Weekday was pretty empty at opening.

Good and bad experience: Good - decent buffet for a kids pizza place, young cashier was very helpful and friendly. Bad - the management team didn't seem to know what was going on, kept barking orders at the cashier and I felt sorry for her. Several of the games that we tried to play or not working or not issuing tickets as they were supposed to. Had to keep trying to get staff to come over. Two managers at this location, one male and one female, seemed to leave most of the work up to the cashier. Very hands-off approach, which was disheartening.

First time here since I was a kid

The one my parents installed in their backyard in the 90s lasted three kids and over 20 years with regular maintenance. When it came time for us to look into a swingset for our daughters as tempted as I was by the kidcraft DIY ones at Costco, we ended up going with Rainbow simply because the kidcraft wooden playhouse in our backyard has been up for maybe three years and LOOKS it. We were a bit worried about how something we DIY might hold up so we figured we'd pay a bit more and go this route. First of all these things are expensive. There is no way around that. The website always says things are heavily discounted, like it never changes cost and is always on sale, so I think it's just the way they try to get you to pull the trigger - like OH it's not actually 7grand, it's ONLY 2 grand. I'd prefer they just be a bit more transparent on that, but I appreciate that it could be more. Once we were sold on the unit we wanted we decided to make the trek out to Olathe to see it in person and make sure we knew what we were doing. It was April, and honestly we were wanting to move quickly so we could have one installed early in the summer season. There is conflicting information on when they are open online - in some places it says they have hours on Sundays and on others it says they are closed. We couldn't figure out what the case was so we went there and they were closed to the public. The door was open and we thought oh, maybe we could just speak with a sales person but nobody was around so we just went home and ordered the one we wanted online. Now, their website is a bit dated but it worked okay. It was a little scary placing an order this big in this way, but we had no other time to get out to Olathe in the near future and decided it was worth it. Again, IRL would have been better because I would have asked about small add ons like a pirate telescope and baby swing, neither of which you can just add on via their website. At any rate, we made the purchase and a rep from their team was in contact with me by Monday morning which really impressed me! She told me the timeframe we'd be looking at and what to expect next. As the timeframe of 3-5 week delivery creeped into the three week mark I emailed asking about next steps and didn't hear back for several days. The following week I emailed again, and again no response so I called. Calling prompted an email and we got it scheduled and ultimately installed pretty quickly at that point. The installer was SO NICE and so fast. It was insanely impressive how they get these things up quickly. The main thing here is that these are impressive, well made, playsets. The folks working here are very kind, and thoughtful. Sometimes things just move slower than you might want, or you might have to reach out to get questions answered. Would I recommend Rainbow? For sure! Could they turn this into a 5 star experience with a few small tweaks? Absolutely. If you're not me though, learn from me, and go on a Saturday, talk to the sales people and I'm sure you'll have a smoother experience.

This area is not the greatest for littler kids when the older ones are playing though, as balls are flying hard and fast. My youngest's favorite section is the slide that you have to ride a little cart down (roller slide). They have a type of bumper cars that require extra money to ride, but each time we have went, multiple bikes/cars were not working or stopped mid-turn. There are claw games and air hockey that costs extra as well. Each person, parents included, are not allowed to wear shoes inside, but need their branded socks. I do like this for the germ factor, but if you aren't prepared (I was wearing flip flops), the extra sock charge is there. For pricing, it is expensive. For a couple hours, it's a lot, but the benefit there is that they allow you to leave and come back that same day, so if you are making a day out of it, it makes more sense. For working parents, I couldn't get a wifi signal, but I did see a few adults with laptops, so I'm guessing they used their phones for signal. If noise bothers you, this place isn't for you...it's LOUD. I'm used to kids playing and having fun, but the walls seem to bounce the sound more than normal. When kids went in the light room and screamed, it echoed through the entire place. As far as food, there are only snacks. They have a few drinks and snack items to purchase, but if you are looking for a meal, you will have to leave and come back. The employees were nice, but the amount of times I saw a kid get hurt or do things like bring a bike to the top level and try riding it, there didn't have anyone watching to make sure kids were being safe. I was on edge the majority if the time watching kids (not mine) that were on the verge of getting hurt or go back to their parent in tears. To me, this place is good if you are in their with your kiss and plan on spending a long time there...or special occasions.

At BRKTHROUGH, you compete in challenge rooms (there are 40 of them, although a couple were unavailable during our visit) - they last a minute or longer, and are categorized as Physical (requiring speed, agility, coordination, etc), Mental (brainpower, trivia, memory, and puzzle-solving), or Skill (precision, dexterity, patience). The descriptors above came from the BRKTHROUGH website, but I can confirm that they are descriptive of the challenges. The room type/difficulty is shown on a triangle, so they are often a combination of two items (for example, mostly physical with some skill-based components). Every room is scored based on your completion (or lack, thereof) out of 100 points. You can redo rooms as often as you like, keeping the highest score. Your team has an RFID wristband to enter the rooms. Your goal is to earn as many points as you can during the time period you paid for (we did 2 hours). Not only do you try to get your best score, there is a leaderboard to show how you are doing against the other teams in the building. You can earn a prize if you obtain a certain minimum score, or win against the other groups. Other than the boys arguing over strategies, we had a good time. Even with young kids, we were able to complete a lot of the rooms. There are plenty of rooms that could be completed by those with physical limitations, but obviously not all of them. We had a good time and the time flew by. There is also a bar and restaurant and a few games to play after your time is up. Dare I say, kind of fun? We went to a kids birthday party out this way, and when I say out this way, I mean it's a HAUL from where we are in the city. Try to keep track of the beige and uniform buildings as you go by, it feels like you're in an infinite loop of personality-less structures. Eventually the sameness will blend into more sameness, although this will have a sign for Urban Air and you've made it. It's almost a throwback to the Discovery Zone birthday parties of the 90's from the outside, and from the inside for that matter. It wasn't too busy when we were there on a Saturday morning, and my kids really had to soak it all in and get their nerves out to start. Once they found the smaller kids area of tunnels and ball pits, the ice broke and the fun flowed out. There's VR machines, bumper cars, trampolines, more intense trampolines, gymnastics style trampolines, and even some sort of fun sky swing thing that looks like it's for much older kids but isn't. Kind of hard to get bored in here if you're between 4-12, I'd imagine. On the birthday front, they had pizza, a private room, and someone dedicated to running the party who did a nice job. I won't be rushing back, but I will file this away for those late January/February days when the shine of winter is off and you're desperate to get the kids out of the house. Fun overall!

This one is clean, the folks working friendly and mostly helpful, and it doesn't stink like some others - I'm looking at you Kids Empire. For around $20 my five year old can run, jump, and get her wiggles out for HOURS. That's money well spent in my book. We recently had my daughter's birthday party here and I have to add that the team working did a wonderful job. The table was set up, plates, and waters provided, and it was an easy place to gather with her classmates. I've been recommending parties here ever since. The only reason I'm giving 4 and not 5 stars is just because the restrooms could use some TLC. Get that fixed and this is a 5 star children's attraction for sure.
