Both staff and volunteers at this hospice center are true angels. My family is eternally indebted. The Gene & Irene Wockner Hospice Center is the only freestanding hospice center in King and Snohomish counties. The beautiful Cape Cod-style facility was designed to be as home-like as possible, consistent with safety, security and excellent medical care. The Center's 15 private patient rooms include sleeping spaces for visitors, a private bath with shower, TV and a wardrobe closet. Each room opens to an outdoor patio with a view of the park-like gardens. The gardens include a lush courtyard with a waterfall, a children's play area and walking paths through the rose and alpine gardens. Families and friends can visit at any time, and children are very welcome. The comfortable family rooms throughout the Center are furnished with sofas and chairs, TV, desks, and telephones. The main family room has a children's corner designed to offer little ones comfort and a place to play. Each wing also has a full kitchen, which allows families to cook special meals if they so choose. The Center is named for Gene and Irene Wockner, whose initial support provided the resources needed to research and plan for the Center. The Wockner family's generosity continues to provide for Evergreen Hospice Services.

After 2 cancellations due to staffing pushing the assessment out a week my loved one had a medical emergency that required immediate attention so we called Continuum Hospice and they came out that day and assessed our needs and were able to supply us with the equipment and care needed. With that being said, I would avoid Gentiva when looking for hospice care for your loved one. They simply don't have the staffing to provide the prompt care required for someone on hospice.

They also keep the family informed of resident's needs and medication changes. They ensure resident and family are comfortable. We are very lucky that our dog is able to be here. The room is cozy. There is a community kitchen. living room, playground, and large sitting area for families. A wonderful, stress free setting for a difficult time.

With all the Hospice Medicare fraud happening in the US today, $22 B, how is it possible to trust any company offering Hospice care to your loved ones.

They were careful with physical handling and very compassionate about what we were dealing with. I met with Erin, Kevin, Mary, Jervaise -- all so great - so caring and gentle.

My husband and I were in a bike accident when our tandem bike's front tire had a blowout and we hit…read morethe street hard. He escaped with minor injuries but unfortunately not me, I had to have pins inserted to hold my pelvis together, plus a total hip replacement. I also had a broken collarbone and 5 broken ribs. After 11 days at Harborview Medical Center we found Skyline thanks to recommendations from condo neighbors. We were amazed at the quality of care I received. I was at Skyline another 32 days. For the first ten days there I couldn't even get out of bed. But the Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists were outstanding in working with me, bit by bit, to start moving. It was complicated by my broken collarbone, so I could not use a walker. Holding a coffee cup was the maximum effort I could use my arm for. I also could only put 50% of my weight on my injured leg. That didn't stop them from finding ways to help me learn to get out of bed, then stand, then walk with a cane in a way that still protected my arm and leg. 3 weeks after the accident I still hadn't gotten out of bed. After 4 weeks I started to walk with the cane and the skills they provided. 5 weeks after the accident the doctor cleared me to use both arms and legs with no limitations, and the PTs and OTs quickly got me walking 50 feet one day, then 100 the next, and so on. 6 weeks from the accident and I was ready to go home, and able to walk so well that within just a few more days I could walk without the walker, using the skills I had learned. In addition to an absolutely fantastic rehab team that worked with me six days a week (on many days for two hour-long sessions), they provided me with caring nursing staff and a staff doctor who spent one hour with me on our first meeting -- who gets that anymore? -- and unhurried visits several times after that. Skyline also provided a private room, a very clean and pleasant environment, and meals that were far, far above the usual institutional standard. With fairly limited things to look forward to each day, it was comforting to know that there were meals coming that I was actually excited to have served to me. As I slowly got stronger I was able to walk on the wide carpeted hallways and then outdoors on the several terraces that overlook the city. The fourth floor one was particularly nice as it has an extensive flower garden. In my month-long stay I never encountered anything but competence and a caring attitude. I don't recommend having an accident like mine, but if you do you will find Skyline a terrific place to recover your health and confidence in yourself. It will long have a special place in my heart.

My husband had open-heart surgery in January at the University of Washington Medical Center and due to a diabetes-related wound complication, was admitted to the hospital for a second stay for initiation of wound-vac therapy. They sent us home with home-health nursing arrangements for changing the dressings. The hospital staff did not consult us about our preferences and made these arrangements for us, presenting them as the only option. Honestly, I was very concerned about what felt like a real violation of our privacy, and I did not want to have a nurse in our home. However, there really was no way to make the timing work and to secure arrangements in a wound-care clinic, so we reluctantly agreed to go along with the plan. Mary Bakker showed up at our house on Sunday and quickly changed my mind. She was professional, kind, and respectful. I did not feel uncomfortable at all about having her in our house. She was careful about doing the admission, medical plan, and medication-tracking paperwork accurately and explained things to me clearly (John was not interested in the paperwork, and she didn't force him to participate). Before beginning the treatment, Mary talked to John and I, listened carefully to our concerns, and wanted to know exactly what had and had not been working with the previous wound-vac dressings that he'd had. John had had a terrible experience with the first wound-vac dressing change in the hospital (the nurse refused to give him pain medication as ordered and it was very traumatic), and she was sympathetic and reassured John before she started. She also gave him a lot of autonomy in the process; he was able to remove the old dressing himself, which was the part that the hospital nurse had done in such a painful way. That was very helpful! She did a brilliant job changing the wound-vac dressing; it didn't leak as some of the previous ones in the hospital had, and it was also more comfortable than many of them. She shared information about the wound, what to expect as it healed, and when we would know we were done with the wound-vac unit, information we'd tried to get from hospital staff but never managed to learn from them (and we got the sense that many of them didn't know). The only feedback I'd give Heartland about how to improve is to provide their nurses with better gloves; the cheap vinyl ones that Mary had stuck to the dressing; the nitrile ones that the hospital had given me were much better. Better gloves are a tiny investment that would help the nurses perform better for their patients. Because John wanted to go back to work, we ended up getting the rest of the wound-vac dressing changes done at the UWMC wound clinic. This was in no way a reflection of the services we got from Heartland. We were both pleasantly surprised and if one of us ever needs home health care in the future, I will be a lot less concerned about it than I was this time.

This is now twice that Heartland has worked with me after a Total Knee Replacement…read more The first time was in March of 2010 and now with the replacement I had done on 12/21/11. I have not had an easy ride with the last replacement (thank god we only have two knees). Sick in the hospital, 2 units of blood, lots of pain and sent home over a long holiday weekend without complete pain control. I was a basket case and I live alone. If it had not been for Heartland, (Ronnie and Stacey) I think that I would have ended up back at ER and back in the hospital. Their great support and care have kept my sprits up and help give me the support to work on the painful recovery from my second not so fun total knee replacement. So glad that Heartland has been there again for me during my recovery. They get top ratings in my book. Suzy

I was referred to EvergreenHealth Home Care for hospice care for my loved one. Contacting them was…read morean easy process and they made all the arrangements within 2 days after learning of the urgency. The social worker came to assess the situation, went over the binder with all the information and contacts, and gave me the support I needed. The bed and all other equipment were delivered on a Wednesday after calling them Tuesday morning. Nurse Venus came over on Wednesday evening to familiarize me with the process - from medication to adjusting the bed, changing diapers, etc. She was very respectful and showed a lot of compassion, understanding and patience. I was a wreck and she walked me through what to expect and gave me all the contact numbers I may need. My loved one was only in hospice care for a day, but the care and compassion shown to me by nurse Venus and the staff at the office helped me through this most difficult time. Months after my loved one passed, they continue to send me materials on grief along with their program schedule for counseling. I highly recommend EvergreenHealth Home Care.
