I don't think I have seen more beautiful blooms anywhere else! I love that it was heavily focused on local small businesses, farmers, and FOOD. We stopped for a few bites along the way and were blown away every time. So good. This market is huge and stretches for a few blocks, so be sure to come early and give yourself ample time to explore. Also, with it being in Ballard, there are a ton of cool, hipster shops to browse while you're in the area.

Subsequently, I lost some interest since I don't live nearby. While I was in Ballard on a recent Sunday, I rushed to the market to see if it was still open. Officially, it was not; they closed at 2pm. But they were still packing up. I believe they are not allowed to sell after the official closing time; I asked one vendor, they declined. The staff wants the streets to reopen as soon as possible. As I walked the two blocks, several vendors still have some items on display on their tables. With a bit of wink, wink, accidentally dropping cash on the table and accidentally taking things off the table, I walked away with goodies. I won't say what I bought to avoid anyone getting into trouble. Street parking was easy enough nearby on a Sunday.

During our visit, there was a few fresh produce products available for purchase such as nectarines, peaches, plums, zucchini, watermelon and corn. Packaged items such as honey and chips were also available. The Hot Sauce Festival was the main attraction of the day so there was a food truck on-site as well. Blistering hot pepper starts of several different varieties could also be purchased for those with green thumbs. Unfortunately, that isn't me. After sampling several fiery hot sauces and marinades it was refreshing to be able to order and consume an ice-cold craft beer from McMillin Farms brewery on-site. Red and white wine is available for those who do not care for beer. Beers were pricey at $8.75 each; however, keep in mind that you are supporting a small and local business. And the location lends itself well to the festival. That and events are what drive this place, so the farming is almost a secondary business.

I've seen Don Hopwood performing for years in the Northwest, first seeing his performances in Bellingham, WA. I can honestly say I have never seen a guitar player like Don before. His hands seem to effortlessly "spider" their way all over the fingerboard, creating a sound that is incredibly unique and beautiful. He has the ability to paint a picture with his music using his all encompassing harmonies and thoughtful melodies. His voice has a wonderful tenor quality to mix with his guitar playing. They perfectly work together. So beautiful! My instructions with Don have been so much fun, and very helpful. I've learned a ton of songs too(I love me some Neil Young, Wood Brothers, Dave Mathews and more). I've learned a ton of the theory behind chords, and how to mix them with melodies. Don is such a positive person to be around, and a wonderful person to learn from. I highly recommend Don as a teacher. There is a ton to learn from him.

These guys are great. Can't say enough about them. The instructors are all top notch, all seem to…read morereally enjoy teaching. They have been flexible when one of the kids is sick. It is more like family there, than going for a 30 minute lesson, and they really care about you making progress. They also teach in a way that starts with "what kind of music do you like? What are your favorite songs?" And then you start from there, learning things you care about until it all comes together. If that wasn't enough, you have the ensembles...Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Santana. What better way to learn than putting together a band for 10 weeks? But again, that isn't enough. How about pushing your comfort zone, and having you and your little band (and all the other little bands, etc.) perform at a local restaurant? Our whole family (5 of us) now takes lessons there, and definitely better than anywhere else I have been. I just wish they offered a family discount :)
