If you have a child under the age of 7 you'll find that they will adore Kid's Empire. It's a good sized play area geared towards the pre-k and elementary aged kiddos. I'm going to break this one down into what I liked and what I didn't like from a parent's perspective: The good: * If you're a kid the play area would be magical. It's big, has tons to explore (think tubes, slides, jungle gym), and even has some arcade games, and mechanical cars to drive. So fun! * Everything is soft, so it feels fairly safe if your kid is I'd say 4+ * They have snacks for purchase The not so great: * I know it's par for the course in these places but the bright lights and smell of hundreds of kids passing through is a lot for me - probably nothing that can be helped, but the minute I walked in I was transported via scent memory back to places like this that existed when I was a kid. Something I had totally forgotten about! * The price is pretty steep in my opinion (close to $20 for your kid) to play. It is unlimited time so you could stay all day if you wanted, but after about an hour and a half, maybe two hours I hit my stimulus limit as a parent. * Everything costs extra here. So, if your kid wants to ride the cars, you've gotta load a card. There is plenty to do without loading up a card, and I've found you can get away with $5-$10 and your kid will be satisfied but it bulks up the cost of this place pretty fast depending on how many kids you have, and how long you plan on staying. * I wish they'd stamp or tag every parent with every kid like they do at chuck-e cheese to make sure you exit with who you came in with. I wasn't here on a super busy day but I lost track of my kid several times as it's a big play area and it's not adult friendly to climb up to find or rescue your child if they get scared or lost up there. It would give me some peace of mind to know there's some extra security in line. Lastly I'll say that in summary my child loves this place and we will likely return at some point. As a parent I just don't find it to be the most fun place for us both. For the money I'd rather take her to Science City, or somewhere that's a bit easier for me to keep an eye on her, and maybe has a more pleasant environment for adults.

Great indoor kids play place with tons of area to get the wiggles out. There is a large seating area in the middle for adults to view their kids from a far, or to enjoy a snack and rest your legs. The tunnels/climb through area is large enough for adults to venture in with their kids. Loved wandering around and exploring together. The slides were pretty fast. There's a small black light disco room with upbeat music to get your dance on. Party rooms available for rental as needed. Appreciated the separate toddler only area so littles don't get trampled. It was also nice that you could leave the building and return the same day without paying again. The gates at front door lock and need to be manually pushed by employee to open, which is nice security feature. The only downside, there was only one employee working. So I had to wait several times when entering, returning and asking a question. There's also no wifi, so adults planing to get work done while their kids play will be sorely disappointed. They also only accept credit cards which is a pain for those not wishing to use cards and needing to pay multiple times for entrance, snacks, add ons, ect.

Now the treehouse was a little bit dirty, but I think it's probably the time of the year and that it was really damp and wet during our visit. There's a place for you to have lunch. Dare I say, kind of fun? We went to a kids birthday party out this way, and when I say out this way, I mean it's a HAUL from where we are in the city. Try to keep track of the beige and uniform buildings as you go by, it feels like you're in an infinite loop of personality-less structures. Eventually the sameness will blend into more sameness, although this will have a sign for Urban Air and you've made it. It's almost a throwback to the Discovery Zone birthday parties of the 90's from the outside, and from the inside for that matter. It wasn't too busy when we were there on a Saturday morning, and my kids really had to soak it all in and get their nerves out to start. Once they found the smaller kids area of tunnels and ball pits, the ice broke and the fun flowed out. There's VR machines, bumper cars, trampolines, more intense trampolines, gymnastics style trampolines, and even some sort of fun sky swing thing that looks like it's for much older kids but isn't. Kind of hard to get bored in here if you're between 4-12, I'd imagine. On the birthday front, they had pizza, a private room, and someone dedicated to running the party who did a nice job. I won't be rushing back, but I will file this away for those late January/February days when the shine of winter is off and you're desperate to get the kids out of the house. Fun overall!

Inspired Play Cafe always has nicer wooden Montessori type of toys and learning games. I have typically gone to the Merriam location as it is closer but they are just going to have this location remain open. The owner is very nice and welcoming and she is updating and always rotating items for it to remain fresh for clients. They also have new and cheaper monthly fee which is a great deal. It is a nice atmosphere but they do need to remember to keep the music playlist playing as it is nice to relax to. The only reason I gave this location a 4 was because when I first entered the play area it was a complete disaster. There were only 2 parents at the time but they never picked up after their kids and it was hard to find matching toy items as they were everywhere. This is not typical of the Merriam location so it's probably just an issue today. They might want to suggest to parents to pick up after their child once they leave a specific area. I ended up picking the place up because the parents left and then it was more obvious to my grandson and other kids that came what toys there were available in each area.

Better Staff, that seem to keep the place clean, and care about keeping it a fun/safe environment. At the Lenexa location, there is plenty of seating where you can keep an eye on your kiddos while they play if you want. Or you can go back into a little nook, and read a book, use your laptop (They have guest wifi) or watch TV on one of the TVs in that area. Highly recommend Urban Air in general, and furthermore recommend the Lenexa location over the Overland Park one. Pro Tip, if you live in the area, and go at least once a month, its so much better to just buy a monthly pass. You get a better deal than if you purchase 1 single night ticket. With the level of season pass we have, it comes with a slice of pizza every night, and a bag of popcorn. It makes it so much easier for me to take my kiddo, she can grab some food to tide her over until we get home to eat dinner and its fairly inexpensive for what you get.
