Had a full knee replacement by Dr. Woodsen on 9/14/23. I requested to be first in line and I was. I have never been treated so well in a surgery unit as I was at Los Alamitos Hospital! It was spotless, the nurses were so nice and attentive and everything was wonderful! The nurse got my IV in my hand on the first try and I went home without even a bruise on my hand! Dr. Woodsen came and sat down with me and asked if I had any questions. He made me feel so relaxed. I was concerned about being awake for the spinal and the anesthesiologist had me completely out before even getting to the doors of the surgery room! It was a very smooth experience and I came home amazed at how smooth the process was. Dr. Woodsen is an amazing doctor, tells it like it is, and explains everything to you in detail. Ruptured my patellar tendon and needed surgery asap. During my search for the best surgeons for my kind of injury, I made a call to his office and got hold of Estela. I can't believe what a wonderful experience this has been. I was so unhappy with my original surgeon I elected to find a new one to take the hardware out of my collarbone from an AC Separation injury. Dr Phillip Hill is a complete pile -- DO NOT see him. Dr Woodson's office is clean and big and they have Oatmeal Creme Pies! My lady comes with me to the appt just for that. Estela, the front office woman, is amazing. She's the most attentive medical professional I've ever met. She went above and beyond to get me into the office and get my surgery done as soon as possible. She made sure to give me all the info every step of the way. Seriously, it was shocking. She'd answer my calls and give me quality information or call me back with the correct answer in a timely manner. She's amazing. Then we get to Dr Woodson -- cool as a cucumber. Dr Woodson has fixed me 3 times (hip and 2 shoulders) and has done so amazingly! His knowledge and his experience really makes him one of the top in his field. I would like to thank Dr. Woodson and his staff for their professionalism and caring ways. In 2013 Dr. Woodson did my right total knee replacement. He sent me to a rehab facility after I left the hospital and they did physical therapy with me twice a day and I healed very quickly. In March of 2022, I broke my ankle and Dr. Woodson did surgery to repair the break. I am healing nicely. He and his staff also wrote an amazing letter to my employer allowing me to return to work. My work was concerned about me returning to work, but as I explained I only sit and never move and I wanted to get out again. As my job is only 12 to 15 hours a week, Dr. Woodson agreed that it would be good for me. I would recommend Dr. Woodson for any of your orthopedic needs, He is an amazing doctor. read more

I can't thank Dr. Woodson enough for helping me recover from a completely blown out knee. I tore my ACL and meniscus and Dr. Woodson was able to get me in right away for an ACL reconstruction. The surgery went very smoothly and all of my follow up appointments were very constructive. I was in high school during this time, and I went to one of my follow up appointments alone to find out that I needed a potential second surgery due to a cyclops lesion in my knee. Dr. Woodson and his staff were so helpful and supportive which was very nice as a 17 year old! Soon after, I was back to 100% with no knee problems whatsoever. I had my first appointment with Dr.Woodson today. I didn't have to wait long for an appointment. Very nice and friendly staff, receptionists, and PA. I was able to get a full set of X-rays of my knee, and the first of three injections all in the same appointment! Dr. Woodson was very pleasant and professional, took time to explain my X-rays and gave me my injection. I've been a RN for 45 years and know when I'm being treated well. I can't express how thankful and happy I am for choosing Dr. Woodson to help me with the pain and suffering I have dealt with for years. Sixteen years ago, I tore my ACL playing soccer which then was "repaired" by a surgeon that placed screws in my knee, leaving me with a hideous scar that was closed with staple. Over the years, I couldn't workout nor simply walk for more than a mile until my knee started to swell and ache. It became unbearable and frustrating; thats when I knew I needed to a see a trusted professional. From the minute I walked through the office doors, I was immediately greeted by his staff. An X-Ray was taken in office prior to seeing Dr. Woodson. With that, he knew that the screw had to be the issue but needed an MRI to be sure. After viewing the MRI, I was given a few options and surgery being one of them. Considering the screw was not in the right place, I knew that I could trust Dr. Woodson to fix the issue. I had a floating screw in my knee as well as an ACL that needed to be repaired. Not only was everything inside my knee repaired, he also made my scar a hell of a lot nicer than it looked before; something that I was very insecure about. I am now 3 months post op and am already feeling much more stability than I did before. Throughout this whole process, Dr. Woodson has been very informative, great bedside manner and will genuinely give you options that he thinks is best for you. I wanted to make an appoint with Dr. Woodson because he Yelped very well, but I saw there had been some billing issues. I called to verify that they take Anthem Blue Cross. They said it would be best to call Anthem with their tax ID number 815068105. I figured out the issue. They do not bill using the doctor's tax numbers. They bill using the "Beach Ortho Office" ID number which appears for Dr. Klug but not Dr. Woodson. My Anthem Bluecross agent did her best to get to the bottom of the issue, but the receptionist said she wasy too busy to help and referred her to Elizabeth at (818) 986-2861. That line was just an answering machine, so I will have to go to another doctor who can verify coverage. I can't risk going and being billed out of network prices because of the use of a different tax number. Hope this helps someone else. read more

He never leaves his patients alone with their, often big, frightening problem. Dr. Woodson takes active part in their recovery, helping them in any way possible. In my case Dr Woodson thought out-of-the-box to use surgical ideas in order to save my knee and allow me to lead active lifestyle. Any of my concerns have always been addressed with great attention. Additional x rays, ct scans were available any time he thought they might help make right decisions for rehabilitation. I had back problem causing me a lot of pain and, although it was not his specialty, Dr Woodson provided a referral for a back mri, discussed it with me afterwards when I came to check the knee progress. Dr. Woodson's area of expertise is extensive and he has empathy and desire to help his patients. He advised me to attend sessions at a very advanced rehab clinic, monitoring my pt treatment plans. His PRP injections helped to speed up my after surgery recovery tremendously. Be forewarned!!!!! If you are Blue Cross / Blue Shield you may get treated like you are out of network. Got screened on the first call to the office about being in the GOLD plan. They told me they only take GOLD. Sent me back to BCBS to check my plan which is a full PPO and the BCBS site showed they were contracted in-network. Insurance told me there was no such thing as a GOLD plan and if they were scrutinizing patients that I should probably not go to this office, Beach Orthopedics. Don't get caught. read more

Thank God I was referred to Dr.Woodson by Dr.Borden. He had to redo my TKR I originally had done 3 yrs ago by Dr Stuart Gold. I wouldn't recommend anyone to Dr.Gold.!! I had a 3 phase bone scan done a year after my knee replacement and it showed several issues going on inside my knee, but still Dr.Gold did nothing to help my knee problem.!! I'm currently going through physical therapy and Dr.Woodson by far 100% better Orthopedic knee specialist I've met by far. I would recommend him to all my family and friends. read more

Maybe this has something to do with being a Blue Cross / Blue Shield insured patient as one of the reviewers below highlights, maybe it was something else. I wish I could have had a 5 star review and Dr. Woodson has friendly staff - I'm sure he means well but unfortunately I had too many major issues in my overall experience (2 visits, retrieving reports and expected referrals as well as actual referrals): Various issues: 1). When referred for my MRI they had listed the wrong side/part of the body for the MRI (had to catch that and alert the doctor at the hospital) --- they told me the issue was from the referring doctor 2). They listed the wrong gender, and wrong age on my medical records at his office (seems like an obvious detail), makes you sort of wonder what else could be wrong (?) - i.e. the diagnosis? 3). Both appointments felt rushed and that's okay if you get some answers - i.e. "Here how to alleviate your issue, where it came from and how to fix it?" This part was frustrating. The reason you go to/pay the doctor is they are the expert. All you can do (and should do as a patient is ask questions) than listen...not clear in answers/and you had to ask basic questions 4). No notice of a referral before leaving the office on my final visit regarding a PT - almost every doctor I've ever been to gives you the information of the place you are being referred to (or has them reach out to you) before you leave the office --- I had to call to find out if/or a referral was made available 5). Had to repeatedly ask for medical record copies --- as a patient these days its' one of the only ways for you to track your health, unfortunately even when it was ready it wasn't made available before I left (and I'd asked for it), even when I went to pick it up it wasn't complete!!! I had to call for the referral copy to be faxed --- and the PT had said that the diagnosis was unclear and contradictory! 6). Office manager asked me to get my own referral copy from who they referred me to --- well what was the point of going to the doctor if you can't provide your patient the referal? Various issues that probably happen at every doctor: 1). Appointment time doesn't reflect when you'll be seen --- i.e. you could be the first on there for your appointment and still be seen 3-4 folks later (possibly an urgency issue?) Various compliments: 1). Polite and friendly front office staff as well as some of the medical staff, really great receptionist and some of the staff 2). Office looks well invested in/has in house x-ray machine 3). Huge parking lot at the medical center My speculation is his filled waiting rooms are a function of his success/and a small supply of available orthopedists with open appointments, and how relatively poorer the results/experiences exist from the other/existing orthopedists driving folks to his clinic. Overall - friendly staff, and Dr, and appears to mean well, but I think there needs to focus on details/be more organized/delivery of results. Dr. Christopher Woodson was referred to me by my medical group. I suffered with great pain from a car accident 25 years prior, went to many Orthopedics and was told the same thing, they could not repair my tendon and soft tissue damage. During my first appointment with Dr Woodson, he was confidant with a 95% success rate of surgical repair. I was apprehensive, but liked him and wanted to be hopeful. I booked my surgery. Today I am 7 weeks post surgery, and I can walk with NO pain and NO limp (crying with happy tears). I still have lots of PT to work through, but the miracle Dr. Woodson gave me is beyond words. He told me he could repair me, but I had to do all the healing by having zero weight bearing for 4 to 5 weeks. He said if we could do that, then he was confidant I would be able to live without pain. He not only repaired me, he gave me my life back. Dr. Woodson is very honest, forthcoming, and has mad (very good) surgical skills with soft tissue and tendons. I am forever grateful, thankful, and blessed to know this talented Doctor. Dr. Woodson fixed my knee and shoulder. I took two years off coaching baseball but started coaching again this year. I feel like a kid with two new toys....and knee to run with and a arm to throw with I never thought it possible but I can throw batting practice and teach outfielders how to run down a fly ball at full speed. All thanks to Dr. Woodson's work. My experience with Dr. Woodson and his staff was EXCELLENT! I really could not be happier about my experience and the result. I had suffered with shoulder pain for 4 YEARS. My regular doctor, his partner, and another doctor all did not believe that surgery was necessary to make the pain go away and return it back to full use. I struggled through physical therapy and home stretching and exercise but nothing worked. I was finally able to see Dr. Woodson. He seems to ask the all the right questions and really listened what was going on with my shoulder. When it was all said and done I had a reconstructed shoulder. NOW, six months later I am pain free and have more range of motion than I have had for ten years. I teach and coach baseball and had not been able to throw a baseball the last four years. THAT WAS UNFUN and demoralizing to some effect. After a while I just accepted that my throwing days were over. The other day a student of mine threw a ball to me, saying his knuckleball was "wicked", I threw my knuckleball, which really is "wicked", back to him. I still am not sure who was more surprised. My student couldn't believe how good my knuckleball was or me because I THREW A BALL WITH OUT HTINKING ABOUT IT AND UNDER CONTROL WITH NO PAIN. This office apparently multi-book patients and make them wait 1-2 hours with no apologies. I am very disappointed. I saw someone checked in before me, and the appointment time wasn't even 5 minutes apart. It was at the same exact time with the same exact doctor as mine. I would say this is unethical, and I won't take this from a doctor's office. (Shouldn't medical professionals have higher standards of ethics? Maybe it's just my opinion.) read more

Dr. Woodson has a good bedside manner and his staff are very nice and accommodating. However, I took my 18 year old son to him the day after he dislocated his hip. He ordered a MRI and we had it completed the next day. THREE WEEKS later Dr. Woodson tells us that the rim of my son's hip was actually broken off and he needed surgery. He also stated that he was unable to do the surgery and referred him to someone else. I took him to Ceders Sinai and they admitted him the same day for surgery. They couldn't believe that this wasn't addressed earlier. My son's hip could have re-dislocated, it could have caused additional damage to his bone leading to a need for hip replacement etc. Research shows that the longer the time period between the injury and surgery the greater the chance of complications. Three weeks was considered at a great risk of further complications. He really was medically negligent in my son's case. read more

Dr. Woodsen is an absolute rock star of a surgeon. I ruptured my triceps tendon in a dirt bike spill. Tore it right off the bone. Worst part of this is that my favorite pastimes are golf and weight training. So i was crushed when Dr. Woodsen informed me that i needed immediate surgery, and that full recovery would take a minimum of 6 months, but more likely 8 months, depending on the condition of the tendon and the success of the surgery. I asked him how many ruptured triceps he'd repaired, and his answer was "not that many, and if any ortho surgeon tells you they've done a lot of them, they're lying." Reason being, it's REALLY hard to rupture the triceps tendon, because it's a very wide tendon, and because of it's construction as an extension of the triceps muscle into the elbow. "Lucky me!" I thought. Doc Woodsen felt good about the surgery, and rightly so. Thanks to his masterful work, and my commitment to physical therapy, i was making birdies on the golf course after only THREE months. And here's a bonus - i have full sleeve tattoos on both arms, and Doc literally shaped his incision to flow along the curve of a flame that's located right over my elbow. My tattoo artist was blown away that my tattoos needed zero touching up! If you are an athlete with a sports injury, or an older dude like me that's committed to staying young, ripped and active, see this man and trust this man. You will be in the best of hands! About 5 years ago I was blessed to have Dr Woodson repair rotator cuffs on both shoulders due to a very serious bicycle accident. Surgery was completely successful, recovery fast, and absolutely NO pain whatsoever during nor after recovery. I am totally in awe of his skill and competence. I later needed a hip replacement and again requested Dr Woodson, however, was sent to another surgeon by my insurance. The hip surgery results did not go well, and I truly regret not being able to have it done by Dr Woodson, whom I call "DR NO PAIN". God bless him. read more

Dr. Woodson is the best !!!! Eleven years ago he assisted on my shoulder (rotator cuff with bone spurs), happy to say shoulder is 100% . Seven Years ago Dr. Woodson repaired my sons broken tibia, my son is also back to 100% and on to playing on a NCAA level athletic team. Three years ago Dr. Woodson repaired a severely broken arm (skateboard accident , forearm broke in multiple places) of my nephew . This injury was severe, Dr. Woodson had to put the puzzle of broken bones back together with screws and plates. My nephew is also back to 100 % and back to skating and surfing at a very high level. A year ago my oldest nephew was in a dirt bike accident and broke his collarbone as well as detached his shoulder and all the ligaments in that area, this to was a extremely complicated surgery, Dr. Woodson again to the rescue , He repaired his collar bone with screws and plates and reattached shoulder parts with cadaver tendons. Happy to say that My nephew is well on his way back to 100 %.And finally six months ago my 80 year old and extremely active mom had a new knee put in by Dr. Woodson , Although painful, she is back to being very, very active with no pain . Thank goodness our family has Dr. Woodson to keep us together. If I could give Dr. Chris Woodson more stars I surly would . The office was so accommodating and got us in for a new patient appointment within just a couple days of his injury. Estela helped us through the surgery process and deserves 5 stars of her own. Dr. Woodson has given me years back that I thought I had lost forever. Due to a condition I was born with, and being super athletic when I was younger, my knee caps were misaligned and shredded, plus a torn meniscus. Before finding this guy - the pain was unmanageable, and I could hardly do simple things like: walk, run, sit, or ride a bike. The doctors I had before him were horrible, and gave me no hope of functioning like a normal person. Then I found Estella, Beth, and Dr. Woodson. Estella and Beth are the most amazing office staff/managers you will ever meet. I was a mess, and my insurance was a mess. The outstanding customer service they provided me is the reason why I was able to see this Doctor to begin with. Dr. Woodson is a highly skilled surgeon with great bed-side manners. He was sure he could fix my injuries - and he delivered.!! Not only did he deal with my shady insurance company, he performed a lateral release on both knees (two months apart), and cleaned up the decades of damage.
