I am a 65 year old male who is very active. Dr. Wassef did a total R hip replacement on me two weeks ago. I had a successful left hip replacement 2.5 years ago by another surgeon who used a more universal posterior approach with MAKO robotic assist, so I have a good point of comparison. Dr. Wassef uses the DSA (Direct Superior Approach) with MAKO robotic assist which is currently a less common method due to the specific training and technique required to do this approach (google DSA to see differences). In simple terms i have been blown away at how minimally invasive this approach seems to be. Without a doubt, to date, this technique has been less painful than my previous hip. I am so impressed at how quickly I was walking normally without a walker or cane and without any limp. At 2 weeks in I am in PT doing exercises that i could not get to many many weeks beyond the 2 week point with my previous hip. Incision is quite small as well but i am not a "meaty" guy so not sure what allowed me to have such a small incision. Lastly I have NO problem taking narcotic pain meds like oxycodone! I'm not an abuser but definitely a willing user if need be. After this surgery I had real trouble justifying much of any use of the Oxy prescribed. I easily survived on two 500 mg tabs of Tylenol 2x's a day once in AM and once before bed. Thanks Doc. read more

Dr Wassef replaced my knee over a year ago and he did an outstanding job! I randomly found Dr Wassef through my coworker who recommended him. I had a really jacked up knee for years and years and Dr Wassef spent an extra 45+ minutes of surgery time making sure my knee was done perfect. I hadn't straightened my knee out in 15 years and now it straightens easily. I had continual knee pain for years and now I have none. The rehab process is long but worth every minute. The best thing about Dr. Wassef is he knows he's really good at what he does, however he cares about his patients and he takes his job seriously. Dr. Andrew Wassef is an exceptional surgeon. He is a master of the complexities and nuances of knee revision surgery. He and his team operated on my brother, Robert. Dr. Wassef fixed a serious problem with Robert's leg and knee that required two surgeries. Before his surgery, Robert made some life changes that were recommended for a successful surgery. He modified his diet, getting his diabetes under control, and quit smoking. Robert is now walking normally and has his mobility restored. The office staff are thorough and helpful. Wassef is THE BEST!!! I'm sitting here 8 days after a partial knee replacement in minimal pain, and swelling. I had a physical therapist friend come check me out a few days post op, and she was stunned at how great my knee was. Had my post op eval with the place where I'll be doing PT, and the therapist there said it's the best she's seen this soon after surgery. Aside from the actual surgery being an all around (and quite unexpected) great experience (how that's even possible for a surgery ‍) Dr Wassef himself is a really great, and personable professional. Talking with him is very easy, great bedside manner which having already had 4 other knee surgeries with 2 other surgeons, this is not the norm for surgeons in my experience. Not only that, but he gave me his own personal cel number in case I had any issues, I could just go straight to him and get things taken care of. He's hit me up a few times since the surgery just to make sure I'm doing well. Also, he's a funny dude, so that makes talking with him even easier. His staff has been great as well, working with me and my TERRIBLE insurance (I hate AppleCare...they're garbage) to get everything pre surgery worked out. They've been very good about contacting me to make sure I've been doing good as well. It's been a really great experience, and unfortunately I know I'll need another partial on my other knee, but fortunately I can get that done through Wassef, so I'm not as worried about it as I was before I found him. Dr. Wassef is the absolute best when it comes to joint replacements! He did my full complex right hip replacement this past May. He was extremely patient and explained all the aspects of the surgery to me. He was also very upfront with his concerns about my A1C levels and insisted that I get my A1C below a certain level to minimize my risk for infections after the surgery. Dr. Wassef and his physician's assistant Joseph Gutierrez are a rock star team! I knew that I was in the best of hands for my hip replacement surgery, and I've never had any problems with any of my appointments before or after the surgery. In my eyes he is an angel. He gave me so much by fixing me leg and giving me the use of my leg that had been previously injured. It is the best that it's been in 18 yrs. My case was supposed to be a total knee replacement with hardware removal easy right. When he opened my leg he found that my leg was disintegrating and peeling away inside my leg. Any other doctor would have closed me up and said no way. But being the great doctor he is he reconstructed my leg and the put in my new knee. Thanks to him I have a new leg and knee. Dr Wassef is my hero. I met Dr. Wassef a day after hip surgery 2018 only because he had to correct the previous surgery. It was the worst pain,recovery I ever went through. November 8,2021 he did hip replacement on my opposite hip. I haven't been pain free from the waist down in over 5yrs. This hip surgery was fabulous no pain like before not even close. I consulted with 3 phenomenal surgeons prior to choosing Dr. Wassef..... Now, I had about a 2 hour wait to consult with Dr. Wassef for the 1st time - and frustrated, had my mind made up in the waiting room ("damn it, I'm goin to Hoag!" Haha.) HOWEVER, it took all of about 3 minutes in conversation with Dr. Wassef to know unequivocally, he was the surgeon for me!! I'm on the younger side for total hip replacement surgery (51), and have been a multi-facetead° athlete my entire life. Running is by far, my cardio preference - and I still play tennis, lift, do yoga, n some HIIT etc...)! ° Dr. Wassef listened and treated my! questions, opinions and goals with respect....He also made me hopeful I could get back to what I love to do in life! (None of the other surgeons gave any real hope of that...) If your looking for a "sawbone" he's your guy. I learned the hard way I was just a number. He's in the business of surgery, which he does fine. But he could care less about your recovery or you as a person. I was sent home from the hospital WITHOUT medication. I called his office multiple times, I got no return call. The one that helped me was the hospital advocate. I'm not shy I told him what I though of his lack of care and he smiled, he was amused. I had a knee replaced 10 years earlier, so this second time, I thought I knew what to expect. The first surgeon was in San Diego, he was kind, thoughtful as well as being a good surgeon. I don't yelp, but this guy is a real piece of work, smiles as he explains the procedure, leaving out that he doesn't want to hear from you after he operates. His PA has the bedside manors Dr Wassef is like a machine, nothing behind those eyes. There are too many fine surgeons out there that can muster some kindness and concern, even though they are busy professionals. This guy thinks he's better than you And we all know it doesn't matter what designations are on anyone name plate, as humans we all matter the same. Dr.Wassef man where to I start. The doctor is GREAT. Very up front about my condition, he wanted me to lose weight before he performed my surgery. It was not easy took me a minute. His talking to me about the weight loss was honest. He also, explained to me about infections that could happen if I didn't take care of myself meaning (weight loss). The man Doctor know his job. Surgery was GREAT. I was not able to bend my leg for about 5 years. Now I'm able to go to plays, travel by air . I can go on and on about him. Dr. Wassef staff they are so beautiful very patience with me I called them a lot sometimes about something they told me before but none of the beautiful ladies in the office was irritated with me. I was referred to Dr. Andrew Wassef by my primary care physician last year because of the pain I was experiencing from the arthritis in my hip. I liked Dr. Wassef immediately because he is so personable and very proactive with my care. I had hip replacement surgery on June 10, 2015. I could not be more pleased with the outcome. When I went for my first physical therapy eval. post surgery, the supervising physical therapist asked who did my surgery. When I told him who had done it, he said that he could tell he did a very good job. My follow up visits with Dr. Wassef have been great too. I have arthritis in my right knee so he has been checking that as well as the progress of my hip. Over the past year, I have resumed my active lifestyle, going to the gym several times a week, walking my dogs twice a day, singing with my two choirs and whatever else I wanted to do. My hip feels great. I think Dr. Wassef's office staff is great too. They got everything scheduled for the surgery and dealt with some insurance issues, resolving them completely. Dr Wassef is one of the top hip and knee surgeons around. He's compassionate, knowlegable, and makes you feel like your his only patient. That's rare these days! He put me completely at ease immediately. As far as his staff they to are first class, from Liz and Deb to his assistant Joseph, they just couldn't have been nicer. I had a lot of guestions but never ever felt rushed in any way, never. This is a first class organization from top to bottom and I have no concerns. Like other reviews, this is not so much about the doctor, although one could argue that the buck stops at the top, but more-so the office management which seems almost non existent, as evidenced by the lack of competent oversight. As a result, some in the office staff appear to think they can treat patients in any way they wish and that it's ok and normal business practice to do so, especially since they do not seem to recognize there might be negative consequences for their job. If this type of behavior is left to fester, eventually many of them may not have a job as patients are very clear that they can find another office for treatment. Unfortunately, by the time the doctor finds out, he would already have lost several good prospects, not to mention the impact on reputation. But then again maybe they don't need the business at this time. Simple issues like updating patient info where I identified errors, to ensure accurate contact info etc. (what if an emergency were to occur?), was a hassle for these folks. Talking over and giving attitude to patients who are smart enough to wish to correct the records, confirms the lack of training and motivation of the staff. Delaying an insurance authorization for three weeks, (possibly in retaliation), also added to the hardship. A frowning receptionist with little demonstrable people skills, and limited training, seemed to go unnoticed by management. And office management seemed clueless to the incompetence that causes unnecessary pain, frustration and ill will at the patient level along with loss of business. Even leaving a review on the practice website got no result. Gave up on trying to wade through the crap and will seek a treatment in an office where the patient doesn't need to face such hostility & incompetence before even managing to see the doctor. Looking at some of the low star ratings going back over a year, with such behaviors persisting, seems to confirm the pattern of incompetence, apparently also ignoring constructive criticism. Do not come here! THE OFFICE STAFF IS INCOMPETENT. They lack everything from basic professionalism all the way to just knowing how to fucking smile. They lost my disability forms and kept telling me to wait for a call. They dicked me around for a month before these idiots realized they'd lost my paperwork and chart! It's appalling how disorganized they are. Unfortunately, this reflects back onto the doctor. Despite the fact that he's great, these pencil pushing desk gerks ruin everything. What good is it that's he's a good doctor if your office staff are a bunch of dumb asses? Not a good look.... I'm very upset that they just simply don't care about how this affects the patient and their life. They are careless because it's not THEY'RE fridge that will go empty. Or THEY'RE bills that go unpaid. I only gave this place another chance because the office manager promised to rectify getting off to a bad start. Wow. What bullshit! I went to see Dr. Wassef for some issues with my knee (ACL and meniscus issues). He was extremely knowledgeable and attentive, genuinely listened, and worked with me to provide a short term and long term plan, which can be hard to find with physicians. I could not have asked for more, and highly recommend him to anybody that is having any orthopedic issues. read more

The Dr. is very personable. Very patient. But my biggest issue is the wait time. My first visit wait time was 45 min, my second 1hr and 15min, my 3rd and last, was 2hrs. I didn't leave because I needed something signed. Otherwise I would have bailed. A poor old woman was there even longer than me, a woman in a walker, and a family were being asked to re schedule even after sitting there for 2 plus hours. Absolutely ridiculous. His support staff (secretaries and glorified nurses) were rude and tried to shift the blame. But his practice were the losers who caused the problem. You're going to force a lady in a walker to choose to reschedule and shuffle back in pain to her car or sit for more than the 2 1/2 hours? All because it looks like you consistently over book and have your insincere secretary tell her, "There are people in front so you can sit down and wait or you can reschedule." Will never go again. Like I said, good Dr. it is his practice of over booking and unprofessional waiting times I have an issue with. It is a shame. read more
