Great lobster roll, full of sweet and succulent lobster meat. Although it wasn't on the menu I got a Connecticut roll which basically is warm lobster drizzled with melted butter. They were very happy to make it for me and not at all annoyed that I wanted something not on their menu. It came with tater tots and a delicious Cole slaw. I highly recommend you seeing where this food truck is going to be and pay them a visit. I'm excited to go back and try some of their other menu items. I'm not much of a seafood eater, so when I saw this was the only food truck available outside of a bar with no food I was worried! But, all of those worries disappeared once I read the menu! With a name like Chubby Mermaid I had to check this place out! I tried this food truck, which is not a big truck at all, on a very busy Friday night concert in Plantation. I saw that they had good reviews, and the line was not too long so my friend and I decided to check it out. They don't have a huge menu, which is probably a good thing, because it allows them to specialize in what they do have. I guess they are known for their lobster rolls but by the time we arrived they were already out of those, (less than one hour into the event.). It was nice that they kept announcing it so people wouldn't wait in line and then realize they were out if they had their heart set on lobster rolls. We had a short wait in line about 5-8 minutes. I decided to try a cheesesteak sandwich that came with tater tots. My friend ordered the tacos, and we also got two orders of chicken tenders/tots for kids. The food came out rather quickly, and the portions were huge. I thought $12 for a cheesesteak was a bit pricey, but when I saw how big it was I changed my mind. It was full of meat, which was delicious, and the bread was fresh and soft. It also came with many crispy tots. I could not finish the whole sandwich; I shared it with a friend. My other friend had ordered the tacos. The taco size was generous, ingredients were fresh, the shrimp was well seasoned without an over abundance of salt. The batter on the shrimp held just the perfect amount of crunch to not dry out the shrimp and it was all wrapped together in a warm flour tortilla for a perfect taco experience. It came with two tacos so you could enjoy again. All our food really hit the spot! Overall I was pretty impressed with the quality of the food & service of the Chubby Mermaid. SUN Credit Union was having an International Credit Union Day Celebration and the Chubby Mermaid was recommended by some employees to cater the event. Because of the employee referral, we knew that Cynthia was going to be good, however, Cynthia FAR EXCEEDED our expectations! We had about 120 people attend the event. Cynthia was an absolute pleasure to work with, not only were they on time to set up, but she had food ready when people started showing up early. We offered a fixed menu of burgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, tater tots, and coleslaw. All of the food was DELICIOUS, and our members were raving. I had a pulled pork sandwich with tater tots and coleslaw, it was amazing! The food truck really was a great addition to the event. I saw the older man prepping raw food with no gloves, he then stepped outside, touched something in the back of his Jeep, touched the door, went back to touching and prepping food, never washed his hands, never wore gloves. I went to an outside concert last night in Sunrise. There were a lot of food trucks that looked awesome and then I spotted one I had never seen before-The Chubby Mermaid. One look at the menu and I knew immediately what I would order-The Poke Plate. It was absolutely delicious. I even devoured the cabbage which I am usually not a fan of. They also included avocado tortilla chips!! OMG!! I wish I could get some more of everything right now. Everyone associated with the truck were super nice and friendly as well. I went to the Flamingo Gardens Food Truck event last night and was pleasantly surprised by the Chubby Mermaid food truck! I ordered the Mermaid Roll which was a delicious toasted roll with a layer of tasty coleslaw and then loaded with a generous portion of lobster, crab and shrimp! It was fresh and flavorful! The food truck was very clean, the service was friendly and efficient! All the food they were serving looked amazing! They have conch fritters, shrimp tacos, poke bowls, tater tots and even a steak sandwich that I heard a customer raving about! Give them a try...you will not be disappointed! I Especially liked the Shrimp po-boy with the loaded tots, we also ordered the cheese steak and fish boat, everything was delicious and we got our food very fast. First , how can you not love a Food Truck named The Chubby Mermaid !! Super cute art work and super clean truck ( I know, he let me take a quick look inside ! ) I love Florida keys type fish shacks and this is as close as we'll ever get to one in a food truck. Menu was outstanding, with everything from shrimp and fish Po Boys and Tacos to Conch Fritters. Portions were generous, prices were fair and the food was awesome.
