Christy Creme was out of our way; but we had heard good things about the ice cream here. So we made the trek to the north side of Council Bluffs. Having a bit of appetite, we ordered the Onion Rings -- they were delicious! Unlike some places, they use real onion slices. My only issue was that they provided ketchup instead of fry sauce. Ice cream flavor of the day was Lime ‍. That was unusual enough to grab my attention and I like tartness. Accordingly, I got a medium cone of Lime twisted with vanilla. Very tasty! I just wish they would have piled a bit more ice cream on that cone. My wife got an ice cream sandwich. She let it thaw while we devoured the onion rings and it was very good. read more

A charming little place with a great neighborhood and community vibe. Service was prompt despite how busy it was and the rotating sherbet variety kept things interesting in addition to it being tasty and refreshing. This is a classic little ice cream and burger shop run by friendly people. Their soft serve is so good, and their fries are always hot and fresh. They offer fun specialty sundaes for holidays like Mother's Day, 4th of July etc. No veggie options other than fries and onion rings if you're looking for hot food, but I wouldn't generally expect it from such a small mom and pop shop anyway. Only drawback for me is that they serve Pepsi products, oh well. Also, the parking lot is pretty small and they get busy on nice days, so plan ahead. The location, if you've never been, is a little bit "blink-and-you'll-miss-it". But Christy Creme is certainly worth the trip if you're in the mood for some good ice cream. read more

If you want a GREAT Mom and Pop ice cream place this is it! LOVE their sherbets - one new flavor daily - check out the calendar on their website to make sure you get your favorite flavor. These folks are community minded and are always finding ways to host events and give back. It's just who they are and how they are. Only thing I don't like is when they close for the winter!!! We usually make it to Christy Creme a few times a summer. The ice cream is really good and they always have an interesting sherbet flavor of the day. I agree with other posters who say the service is fast and friendly. If I could change one thing it would be the containers they put the ice cream in. The last time I got my children small cups I could barely get the lids off and when I did it was a bit of a mess. The lids are too deep and the container is too shallow. Just have napkins at the ready. I look forward to going back soon and maybe trying out their food. We always have a nice time when we stop by. read more

4 stars for the French fries alone, this place makes the most perfectly crispy crinkle cut fries I've ever had, they are delicious. I grew up with Christy Creme, so when I was in council bluffs visiting family last week I took the opportunity to stop by and have my favorite meal from them, small vanilla cone, French fries and fried chicken sandwich. Christy Creme has great ice cream and does a special flavor every day, it was BlackBerry when I was there. The sandwiches and burgers are also super tasty. It gets busy, but the lines move pretty fast, and the people that work the counter are very friendly. Definitely worth the trip. read more

I haven't lived in Council Bluffs since 1996, but when I do go back for a visit, I HAVE to go to Christy Creme. There's no getting around it; it must happen. In fact, I try not to visit between November and February due solely to the fact that Christy Creme is closed during those months. I grew up on their hamburgers, fries, malts, sherbert of the day and ice cream sandwiches. Nothing beats there food and ice cream. I often dream of eating there so it's a painful reminder to wake up and realize I'm 1,300 miles away.... If you live nearby, please do yourself a favor and stop in. If not for yourself, do it for me, who is not so lucky as to live close by. P.S. Please do not ever close!! It's terrible enough when you do during the winter months. read more

Why isn't there a railing on their patio? You have a four foot drop off the concrete patio onto a sidewalk. Safety should be first. When you have ice cream, you have kids around. It's hard to enjoy your ice cream when you have to make sure your kid doesn't go near the edge...which they need to do in order to walk around the table. A true local gem! Christy Creme is quickly becoming a new summer tradition for my family. The soft serve ice cream and sherbet are so good! My favorite is the chocolate and strawberry soft serve. The pineapple and blueberry sherbet are also great. They have a different homemade sherbet flavor everyday. We've grabbed lunch a few times as well and the food is also good. I recommend the pork tenderloin sandwich, fries, burgers and the southern fried chicken sandwich which comes with a homemade bearnaise sauce. Last, but not least, Christy Creme is cheap! An ol' neighborhood favorite, definitely one of the bright spots of Council Bluffs. Christy Creme has been around for a while, and within the past 10 years or so an indoor seating addition was added on. As far as food goes, the tenderloins are a must. Also, the fries are always fantastic - they are the best fries out there, if you ask me; they're always warm with grease and cooked to golden perfection. My very favorite place!!! It's a staple and has been around forever and is always just as good. The burgers are amazing and so are the fries! I love that the sherbet rotates so I can always try a different one. The service is fast and friendly. The parking lot is small but there is usually street parking. I read the reviews here and decided to stop. Its summer, there's roadwork and trees in full bloom. I missed this place. Catching my wayward travel, I circled back and was glad I did. Parking is tight, but people move through quickly. I ordered a shake and my wife got a cone. They both were delivered cheerfully and quickly. The shake was collapse the straw thick and yummy. My wife assured me the ice cream cone was equally delicious. I had, however, made a rookie mistake. I failed to order the flavor of the day. I had a nice conversation with a woman who I assume was one of the owners. I asked about what really stands out about the place. She indicated that the flavor of the day was just one of the highlights. She shared a brief history of the establishment, which I was grateful to listen. She can tell a great story! Christy Creme is a great Mom and Pap ice cream joint with great food. Christy Creme has been there probably my whole life. I remember my parents taking me there nearly 20 years ago. Their malts are okay and could use more malt powder, but that may be a personal preference. And their food is good but WAY over priced, which has kept me away for a while now. A hamburger, fries, and a pop for nearly $7? Come on. The main reason I haven't been a regular is because of the food prices. But I catch myself going back for ice cream every couple months or so. I have heard so much about this place, so when I found myself driving by I had to stop in. First off, I am really not an ice cream person, so maybe I will come back with a date for this treat which everybody seems to love. I got the Grilled Chicken Club (with Cheese and Bacon) and fires which were fine, but a little on the pricey side, so I will wait to really judge them on their desserts. Christy Creme is the stuff of legends in Council Bluffs, when we used to cruise Broadway in high school it was the far end of the line for us west enders. It's been through some generational changes lately but it has always been a solid choice for a burger and fries. Today I had to be back in the old stomping grounds so I started with lunch at the Christy Creme. I had a regular cheeseburger and a chocolate shake and believe me when I say it was Oh So Fine!!! The burger was perfectly cooked, beefy, cheesy and mymymy, chocolate shake was thick to the point you almost needed a spoon! Recent additions to the original drive-in concept included outdoor tables that were in the shade and provided an opportunity to relax, enjoy a piece of the past, and watch traffic on North Broadway.
