The Hygienist was friendly and helped me relax as a stressed out patient who does not like going to the dentist. I felt they made every effort to be thorough and not rush through things while ensuring that every detail was accounted for. I've had dentists that are obviously making stuff up like an untrustworthy auto shop trying to sell you stuff you don't need. I never felt that pressure here. I already have my next appointment set up and will go in with a lot less stress knowing I will be treated with respect for my time and concerns while taking good care of my dental needs.

I had cavity that was drilled out improperly at my previous dentist and it was causing all sorts of issues for me. That was 7 years ago and I haven't seen anyone else since. I couldn't be happier with how thorough, professional, and friendly Dr. Futrell and his entire staff have been. He doesn't make you feel rushed even though you know he's very busy. I would recommend him to anyone. If you're searching for a dentist this is who you need.

Dr. Lewis explains every step of each treatment phase thoroughly, and has been so kind and gentle when treating my anxious kiddos. His techs are top notch and stay with your child, engaging them and keeping the atmosphere happy and relaxed. I've never waited long for an appointment, we are usually in and out in under an hour but we never feel rushed. And the finished product is amazing, beautiful smiles that are worth every penny! As someone who was traumatized at a young age by my local pediatric dentist, I understand all too…read morewell the significance of having a dentist who goes above and beyond for children when it comes to something important, like teeth. We went to another family dentistry across town (they were also exceptional in treatment of my kids, I still go there for myself) but since they caught a cavity they sent us to White & Johnson, knowing they could handle my oldest kids anxiety. I am beyond grateful to have such an amazing staff to work with my kids. The layout is efficient, the teamwork that I have witnessed during our appointments is flawless , and bedside manner is second to none- they sing songs, talk to the kids throughout cleanings to explain what they're doing and reassure them, and are completely transparent about everything upfront with parents. The only crying my anxiety-prone child did was in the wilmington office, as they tried to get the gas mask on him (he ultimately had to have his cavity taken care of at the hospital under general anesthesia) but even having gone through that, he is not at all scared of coming back. THAT is how I know they're doing everything right. While we do spend a bit more money here than we did elsewhere, but it certainly shows in the quality of care our kids receive.

I'd like to state prior to coming here my son had been to a pediatric dentist before had some work done and never had to go under anesthesia. He had 3 small cavities that needed to be filled so I booked a appointment, during the appointment I had to sit outside the room (my son is 5) and watch in the distance, the dentist claimed she counted continue because he kept sticking his hands in his mouth. She then referred us to a dentist to have him go under anesthesia all the way in Raleigh. I found another pediatric dentist in New Bern and my son like always had no problems getting his cavities filled without anesthesia. From what I got at that office is that the dentist prefers to take your money for cleanings and does not like to do any other dental work because most likely you will just get referred out.

What an experience. For clarification, I visited their clinic twice, once for a painful broken…read moretooth, and later for a crown. When I went in for the broken tooth, the hygienist was fantastic, she's the only reason I am offering two stars, instead of a one-star review. When I went in for my crown, I don't know what the dentist (Dr Sipes) did but it was 100x more painful than the root canal (I got elsewhere). I begged the dentist to stop doing whatever was causing so much pain, but she said she would not. I was sobbing and felt victimized. There was nothing I could do. Once the crown was done, she said something along the lines of an apology. In truth, I was too traumatized to hear her words, I just wanted to go home. I paid my bill and left. Weeks later I get a call asking me to schedule a cleaning and other things. I told them I was not interested in coming back to their clinic because I had such a terrible experience. Today I get a bill in the mail, and a text message telling me that I owe them more money. Saying that the payment I made when I left the clinic after my crown "may have been off a little after insurance processed the claim". Seems fishy to me. I hope other patients have a better experience than I did.

My new dentist said it is due to improper fitting and now I have to get new ones that insurance will not cover because they only cover one within a five year period per tooth. When I contacted family dental, they said they have a two year warranty on their crowns, but only to cover broken or cracked crowns not decay underneath caused by ill fitting crowns. So now I have to pay completely out of pocket to get new crowns that fit correctly and that should have fit in the first place. Mind you I've had issues and tooth pain since getting these crowns and they always said there were no issues. Anyway save your money and go to a dentist who has good reviews on crowns! Don't double pay like I'm having to do! Again very nice people in office but crappy work!

I still do not fully understand what happened during my son's appointment, and as a parent, that experience was very upsetting. However, I do appreciate that they did not ignore it and that they took the time to contact me and address it. I also brought my other son in today, and his visit was back to the kind of experience we have usually had here: smooth, kind, professional, and positive. That matters, because prior to the bad experience with my first son, my other children had always done well here and actually liked coming. So while I am still bothered by what happened and still believe it needed to be taken seriously, I also want to be fair. The office apologized, they are trying to fix it, and today's appointment showed me that the poor experience may not represent the practice as a whole. I appreciate them taking responsibility and working to regain trust.
