser like Corinn and an esthetician like Tina. read more

I've come here a couple of times for eyebrow threading, which was great and I decided to give them a try for color and a cut. I'm so impressed! First, the receptionist Dina is as sweet and welcoming as can be - I felt like I was visiting family she's so sweet! Both eyebrow threaders are fantastic and sweet. My stylist, Amanda, was great. She was patient with me as I had to bring my 7 month old since I didn't have a sitter and it had been 4 months since my last cut and color - life if a new mom! ;) Even more impressive she gave me a fantastic (and even) haircut while my baby sat in my lap. My color looks great and I can't wait to go back - next time on my own and I'll get a babysitter so I can get the full relaxation. Highly recommend this salon. read more

Had to go somewhere to get my hair blown out for a wedding I'm in tomorrow. Just needed it clean and smooth, didn't want any products that could give me a problem when I get my hair done in the morning. Amanda was very nice, and did a great job. She made my hair look great, and had to do a bit of hard work without using products to make her job easier. I'd definitely come back. One word..... Excellence!!! I always have Chris cut and style my hair. I currently live in Chicago, but I do visit my family very often on Staten Island, and I always stop and see my other family. That's what this place feels like when you go in, like family. From the service, to the staff I would say it's one of the best places to cursor to pamper your hair. My sister loves this place too!! Chris is an amazing stylist! He had given me 4 great cuts so far and I'm always happy. They grow in very nicely as well. He's colored my hair twice, and had catered to my request of Using ppd and amonia free dye. He listens, offers suggestions, welcomes picture references, and is over all a nice person and easy to talk to. Alexis who washes is really awesome too. She has a great sense of humor and I always really enjoy going there for "me time". The rest of the staff are always friendly as well. I have been going to this salon for a few years. I walked in and randomly got Brenner, who is AMAZING!!!!! Everyone treats you like you are the most important person in the salon. There is always fresh coffee and all give their best; whether they are washing your hair or cutting it. Brenner is sooo talented as a hairstylist in every aspect. She cuts and styles exactly as you want. I once needed a vintage do for a show I was in, and she did it EXACTLY like the picture I brought. This is the most unprofessional salon I have ever been to. The place is filthy and I'm not talking about hair on the floor. There is other garbage that should be in the garbage pail, but instead is all over floor (tissues, etc). Shelves that hold products that they want you to buy are full of dust. I peeked behind counter where they apply makeup and the makeup brushes were filthy. I would not allow anyone to use those bacteria covered brushes on me. The people who work the front desk are rude. They never say thank you, can't even hand you your change when you pay, they slap it down on the counter. On one occasion there was a stylist telling a vulgar joke in front of other customers. read more

I have really curly hair, and have been going to Michael (owner) for about 10 years. His haircuts are amazing, and somehow always have a great shape whether I wear my hair straight OR curly. The haircuts look good as they grow out, too. I don't let anyone else cut my hair, and for good reason! This was my first time to this salon, I choose it based on the reviews. I treated myself to a completely new do and decided to have my eyebrows threaded. It is a nice looking salon, in a good location and excellent customer service. I felt very welcome when I came in and as a side note they make great coffee. Chrissy did my hair and I was completely thrilled with the outcome. The threading is something completely different. It was snowing the day I went and I was told in advance to expect she might be running late. I completely understood and waited patiently. When she did arrive she went straight to her chair, took out her cell and never checked to see if anyone was waiting. I went over and she seemed annoyed that I bothered her. I decided after the brows to do the side of my face and chin as well. The whole process felt like a race to finish, she never applied any gel after wards and got annoyed again when I took a minute to look in the mirror at the results. She said I would be red for a while, but never mentioned the horrible red bumps all over my face. My mother went to her usual place and was told the threader had been to rough. I would definitely return for a hair cut, but I will never again come back for threading services. read more

I came here for a quick wash and blow out and had it done by Amanda, She was really sweet and nice and helped make sure i was happy with what I wanted. I loved the Moroccan Oil products they use they smell so good. I didn't see a lot of people here this day but I heard it does get crowded at times. It cost me $30 for a blow out but I hear for more senior hairstylist and even for color and cuts the bill can be very expensive which I don't think I will be doing that. I would come back for another wash and blow it was just simple and nothing fancy or curls and I recommend Amanda she was professional and good at what she does and I enjoyed her friendly personality and conversation she was having with me. They do offer you water, tea and coffee too. The place is very clean and nice washing station and hair stylist station. They also do nails here and everything is much easier and better if its done by appointment first. read more

Was treated in a condescending and disrespectful manor for no reason.. Not to go in to detail but suffice to say there is no excuse for a salon that charges big prices to offer such a bad experience. All I can say is Chris, the owner, is an amateur! 15 years experience? Really?!! He totally botched my pixie haircut, it's chopped up, uneven, AND doesn't blend at all. And what should have been highlights framing my face, looks like an orange patch on the side of my head! HORRIBLE! I wish that YELP offered a feature to download pictures, so I can show you what this guy did to me!! I went to another hair salon to have it fixed (same day) and even they were shocked at how horrible the cut was and the color! The woman who fixed it said it looked like a 5 year old cut my hair!!! Oh, and I forgot to mention, he first colored my base since I have a lot of gray hairs, that are practically white, well my hair had a green tint to it. Any experienced salon knows that you don't put brown on white, because you'll get GREEN!!! And some of the color didn't take to the gray, which left me with spots of gray hair still! I wish I had noticed this before paying for the botched job. It's hard to see since the lighting is very low in the salon. When I got home and took a closer look, I discovered the disaster! Horrified, I called him immediately...basically, he gave me a lecture, said he never has had a complaint, and if I wanted to return he would fix it. NO THANK YOU! I will not let this man touch my hair again! I did ask if he would refund a portion of my money, particularly for the color process and he refused!! Very poor customer service!!!!
