Husky, a smaller and caring agency, recently came into a very challenging situation with a frail very elderly couple, and despite their resistance to accepting outside care, Husky has completely won them over. Unlike some other care agencies that i've worked with,Husky not only comes in and provides a free consult with a care manager, they CONTINUE to have the managers monitor and communicate with the family and the healthcare team. Care managers Jennifer and Kris have been stellar in this way, and have found the most amazing caregiver, Michael, who visits them 2x weekly, each for 4 hours. They do it all, from driving the couple to errands and MD appts, to an outing at the lake, to meal prep, to light housekeeping, to personal care for our hospice patient. They are not the cheapest agency out there, but there is a real reason for this: quality caregivers, and a hands-on collaborative approach, My agency has no affiliation or relationship with Husky or any other agency, but i did feel it would be helpful for those who are seeking good safe care to give it a go. :)

Mom has her own apartment in the independent living section and my dad stayed in the locked memory care unit. Throughout the years, we have appreciated attentive care and good communication with staff for both parents. There have been multiple times where medical emergencies have come up requiring transfer to the hospital for higher level care, and every time the staff responded beautifully to get them the care they need and contacted us immediately to let us know what was going on. I am able to connect with director of the nursing services and even the executive director whenever I have questions or concerns, and we are always able to work collaboratively to achieve a mutually acceptable solution to the situation. The staff is sensitive to maintaining residents' dignity and autonomy wherever possible, however they also have firm boundaries in place when safety issues arise and require adjustment of the approach to things like medication management, mobility/ambulation, or maintenance of personal spaces.

She lives on one of the two memory care floors, and we have been very happy with the care she receives. Mom's apartment is cozy and bright, with tall ceilings, a ceiling fan, a large window, and her own bathroom. The communal space is flooded with natural light and includes a TV room, dining room, and a darling rooftop patio filled with flowers during the spring and summer months. There's even a piano tucked into the corner, and I've been lucky enough to witness residents sit down and play! We experienced a change in ownership last year, which resulted in quite a bit of management and staff turnover. It was a challenging time for everyone, but one thing that remained consistent was the focus on caring for and supporting my mom and the other residents. The current team is, hands down, the best we've experienced. An enormous thank you to all of them. There is a level of "independence" in the memory care program here that may or may not work for your loved one. It's a large community, and even within the smaller memory care sections, the staff-to-resident ratio is on the lower side. For our family, though, this works well. Mom is mobile and constantly on the move, and having the freedom to explore without being overly coddled suits her personality. The staff also take a gentle approach to caregiving. If a resident refuses care, they're good about giving them some space and trying again later. I've found this helps prevent agitation, and the residents generally seem happy and comfortable in the shared spaces. Memory care residents have daily activities with the activities coordinators and are often invited to the assisted living side for larger, community-wide activities. Extra staff are on hand for these events, and residents can return to their own space whenever they're ready, which is especially helpful for those who can become easily overwhelmed. They also put on an extra-special Thanksgiving celebration every year! We are so thankful for the level of care Mom receives, the friendly and inviting staff, and the beautiful historic building she gets to call home. And bonus points for the neighborhood! Finding long-term care for a loved one is an incredibly emotional and overwhelming process. My advice: explore your options, ask lots of questions, but also take a moment to observe how the staff interact with each other and whether the residents seem happy and comfortable. You'll know when you find the right place--and we sure did at Vineyard Park Queen Anne.

I was referred to With A Little Help by a friend of mine who is a hospice nurse. He actually gave me the names of three agencies, and I called them all. The first two had a corporate vibe, and sent me directly into a voicemail black hole. It was days before I heard back. When I called With A Little Help, within seconds, I was talking with Kacie, one of the owners, who was so kind and spent all of the time I needed talking with me about our situation and care needs. By the end of the phone call, we had a plan for an intake evaluation, and just a couple of days later, a new care team was in place...and just like that, the stress and worry that had been accumulating over many months lifted. This is just one example of the many, many I could share about the excellent care With A Little Help offers. They aren't a corporate-care behemoth. They are local, owner run, and some of the most caring people I've met in a long time. Kacie and Paul, the owners, worked with us to find the caregivers that are the best fit for our situation. The caregivers are highly skilled, professional, and compassionate. All of them have giant hearts. Some words that come to mind when talking about With A Little Help: Professional Flexible Kind Collaborative Communicative Compassionate Responsive Punctual Attuned For us, With a Little Help has been something of a miracle. The caregivers are first rate and have been there for a long time. They are so warm, funny personal, and observant. Each time I visit, I feel great leaving Mom in such caring hands. The house is modern yet cozy and homey. It couldn't be cleaner. It is in a quiet tree-lined street and has a backyard and side patio. If you want or need grief counseling after a family passing- get it on your own elsewhere…read more Counseling staff can't keep an appointment, repeatedly cancelling. The care for my dad was a mixed bag, some good and some mediocre. After my dad's passing, they told us we would have up to 1 year of bereavement counseling free through continuum. Sounds great, but problem is you can never get a first appointment to have access to individual and or group therapy. Have had three cancellations for a first appointment. I scheduled time off from work to make these appointments. If people can't get a first appointment that sticks then the proposed therapy is useless.

If I was in a position to choose a hospice for my loved one, I would not choose this company again…read more The first nurse we had, Christina, was so detached and unsupportive. Anytime we'd call, it felt like we were a burden. Mom had a bad fall. I reached out and asked for a call back. She said she would call, but did not. I had to call her after waiting so long. Mom was unconscious after that fall for 3 days, makes me so infuriated. We didn't want to switch hospices because we thought it would be too much of a hassle with mom in the condition she was in and having to switch out equipment. Looking back, we should have. After the fall, I moved mom in with me, and the nurse changed to Armie. One of the good things about that hospice is her. She genuinely cared and you could feel her sincerity. Eventually, we had to move her to an adult family home. The nurse switched to Pearl, and she was the only other good thing about this company. Mom began actively transitioning, and at one point, began aspirating. The caregiver called after hours. You'd think they would call back pretty quickly, but nope, I had to call in again and demand a nurse call. I would not recommend this hospice. Families deserve compassionate and responsive care during end-of-life moments, and this company simply did not deliver that
