My wife and I had lunch at Chuy's on October 28, 2022. We had not been to Chuy's in a long time because parking is very difficult with the number of condos and that there is no easy parking for valet. When Nicole arrived at our table, she came with a smile, chips, salsa, and jalapeno ranch, which is a great way to start at Chuy's. I had the Elvis combo and my wife had the steak burrito. Compared to dining-in quality and temperature of food (4 stars), your take-out service needs great improvement (2 stars). We wanted to try getting our food to go. We even went on-line to place our order, indicating that we would come inside and pick up the food at 7:00 pm. My husband got there on time, but still had to wait. However, we felt that the temperature of the food was less than even warm. So, we believed the food had been prepared WELL before 7 and just sat there in the bag (s). The quesadillas we ordered were supposed to be stuffed with cheese or sauce. Nope - very little of either. The tortilla shells were over-cooked. However, the added Fajita chicken was great (extra cost, no problem). My husband's Enchilada was also, not hot, and neither were the beans and rice. The best part of this take-out meal was the Queso and chips. Can't go wrong there. So, if you want food to go and you live near Raleigh, try San Jose's. If you want to dine in, you could give this place a try. We did several years ago and I found nothing wrong with the food, quality and temperature. Sorry, Chuy's! You missed the mark on this one . Visited today for lunch - been a hot minute since we ate here last. No parking available anywhere, opted for free valet (not really free as we always tip!). Seated quickly and loved being in the bar area, the decor is so bright and fun. Ordered the taco salad ($9.99) with ground sirloin and hubby ordered the combo fajitas (pricey). Food was good, my salad didn't have much protein on it which was a bummer. Hubby liked his fajitas but said they were just okay, not enough flavors? The highlight of the meal was the free chips! Yum. They are super thin and perfectly salted. The salsa is a NO GO, gross. But the white sauce was delicious! We asked for some chips and white sauce to bring home, so good. Overall, an okay meal, nothing special. We've definitely had better Mexican elsewhere - but, if you're in North Hills, want to search endlessly for an elusive parking space and want some okay Mexican food, stop in. We Ordered the new menu chicken tender tacos. The tortilla was refrigerator cold, then super cold cheese, cold pico, cold lettuce and lower than room temp fried chicken tenders. The place was dead so it's not like they were overwhelmed. There were 6 Tables in the entire place seated! The bartender was very friendly and gave us ample attention while working both the bar and all the tables in the bar area. For that she earned the only star given! I visited Chuy's for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the service, atmosphere, and food. Tanner went above and beyond to ensure our experience was favorable and we were all so appreciative of her attention and kindness. We started with queso which was insane - so so good. Not too standard / boring but also not too much jooj, it was just oh so right. We also loved how thin and crispy the tortilla chips were! Cocktails were delicious and above just a standard recipe, but not boujee by any means. It was exactly what I want when I order a margarita! The food was hot and fresh. When an order came out incorrectly, it was promptly addressed without hesitation and must've received priory in the kitchen because the correct order came in a jiffy. We were all very happy with the flavor and portion size of our meals. I really couldn't complain and would definitely return if ever in the North Hills area again. I feel bad giving 2-stars because the food is usually good. The problem is the service. We've eaten in the restaurant 3 times and had decent service once. The 1st time there we were on the patio and I swear the server was stoned. He didn't write our order down and then had to come back because he couldn't remember what we ordered. I had to get up to refill our chips and water because he was MIA. We've placed togo orders over 50x and the order is correct maybe 50% of the time. The staff doesn't know the menu items. Sometimes you get two tacos, sometimes you don't. We've had meals missing. We've had wrong ingredients. You never know what you're going to get so make sure you check before driving home. Food is 4-stars (when the order is correct). Service is 1-star. Overall 2-stars. read more

By far one of my favorite restaurants! Mexican food is my favorite cuisine and I like all types. This is a great Tex-Mex chain. The restaurant is located in Midtown (right across from North Hills). There is free valet, but there is also parking available all around. They are building up this area quickly so parking is more limited than it used to be, but it's not horrible. I've been many times and have had good experiences every time. The staff is friendly, the food is great, and the drinks are good. The best part of all is their Happy Hour. On weekdays between 4-7 PM they have a FREE nacho car. Yes FREE! The Nacho Car (it's literally the truck of a car...so cool!) is stocked with beef taco meet, chips, refried beans, salsa, and their amazing queso. And like I said, it's FREE! Although I mostly go for Happy Hour, I have also ordered food a few times as well. The food is also very good! It is all extremely fresh and I have never been disappointed. One time I met a friend for Happy Hour when I was feeling a cold coming so I decided to order some chicken tortilla soup to-go and I must say it's so good! I'm not a big soup person, but the flavors are great! My mother doesn't like Mexican food (she's an odd one..), but I took her one time before we went to Beach Music and she actually enjoyed it! I lived in Austin, TX many years ago and Chuy's was always a favorite place for everyone. It usually had a line out the door and I would always get the Steak Burrito. The steak they used always had a nice grilled flavor and was nice and tender. The burritos were yummy and melted in your mouth. Fast forward to here and now... I have been to the North Hills Chuy's many times before COVID but this was the first time since then. My experience was not good. (1) On a Monday night, the wait was over 30 minutes and there were many empty tables. It wasn't like they were empty so that there could be distance between guests, because we sat in a booth next to other people. I guess they are just short staffed. (2) When we finally got to our table, it was messy from the previous people. It hadn't been cleaned, yet. The hostess wiped the goopy stuff off in the middle and then told us it was OK. But it still had crumbs all over it so I pointed those out. She gave another wipe and then ran off leaving crumbs all over. Out waiter finally came over and we pointed it out and he did a decent job of cleaning it off and then said some snide remark about the hostess. Not professional to talk bad about coworkers. (3) Next he took our drink orders and asked if we had time to check out the menus. We responded that we didn't have any menus and then he pointed to a QR code and said we need to scan that. We are not cell phone slaves but luckily had one that we could share. There is no reason not to just print menus on copy paper or just wipe off laminated ones. Anyway, too much of a pain for me to have to read the menu from a small phone but I guess I am old fashioned. (4) Food came and I took a bite of my Steak Burrito. The meat was chewy, or should I say "chuy". They used to use good quality steak (in Austin at least) but the North Hills Chuy's has always had steak that is not as good. This time it was just plain bad. For the first time ever, I didn't finish my burrito. In fact, I didn't even eat half of it. (5) My drink (coke) sat empty for almost the entire time I was eating and I was never offered another one. I could have flagged down the waiter and asked for one, but by this time I just wanted to see how apathetic he could be. He can definitely go the distance. (6) The waiter was clearly busy and didn't have time to chit chat but he totally did not give us good attention and would run off before we had a chance to really comment on anything. We asked for some Creamy Ranch and he seemed annoyed by it. I thought about giving him a very small tip but went ahead and gave him about 20% after taking into consideration that he was probably swamped. But still, that doesn't mean a customer should get bad service. He did NOT deserve the tip he got from us but whatever. All four of us at my table were very disappointed in everything about the visit. Definitely not up to our Austin, TX standards and not even up to the pre-COVID North Hills standards. Unfortunately, Chuy's and that whole North Hills shopping center have just gone to the dark side. Going to pass on that area from now on. read more

The Queso was made with something like Velveeta or Cheez-Whiz with some spices. The Fajita Chicken Soft Tacos came with 3 strips of dry grilled chicken in each tortilla, all other ingredients (shredded lettuce, guacamole, diced tomato, cheese) were on the plate next to some flavorless rice and re-fried beans. I've been coming to this particular Chuy's in North Hills since the week they opened and it has been my favorite date night, Birthday, and going out on the town dinner for that long. This past visit was not the Chuy's that I once knew and loved. The drinks were great at always and service at the bar was fantastic, when we got to our table the salsa was pink, like pale salmon pink color. It tasted very heavily of onions and serrano, not much tomato I suppose, that we could deal with. Then came the queso, it tasted like cheddar soup, I don't know if they just added too much milk but it was very runny and ran off the chips. Then the food, everything looked and smelled fantastic, however the three enchilada dishes at the table had undercooked corn tortilla, the beef burritos and fajitas were tough and chewy, and everything including the rice and beans was spicy as all hell, and I love spicy food. I guess when the rice, beans, and entree have the same level of heat you start to ask questions. Our waitress said that the chef tended to make the food a little too spicy, however I feel like spice was perhaps used to cover the quality of meat they're now using. Like I said, this review hurts to write, as Chuy's is the closest thing I can get to mom's cooking without the travel, I really hope that they can get it together and back to its' former glory. We decided to go for a change of pace from our downtown Raleigh area, where we live, and venture to North Hills for dinner. We decided on Chuy's! Though there was a 20 minute wait on a Sunday evening for a party of 2 (lots of families waiting, especially) we were able to immediately sit at the bar. The two waitresses/bartenders at the bar were so sweet and I loved their upbeat energy and willingness to go above and beyond for us, even giving us a sample of the day's burrito meat without even asking them for it. Their beers are very much affordable and though we stuck with cervezas, their frozen drinks in particular looked delicious. I'd give them 5 stars but my one complaint was my salad was DRENCHED in water. So much so I tilted the bowl it was in to the side and drinks a few ounces of water out of it. :-/ Eek. So the one thing that Chuy's has against it is location. It is in the part of Raleigh that is trying hard to rebrand itself to be more trendy. I loved plain old North Raleigh just the way it was. Okay, but beyond that the food and atmosphere are great. We were seated quickly and served promptly. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and helped us make selections and substitutions. I read the reviews before hand and I don't agree with a lot of the negative stuff. However, I think time of day matters. We came early and so the food was freshest and so were the staff. I could see the crowd picking up as we were finishing our meal. Also, trendy people are picky, I give it to the servers. I actually witnessed a manager pulled over because a person wanted to talk substitutions. I could see being wore out by the middle of a shift dealing with that kind of stuff. It also says something that a chain goes out of its way to attempt to meet needs of picky eaters. My spouse wants to go back and so we will. I am hoping to sit on the patio and drink next time. The servers weren't 100% knowledgeable of the menu and slow at times, but they were still helpful and had a pretty good handle on our tables given our large party size. My group ordered different dips and appetizer platters to share as our starter and I ordered an enchilada for my entree. I thought all the food tasted like standard Mexican fare. For my entree I tried the baja tacos with battered fish, cilantro,red cabbage. The tacos came with refried beans and Mexican rice and the portion was big enough that I brought home half of my plate and had it for lunch the next day. The Mexican rice had a kick to it and was more spicy than I expected! I had heard about this chain years ago but finally stopped in after being tempted by their complimentary nacho car for happy hour (M-F, 4 to 7pm). So I stopped in on a Tuesday at about 5:30 and it was a mellow scene. The bartenders at Chuy's were super-prompt, they all immediately took care of drink orders and clued me in on the nachos. And while I did dig into the nachos (super, thin, crisp chips with queso, seasoned beef, tomatoes and refried beans), I also did the chicka-chicka boom enchiladas. Good eats with just the right amount of food for $10. Poking around the space you'll immediately notice the colorful decor ranging from painted wooden fish, dog decor and more. While Chuy's may not be Mex-mex, it's good Tex-mex at a good price. I can see why this place works at North Hills with its reasonable prices, good service and huge patio.
