My son visited about a couple of weeks ago. (My motto YOU get tipped by your service & we tip well for good service..) The waiter was not friendly, order was screwed up. He ask for to go drinks but forgot to get them. The waitress followed them outside. Got their attention and said you forgot your drinks. My son turned around to get them. He dropped them "PURPOSELY" Yes because he didn't get a tip. That would be the reason why he didn't get a "TIP". I do understand bad days. We all have them. #2nd experience Son took me their for lunch on Mother's Day.. Waitress had an attitude from the start. Order was screwed up. son ordered fries with his burrito. He was brought a chicken strip meal. The cook that brought it said keep it its our mistake. The waitress came and snatched it off the table. Every time she came to the table she was short with her words, cutting us off as we speak. She never asked did we need anything else. Bought our ticket in which it was 3 of us. 2 separate tickets she never asked. Everything on 1 ticket. We sat there for about 10 minutes before she came back to ask for to go containers. Came in and had a limited time for lunch. Our waiter Big Mike was the best ever. He was on top of everything. We never felt like we were being rushed but lunch went by quickly. In and out on time. Food was great also, had green chicken Taquitos . Ask for him, he's the best we ever had!!! read more

We went to Tyler the weekend before christmas to visit Santa land. We stopped to eat here after some shopping & we were in a hurry. We sat down right away, our service was excellent. The food was excellent. Just as I ran out of water, she comes to the rescue. I tipped her 25%, Thinking about it now, I wish I wasn't in a rush bc i would have given her way more. That's what happens when you rush through the day, you forget to thank the ones that make your day better. Savannah dear, i hope someone tells you about this. You are excellent and made our trip very easy going. We will be back just to sit in your section and make it up to you. Idk if there are more than 1 Savannah's there, but the one we are talking about has Long sandy blondish hair, no make up, blue eyes, freckles, & a thin young lady. She might be 19 or 20. Shrimp Stuffed Pepper and Chicken Chicken Pow Pow - Second time we arrived to try Chuy's. The first time, the place was packed and people waiting for almost an hour so I knew it had to be worth trying. This time it was a Saturday evening and only took 10-15 minutes to get a seat. Ed was our waiter and I must admit, I am someone skeptical and cautious when I go out to eat because I have been in the food industry for over 15 years. I watch for "memory lines" when greeted such as " hello my name is ____ and I am happy to do my best to please you tonight" Oh please, get a life! Just introduce yourself and make sure I don't have a bad dinning experience while I'm at your location. I don't want someone to tell me their efforts, I want someone to make an effort and if they happen to mess up, then we are all human. Actions speak louder then words in a restaurant. Ed was just that, He was all action, never missed a beat when it came to my tea. Never had to ask for refills because when we talked about their sauces, he wanted to know how spicy we liked our mexican foods. We explained spicy as long as I have tea to follow up when I get too hot. This was a hint that I'm going to put away a gallon of tea if I eat hot sauce tonight and he did not miss the hint. When it came to ordering for my wife, he again asked her for the amount of heat she likes. He directed her to what he thought she would like and right on target. The food was perfect. After a while, he asked how I like their fresco, mind you, he did not call it salsa because it was far from that. You can get salsa or hot sauce at any tex mex restaurant but I never had this before. I told him I loved it and he proceeds to tell me I can even get it to go. not in a to go order but different size containers that I can take with us. What a delight to have someone offer information without having to ask for everything. To end our dinning experience, he closed the end of the meal with the normal questions like if we enjoyed the food and if we wanted desert. Knowing we did not finish everything, the to go containers came out with the fresco and to our surprise a bag of their chips as well. Won't be back... Where should I start with this establishment? I'll start at the beginning... After seeing a crowded parking lot and a 15 minute wait list (for a Friday lunch), it's fair to say I was excited to see what the Chuy's experience would be like... I'm sad to say that I was disappointed on almost all points. And the points were as follows: - Food - Let's face it, when I go to a restaurant, I'm not interested in how awesome the bar is, nor am I interested in the (very mildly) interesting old photographs on the walls. I'm there to eat and enjoy the experience with my fellow hungry companions..... Chuy's, as it turns out, is not much more than hype. After waiting at the table quite a while, the waitress finally brought out a delicious basket of chips and a single small bowl of salsa for me (a large 29 year old man), AND my two companions. A single bowl wouldn't bother me if it had been a family size bowl or even a man-sized bowl. After being asked 2-3 times for more bowls, we were finally obliged. From then on the service improved.... The food did not. I tried sampled my wife's plate and was underwhelmed. Chuy's definitely loves lime... A LOT of lime. And sadly not much else in the way of flavors. All three of us mentioned how desperately lacking the chicken was in flavor. I suspect the chicken was boiled instead of pan-seared or smoked, or grilled. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to puke afterward, but with as much good Mexican food in Tyler as there is, you would expect Chuy's to at least try to compete. But when it comes to food, Chuy's is unremarkable at best. - Experience - My wife and I are both in our 20's, so we're not accustomed to feeling deaf, but at Chuy's if you don't have a brash obnoxious voice that carries, you won't be heard. And it wasn't the excited buzz of a busy lunch, it was blaring music that must have been the manager's favorite list on his media device.... Maybe they think that if they overwhelm your auditory senses you won't notice how blah the food is. I found the general class of customer interesting. From what I can tell, Chuy's is the place that somebody let slip is where all the hip people hang out. And the sad joke is that it's not because of anything Chuy's has to offer. The atmosphere was mildly interesting, but not any more so than any other Mexican food restaurant in Tyler. From now on, whenever I see a crowded parking lot in front of Chuy's. I'll smile and say "you cats go ahead and be 'cool'... That just means there'll be less wait at the great restaurants of Tyler." - Service - There's not much to say here, at first the service was slow, but then it quickly became "up to snuff". I don't know why, but I'm glad it did. The hostess did ask how everything was as we were leaving. It would be much quicker to simply say "fine" and just leave, but my wife is an honest person and said "it was ok I guess..." She asked how it could have been better. We offered just a point or two and the waitress simply tried to get us to come back and "try something else"... Why would we do that? I know some places you have to order just the right thing, but truth be told, if a place can't get it right on 3 separate dishes on the menu... Then it's already had 3 chances and failed. Overall.... It was okay, it was typical Tex Mex, they do have several salsas to choose from. I thought when I entered they would have fish because there is fish on the walls, so I was disappointed when there wasn't a fish in site. The epitome of tex-mex. Chips and salsa here are my favorite go to, but don't forget to ask for the creamy jalapeno salsa, it is... well half the reason to visit this restaurant. This place is always busy, so expect it to be kinda noisy. They have a decent drink selection, their specials are pretty darn good. They have a cheese sauce they will pour over anything. Really, if you want to be healthy, go somewhere else, although there are even a few good "lite" options on the menu. I have been to Chuys across Texas, and this place is consistent in flavor and atmosphere no matter where you go. I also am a big fan of their tres leches cake, so save some room. It is fluffy, white and wet. Besides this, I like their mexicob salad, but beware, it can be spicy. Try it with the creamy jalapeno dressing. Big as your face burritos, fajitas, and chicaboomboom chicken are all good choices too IMHO. I go here about once a month to indulge in food that I know my doctor would not approve of. No!!!!!!! Have been to chuys multiple times for the free queso (which is not free unless you buy something, just mentioning because they do not advertise it that way) and never got a ticket back because I ordered water every time so we never got charged because it's FREE QUESO AND WATER unless I bought a meal which I paid for in full with tip. Got my FREE QUESO and water tonight and the waiter told me I had to buy something but I had no cash on me because I had never been charged or told that I had to pay in previous visits. I told him that I never get charged and he chuckled and said "well, I'm gonna charge you" very rudely. He then sent the manager over who told us that it was store policy, which is understandable. So my friend orders a sweet tea that took at least 20 minutes to get there and by that time we were full on chips and queso. He gives us our ticket which is $5.69 for ONE SWEET TEA. I get upset and walk out of the restaurant to get $1 that I had in my car, and the manager chases me and my friend out of the store yelling at us that "we can't do that, we have done this before and she will call the cops" I ignored her and got my dollar and she starts TAKING PICTURES OF ME. I walk back in to give her the rest of the money for the 1 drink I got which would be around $2.35 and asked her why she charged us for 2 drinks when we only got 1. She starts yelling at me in the middle of the restaurant about how we have dined and dashed before (which we have NEVER done) and that we both had to order something if we both ate queso, but we both split the drink and were on the same ticket. She called our waiter over that had let us "get away" with "not paying" before and he said that "we do that all the time" and he "let it slide once" when we got teas instead of water and he told the manager it was because he "didn't want to deal with it" i.e. Giving us a ticket for our drinks that weren't water. Wth??? In reality, we asked for our ticket that took 15 minutes to get and he said "not to worry about it," implying that he would pick up the tab. He addressed me as "homie" and completely denied not handing us a ticket after our FREE QUESO AND WATER. No where in the store is it blatantly stated that you must buy something with your queso, nor did ANY WORKER in the entire restaurant ever confront us about buying something with our queso. Never going back to that bullsh*t customer service and rude employees. I told the manager that I was not coming back so she didn't have to worry about me "stealing" and she said "good! We have people here that will actually pay for their meals" as if I don't. Chuy's just lost 3 loyal customers who did nothing wrong. What happened to "the customer is always right"? read more
