Fresh appetizing food. We had the falafel platter and the sabich platter. Delicious, first time there but will be back soon. Also the Chutzpah Fries with feta cheese were delicious too.

Babaganoush- smokey, excellent!

Excellent food! This Israeli-American spot offers tasty craveable dishes. If you're hungry, their sandwiches and bowls more than satisfy while their side/starter "Mezze" plates like Hummus and Babaganoush could double as smaller meals. In fact, their smokey babaganoush (which comes with a fluffy pita) lasted me 2 amazing meals. Their "Kufta Bowl" was great and comes with a lot: seasoned lamb/beef patties, Israeli and cabbage salads, hummus, tahina (creamy sesame-based sauce), harissa (red chile-based sauce), pickles, and amba (spiced mango- based sauce). Then my daughters (under age 10) enjoyed their Falafel over Hummus, but the garlicky toum (sauce) under the falafel was a bit much for them. Overall, my whole family approves of this spot powered by love and chutzpah. NOTES: I ordered takeout and delivery via Doordash but they have a dine-in area with a few small tables and a counter with barstools.

I have been coming here for a couple of years, and thought it is time to update my review. I love the pita sandwiches they have, the fried eggplant is really good. Baba ghanoush is one of my favorites, I buy the side (container) and eat it all week, making sandwiches at home. The service is friendly, and it is clean inside. There are also tables outside. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this spot. Take a look at the photographs on the wall, there are also interesting to look at.

Amazing Israeli casual restaurant. 1) I got the Sabich, Chutzpah Fries, Hummus & Tahina topped w/ Falafel. 2) The Sabich is a Middle Eastern Jewish sandwich with origins with Iraqi Jews. It is very popular these days in Israel and its capital Jerusalem. 3) The ambiance inside is amazing. 4) They offer free lemon infused water. 5) I really liked the Israeli grape juice.

Sauces in question

I LOVE chutzpuh. I really love it. But I needed to call to attention that their delivery and take out really lacks detail. We ask for a side of their sauces EVERYTIME and it's always ignored. Today we picked up the order asked for the side sauces and it wasn't there, we had to drive back to get them. This isn't a strange requests it's technically pre-prepared behind the counter. Please just fix this, I'd be happy to adjust my review from there.

After trying their food at a local gathering, I was excited to have a full meal here recently. Having traveled to Israel, I really enjoy this type of cuisine and was pleased that the quality and flavor here lived up to my memories abroad. The food is very fresh and the portions are a good size! You order at the counter and can sit inside or take the food to go as seems to be popular. I had the falafel bowl which unbeknownst to me came with two large fluffy pitas! I could barely finish one in addition to all the falafels, salads, and hummus that it also comes with. The bowl was delicious and very filling. I would definitely come here again if I'm in the mood for some Israeli food or want something on the healthier side!

Last lunch before the flight back west we were looking for something not too heavy. So Mediterranean food it was. Calling themselves the best Falafel in NJ, there is a good amount choices on the menu including - soups, pitas, salads and of course falafel among others. I got the Za'atar chicken - "Succulent" chicken thighs, it comes with purple cabbage salad, hummus, tahina, harissa, sliced pickles & amba (not sure what that is exactly). This was inside of a pita, though you can get it as a bowl which is a bit more expensive. It was great. The chicken was seasoned well, tender and the fixins inside the warm pita were quite good and quite filling. I had some falafel too which were decently sized and paired well with the hummus. The inside of Chutzpah is that of a cafe. somewhat modest seating table seating and some counter space. There is merch and Israeli spices etc. you can buy if you want to try do your own Mediterranean cooking. Chutzpah is a nice little spot to come for a quick lunch if you want something a bit less dense. - Take out or eat in.

Can't believe I waited so long to try this place. Came for dinner before heading into the city. We were the only people to dine in but the takeout / pick up scene was poppin. The space is cute and cozy inside. Simple decor with some good photo spots. The staff was super nice and our food came out quickly and nicely plated. Absolutely loved the hummus - life changing. Could use it as a lotion it's so smooth. Everything was tasty and I can't wait to have it for take out again next week!

Omg! was my first thought after biting into my kufta sandwich from Chutzpah. So many great flavors that work so well together. The sandwich was saucy but the pita held up well through the whole sandwich. Great food and fast delivery!

Very simple "take out" place we came across driving home late. The place is modern and very clean, staff was very pleasant despite being quite young. We are spoiled by Mediterranean/middle-Eastern food, but the food was absolutely delicious despite the place being a tiny "hole in a wall". Babaganoush was deliciously spiced, corn was absolutely mouthwatering. I ordered small falafel sandwich (pita pocket) and my husband had chicken sandwich and fries, all was delicious. My only regret is they are too far away from us, but we already made plans to come back if we are driving by.

Kofta! So good!

Menu is Mediterranean. Tried one of the dips which was generous portion and great!! The pita- like bread was so fresh- tasted like home- made. Husband had short rib ragu with paparadell & I had one of the specials - grilled swordfish with roasted vegetables and cauliflower puree. Husband loved his dish ( I agree- had a taste) and my dish was wonderful also. It was a nice melange of onions, peppers, eggplant & zucchini. The puree was also very good. Prob the best swordfish I've ever had at a restaurant - nicely seasoned and not dried out. We didn't really check out desserts because we were too full. Soft drinks were available and it's BYO. Service also met our expectations. So glad we discovered Mezza because we already talked about going back!

Servers seemed disengaged, chatting among themselves instead of attending to tables promptly. When we asked questions about dishes during our last visit, the response was a curt "whatever it says on the menu," which felt unhelpful and dismissive. The food is still decent, but the unpleasant atmosphere makes dining there less enjoyable now. I hope management addresses this situation. Perhaps training could help, regardless of any broader challenges with workers. Frequent patrons like me notice the decline and hope it can be corrected.

I tasted piece of the chicken in the chicken salad & it was really good & well flavored so it was kind of puzzling to me that The chicken thigh lacked flavor even though the chicken itself was fresh & delicately grilled, vegetables was great especially the baby potatoes, rice was meh! But it came with no kind of sauce. There were at least 3 tables celebrating their birthday which I took for a good sign & place appears child friendly without being annoying so it seems like a great neighborhood spot. With good atmosphere & great service, & fresh ingredients, I was somewhat disappointed in the lack of flavors in several dishes but I would still cautiously recommend this place if you live in the neighborhood but I would not go out of my way to get to this restaurant.

We ordered a whole range of things including chicken kebab, chicken gyro, tahini cauliflower,…read morelabneh, and hummus. Everything was delicious, but I'll leave the food writing to the Yelpers with more sophisticated palates than I. (Actually, I take that back--the fresh-baked pita was amazing and I would eat it with/for every meal if I could.) The real reason I wanted to leave a review the service, which went above and beyond. Let me start by saying that Al Basha takeout has a wonderfully efficient order-number-based system for managing the hundreds of orders they get on a daily basis. But if, say, the person who placed the order sent you to pick up the food with the wrong order number, you're going to struggle, and that's not the restaurant's fault. With that prelude and without getting into the details, we'll just say there was a user error issue with my order that led to a mix-up and a very late pick-up. Everyone from the Al Basha staff with whom I interacted could not have handled it any better. They were very apologetic, not because they did anything wrong (to be clear, they didn't), but because they were disappointed our meal hadn't gone well and wanted to fix that. The top priority of the manager with whom I dealt was making sure that my wife--it was Mothers' Day--got the best meal possible, and made sure to send me home with fresh bread and a treat for the moms. It was true hospitality, and greatly appreciated. TLDR version: great food, excellent service, out-of-this-world pita, and make darned sure you have the right order number.

The chicken kebab was dry and the shawarma was a bit too sour for my liking (not sure if they squeezed lemon on it or something). The kofta was okay but nothing spectacular. The filet mignon, was a major let down. My server didn't ask how we'd like it cooked, which is medium rare for my family. It came back well done. He said everyone usually prefers it to be well done, but I think that's a mistake that shouldn't be made and preference should always be asked, especially with steak. We asked for it to be swapped, and it still came back well done. When we let them know again, they brought it back a little on the rare side, which is fine for my family, but had it been another family, not so sure. I'm sure they have hundreds of orders for the char grilled meets, so I'm a little confused on why the technique has not already been established My favorite dish had to be the makanik - which is pan seared lamb sausages finished with sweet and tangy pomegranate molasses. I usually don't like lamb because of the gamey flavor but these sausages didn't have that. I didn't taste much of the pomegranate molasses. The arugula & beet salad would've been good if the pomegranate molasses vinaigrette was less sweet. The stuffed grape leaves were also a bit too sour. The lemon was just taking over the entire flavor profile. I didn't really taste the tomato or parsley. The falafel platter was good but nothing different than other falafels that I've had. The mint lemonade was so refreshing. Almost everyone in the restaurant had one and I understand why. The mint is not overpowering I had high expectations because I've seen this place on instagram but I'm afraid they were not met. Service was good, but the food definitely needs some work. There's valet parking, which i recommend because it's hard to find street parking

But although I found the restaurant to be cozy and my server to be friendly, the food though freshly prepared was just average at best. Let me explain. So, after perusing the menu, I saw a few Mediterranean staples, such as, baba-ghanoush, lentil soup, and a beef Shawarma entrée. So I decided to order all three of those items. Now, let me tell you not only was I excited to taste the food here, but I truly wanted to experience what a majority of people on yelp said about this place and its food. But I soon discovered that you truly cannot trust other peoples opinions when it comes to food. You just literally have to try it yourself to see if it even resembles that cuisines standard benchmarks. Well anyway, let me get to what I thought about the food. The lentil soup it's pretty tasty, but it would serve lukewarm. The baba-ghanoush was also tasty, but the pita bread was stale and void of any flavor. And as for the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, it was literally chopped up cubes of beef! Nothing near to what a standard Shawarma entrée should resemble, or let alone taste like! To be quite honest, I was so disenchanted with the Shawarma entrée that I asked my server to take it away and just give me the bill. I was ready to go! But my server genuinely saw my disappointment with this so-called Beef Shawarma that she pleaded with me to try another entrée. So I asked her to recommend another entrée to me. And she recommended the Skewered Chicken entrée. So, I caved in and went ahead and ordered this Skewered Chicken entrée. But I should've just went with my gut feeling and just should have paid the bill and left. I say this because it took forever for them to prepare this Skewered Chicken entrée and I mean forever! And this is on a Tuesday night with only two other people inside the restaurant, so literally this place was empty! (Not sure if the Cook made me wait for this dish out of spite for me sending back the first entree but that is my suspicion). Anyway, I got my server's attention and she told me if I could wait a few more minutes because they were plating my dish and that it will be out shortly. And that literally took another 10 minutes. To say that I was eager to get out of this place would be an understatement. I was standing up literally putting on my jacket when the dish finally reached my table. My server asked me kindly to return to my seat and to try her recommended entrée. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and I did so. The Skewered Chicken entrée was a little better than the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, but really nothing to write home about. What a letdown! I really wanted to give this restaurant one star, but my server really showed genuine concern about my dining experience. And I truly appreciated that. And so as for my take on Le Souk of Montclair NJ. I would caution spending your hard earned money at this restaurant. The food is mediocre at best and there are a lot of better options in the Montclair area for Mediterranean food.

Located in the heart of Cranford, this intimate yet homelike restaurant features a hospitable staff that takes the time to explain the menu, making the entire experience feel so warm and inviting. They offer a comprehensive menu ranging from lamb and chicken to shawarma, seafood , falafel, and so much more. Since they are a BYOB establishment, they will gladly open and serve your bottle for you without any hassle. For starters, we opted for the dip sampler, which includes pita and three distinct spreads. The Mouhammara is my personal favorite; it's crafted from red peppers with a pomegranate syrup that adds a hint of sweetness, while crushed walnuts provide an incredible texture. Next is the Baba Ghanouj, a roasted eggplant dip with garlic and tahini that creates a savory, slightly smoky, and velvety delight. Finally, it includes their classic homemade hummus, which is a classic and delicious choice. I love that you don't have to choose, you truly get the best of all three varieties. For our main course, we ordered the Old City Mix. It's a generous portion for two that typically comes with a garden salad and rice. I personally prefer the greens, so I swapped the rice for two garden salads tossed in a zesty minty vinaigrette. The platter features kafta, shish tawook, shish kebab, lamb chops, shawarma, and four falafels, all served on a bed of pita with tahini and garlic sauces as the finishing touch. Everything is remarkably fresh and seasoned perfectly. The falafel is crispy on the exterior and fluffy on the inside, the meats are grilled to your liking, and the salad perfectly balances the rich platter. I thoroughly enjoy this spot for both lunch and dinner and am even looking into their catering for my next party. Do yourself a favor and visit them soon!
