Christy's Department Store on Tybee Island, Georgia is everything you expect a little beach shop to be. There are plenty of Tybee Island souvenirs. You will find a wide range of beach needs as well as some really cute beach decorations for your home. They have a really great selection of T-Shirts. They have a lot of different beautiful home décors, clothes, bags, wind chimes, and more. The store is clean and nicely laid out. The staff is very outgoing and friendly. I've been here a couple times on my last two trips to Tybee. There's a handful of spots on this little strip and many of them have similar or exactly the same items. I found that the prices tend to mostly be the same across the board. Christy's has a particularly large selections and while they have all the beach stuff and t-shirts, they also have a decent sized home decor section. The prices on beach chairs and such is high because of supply and demand but if you're looking at the decor stuff it's very reasonable. The first year, we bought one of those metal compass rose wall hangings (I know they're everywhere) to put outside at home. I was surprised that they weren't charging more for it based on being a tourist shop at the beach and have actually found the same item for more at places that are off the beaten path. I guess I didn't pay attention to any signs at the door because I took some pictures for y'all. Hopefully I don't get arrested. read more

We stopped into this store to buy my son some new water shoes. Being black in this day and age, I am aware of my surroundings. I noticed everywhere we went in the store an employee followed us and when I asked her why, she ignored me. Told the owner to cancel the sale and he threw me out. Racism has no place. I stood on the public sidewalk in the rain for about an hour telling people not to shop in the store because of what happened. They called the police on me, but as I explained to the officers, I wasn't breaking the law and was exercising my 1st amendment rights. The officers were very nice and agreed I wasn't doing anything wrong. They asked how this could be resolved and I said with an apology. The owner tried to get me to go back into the store, but I refused and he finally came out and gave me a half heart apology. read more

Extremely bratty and rude girl at checkout totally ruined my experience in their store. Purchased a sticker and she made a nasty comment before I could cancel the sale of the two items we purchased. The woman who I assume is an owner or manager was if full a support of this girls behavior so I'm sure getting a refund or canceling the sale would have been a mess. I realize most stores are pretty similar around here and honestly most of their things are too. Spend your money elsewhere or go find cuter things in Savannah. That behavior doesn't deserve the business. read more

I saw one of these specialty shirts and wanted one. By the time we got done with other stores they were already closed so we came back today. Walked in and there were about 5 store employees at the door and NOT ONE OF THEM greeted my wife or I. Some of their prices were high with their specialty logo but basic souvenir t shirts were typical. Then I had to go towards the front to get to the next aisle, I overheard 2 of the employees talking about people that were outside in the sidewalk. Which happened to be a black man and woman with the Humane Society of the United States talking to people. I've read previous reviews that mentioned they would follow you more closely and I could definitely see where that could happen. We bought a magnet but will not be going back to this place if we come back to visit Tybee Island. read more

While at Tybee Island, we had do a souvenir shop...that is part of going to the BEACH...brings back tons of memories for me as a child..My family was a typical 3 kids, daddy works and mommy says home family and a family vacation to the coast every summer..I was one of the lucky ones... We walked into the souvenir shop located a 1/2 click from the ocean front. Inside was your normal fare...postcards, keychains, ashtrays, tshirts, floats and skid boards..sandals and towels..nothing different..had to grab a box of Tybee Island Salt Water Taffy..another trademark of going to the BEACH..am I right??? They were having some late in the summer clearance sales...looking for a Hermit Crab..my daughter gets one every time our feets touch sandy while on the coast...but they were out..When at Tybee...visit Christy's...you got to take back a souvenir of your visit...my refrigerator is loaded with my magnet memories... read more

These people are not autism friendly!!!! Very rude !!! My whole family walked in with our mask on except my son. He is 14 and has sensory issues. The lady said he needed a mask. I informed her that he has sensory issues and cannot wear a mask. We have been here two days and NO ONE else turned us away. She said "that's to bad. He is required to wear a mask" "I said if he doesn't we need to leave?" She said "absolutely". I understand the need to be safe. Being from Hilton Head Island, I've been at this store a few times over the years when I go to Tybee for something to do. I've never been very impressed with the store, and this last visit will probably be my last. It looks like it might be a pretty cool shop from the outside, but when you go inside the experience isn't cool at all. You're immediately greeted with signs that say "No Photos" as if you're going to take away from their profits via pictures. Thats ridiculous, honestly. However, the staff are not friendly at all. They won't welcome you to the shop, they won't ask if you need any help. In fact, all the staff will do is follow you around the store or watch closely from a distance. There is nothing so unique or valuable at this store to justify the experience of being monitored so intently from the staff during your time in their establishment. Additionally, the store is not the cleanest. Many items are layered in dust, the shelves often have dust on them and the floors aren't very clean. Every store needs to maintain their facilities and cleaning is a part of that maintenance that isn't happening here. Overall, I'm not coming back to their store. I've been there several times and I've never really been all too impressed by it. I don't see any value creation from me patronizing them, so I won't be recommending them to my friends or family. read more

We came to visit Tybee Island today (10/17/18). Saw the lighthouse and ask where we could find this unique sticker we saw in Savannah. The people at lighthouse told us to go to Christy's to find this unique sticker. Drove over to Christy's and arrived by 4:10 PM only to find out it was already closed. No sign of why they closed early. All the shops around it were still opened and told us they thought it closed at 5:00. We were not impressed. All we can say is they lost a sale. Great place to buy souvenirs. Family owned. Many of the other places are franchise and just cheap junk. You can get t-shirts 4 for $20.00 or $6.99 each. Very affordable. Best place in Tybee Island to get affordable souvenirs. We make a trip here every summer while we are here. My husband bought a huge gas pump style gumball machine and got a great deal on it. This has always been our favorite ocean decor store on the GA coast, & we have purchased many items here. However, due to their new mask requirement, we are now boycotting them & they have lost our business. They are the only store on the beach walk that instituted this requirement. First off, the people that work here are disgustingly rude. My sister bought a inner tube to use in the ocean from a store up the street but was really struggling to blow it up. We went into this store and my asked the sales associate at the front desk (tall woman, medium length brown hair, awfully horrible) if they possibly had something to help us blow up our inner tube. The woman claimed "they didn't have that machine running today." Not realizing my sister and I were together, after my sister turned around to walk away the woman muttered to another sales woman "Ya right, like I'm gonna let her use our equipment to blow up a inner tube she didn't buy here." Are you kidding me?! So since you're not going to benefit from it you can't help us out? What a great way to think. Talk about "southern charm", she sure doesn't have it. I turned around and told my family we will NEVER buy ANYTHING from this store. What an awful human. For lack of a better term, screw this store and that woman. Figure out how to be kind even if it doesn't benefit you. I will spend my money ANYWHERE else and would advise everyone to do the same. read more
