I've had a mixed experience with Chuze Fitness. The gym itself is really nice--there's a great variety of machines, plenty of open space, and overall it's a good environment to work out in. However, I was really disappointed with the customer service. I originally paid the yearly fee along with my monthly membership, but after my credit card was hacked and I had to get a new one, they made me pay the annual fee all over again. Even though my account showed I was already an existing member, they wouldn't let me continue unless I paid it again. That situation was really frustrating and honestly felt unfair. Came here with my fiancé yesterday and signed up for a 7 day free trial. We got a really good cardio session in. Came back for the second day today. Not only was the sign up process quick, but the front desk associates were super friendly, didn't try to sell us a membership or services upon signing up. The facility is CLEAN. Cleansing wipes through the entire gym. Plenty of lockers available. Clean restrooms. Pure joy. Can you imagine a gym where people are actually there to workout?! Not a tripod in sight! Heaven.. I decided to try this gym out since I was working in the area. The gym was very nice and clean. It had majority of new machines which was really nice. However, I wish there was more free weights available, and some more workout benches to go around. The cinema room was a great touch and I like that. They are currently expanding and renovating. They allow a homeless lady to dig through the trash during business hours. Last year one of the employees had to move the trash can away from the free weights cuz she was in our way while digging through trash. I see her weekly for a year now. They allow homeless to bring in all of their stuff and shower in the big handicap shower for over 2 hours of running the water, cleaning her clothes and whatever else, wheeling in her cart of stuff. While we pay the price for the gym, they get to use up a ton of water and do laundry in the shower. Also looks to be a street walker or prostitute. Will be looking for another gym that doesn't allow this. How unsanitary. This is the Santee location. Which has a lot of homeless encampments that the city allows not too far from the gym. The ones that set a huge fire behind Michael's Santee location a few weeks back. I do not recommend this gym at all. read more

My family and I have been members of Chuze for years, and somehow this location has managed to decline in every possible category since 2012. Despite paying for Premium memberships, this is by far the least clean, least accommodating, and most unpleasant Chuze I've ever stepped foot in. Let's start with the restrooms, because unfortunately your nose doesn't get a choice. They reek. And yes, I'm talking about the women's restroom. The smell is so aggressive it travels down the hallway and greets you at the front desk, creating a rancid first impression every single visit. The HydroMassage beds are a running joke. They rarely work properly, often stopping mid-session or operating at such low pressure that calling it a "massage" feels like false advertising. When they do work, enjoy a blinding light directly in your face and a TV playing random news channels no one asked for. Reports are made constantly. Nothing changes. The tanning beds are just as bad. One of the full-length body bulbs in room #2 on the lay-down beds has never worked. It's stripped down the back and simply does not turn on. This has been reported repeatedly over a long period of time. Each time, staff assures us it will be "fixed" or that a new bulb is "on the way." It never is. At this point, it feels less like a maintenance issue and more like being lied to while paying for a Premium amenity that literally does not function. Premium classes are consistently short on weights, and the ones that remain are coated in cracked, fluorescent plastic with sharp edges. When this was politely brought to the front desk's attention, the staff responded with confusion, rudeness, and the implication that expecting weights for a class we pay extra for was somehow unreasonable. Several instructors appear completely disengaged and underprepared. Exercises are forgotten, reps are miscounted, and cool downs or stretching are often nonexistent. It's painfully obvious that some instructors don't want to be there, which makes you wonder why they're leading classes at all. Machine availability is laughable. There are never enough Smith machines, squat racks, or hip thrust stations. If you're lucky enough to snag one, an employee will suddenly comes out of the woodwork to clean it while you're actively using it, forcing you to step aside while they wave a dusty cleaning wand inches from your face. The "Movie Room" is a hoax. Inside you'll find three rows of the loudest, squeakiest machines known to man and movies no one requested. The credits are allowed to roll in full, sometimes followed by a blue standby screen, even after asking staff to fix it. The music blasting throughout the gym is unbearable and somehow cuts through even noise-canceling headphones. Wiping down equipment is encouraged but nearly impossible since wipes are almost never available. Customer service is consistently poor, and there's a 50/50 chance anyone will even acknowledge you when you walk in. And finally, the vibes. Ten times out of ten, there's either a creepy man hovering inches behind you waiting for the machine you just sat down on or openly staring you up and down, or a group of rude teenage girls blocking walkways, hovering around machines, and never actually working out. Between the smell, the broken amenities, the false promises, and the overall atmosphere, this location manages to make going to the gym feel like a nightmare instead of a safe and comfortable place to meet your fitness goals. Do yourself a favor and choose literally any other Chuze location. read more

Workers were very attentive with helping book for their infrared sauna. I went on a Sunday afternoon and machines available and wipes filled. I like the vibe of this location. Although one thing I would comment on is the water fountains could use a really good scrub down, build up and rust seems to be forming near where the water flows out. read more

The facilities are clean, the staff is friendly and the machines are functional and if for some reason they're not, they're fixed in an appropriate time frame. I love the facility and equipment. Got charged a draft fee for obscure reasons. When asked the reason from the Chuze team, they said that the draft fee was because of the insufficient funds from my checking account, although according to them the payment was processed. They told me that the first time the payment was processed it was rejected, but on the second attempt (it was done automatically according to them) the payment went through. I contacted my bank and they said that the payment was processed without any issues. I believe Chuze Fitness wanted to overcharge me to make more money; maximizing their charged fees by adding the draft fee to the monthly fee. It is interesting that my checking account only had the withdrawal payment for the monthly payment + draft fee. Bri, Chuze associate, was also not helpful; she said there was nothing that they could do for the draft fee, her attitude of indifference and not caring was absolutely unacceptable. Such a let down. (After contacting Chuze support email address, the issue was fixed. Thanks to their online presence, they could see my review and fix the issue right away, great service.) read more

I had a free week pass and now... unfortunately I'm obsessed with this gym. It's clean, the amenities are top tier and unlimited. They have a cinema room where you can watch a movie in the cool whilst working out away from the main workout area. Great for bigger, shy, introverts like me. I'm very particular and picky about my environment & surroundings. Some of the staff are actually seriously friendly and extremely patient, answering all of my questions. Sawyer was immovable, lacking customer service. There needs to be a modification, it's poor marketing to allow long term customers to walk away because the manager is incapable of making situational based decisions. Saw that they offered a seven day pass for free so of course I had to try them out! Signing up for a guest pass was easy, I just entered my info online and they e-mailed me a code. You use the code to connect your account to their mobile app. After showing the code to an employee for my first visit, I got a barcode to scan upon arrival via the app. Super simple. You also can use that barcode to reserve a spot for the sauna, tanning bed, or hydro massages. I've never had to wait longer than 10-15 minutes, a lot of the times I didn't have to wait at all (and I came during peak hours when everyone gets off of work, ~5P-8P). Super clean facility! All the equipment are in great condition, the bathrooms are clean, and I always see employees spraying down different areas of the gym. The employees are always so helpful and professional as well. Some other cool things I loved about this location: - Theraguns/massage guns available - Chuze Cinema (cardio room with movies playing) - Lots of group classes available, caters to essentially anyone's work schedule! - Their prices are great for what they offer and compared to competing gyms. - Wide variety of machines, weights, equipment, etc. I haven't signed up yet because I'll be out of country for awhile, but when I come back I'm definitely signing up. read more

I've been a member here since September last year. Aside from the amenities that this gym has to offer, the customer service is excellent! All of the staff here go out of their way to make guests feel seen and valued. Katie always amazes me by addressing me by name, even when I come to the counter at the end of my workout to buy a protein bar. Sawyer always takes a few minutes to catch up and ask me how I'm doing. Bri has a friendly smile and always recommends helpful ideas when I ask. Matthew has a genuine smile and connection with everyone who comes through the door which is nice. San Diego has thousands of great gyms to go to. Rock climbing, hot yoga, boot camp, etc. But what keeps me coming back to this ChuzeFitness is the way I feel like a part of the family when I show up and when I leave. In addition the gym is always spotless and clean. There's rarely a wait for any of the amenities even when it's busy so I know that the staff works well to keep things turning over. read more

I've had a membership at many other popular gym chains and I have finally found the perfect one. This location has been my favorite, because it is very clean, friendly staff, and the setup is great - other locations can have certain areas get packed, but they have everything spread out nicely. They have a couple different membership options - I opted for the one with all the amenities and it is so worth it; tanning, hydro massage, sauna, and many others. It is also recently remodeled and looks great! They also have a mini cinema, so you can get your cardio in with no complaints - movies are always good. read more

Front desk staff is always friendly. The ladies locker room is kept clean, as are exercise classes spaces. I have gone to the Santee 24 hr fitness and their locker room is absolutely filthy and rarely cleaned. Their staff is also rude and unhelpful so I really appreciate these great factors at Santee Chuze. I wish they would have more actual yoga classes, not just power/cardio/sculpt yoga. I have been a Member of Chuze Fitness in Santee for 8 years! Not once in that time has my usband been told that I need to be on the premises to use the cardio equipment as a guest. He has been here many times and not once was I forced to be present. I am a More member and I was never told that this was a policy. The Manager of this location who I've never met before told me I had to be on the premise if my husband was using the cardio deck. Now the manager was nice enough and I know he was just doing his job but why did it take 8 years for someone to tell me this. I've know all the managers and most of the trainers pre COVID and never even once was he stopped or made aware of this policy. I am very upset about this and it just may be what sends me to another gym. I always come in the morning and he has always come in the evening and now I have to sit here a wait for him, I'm very disappointed in Chuze these days. The facility is clean, but their payment system/customer service is horrendous. My credit card was skimmed (if you've ever gone through this, it's a huge hassle to update everything) and Chuze was the only business that actually made it impossible to update my card. Disneyland? Super easy. Netflix? Awesome. Spotify? Super friendly and it took two minutes! Chuze? Never again. You can't update card info over the phone or online, you literally have to come in right when you find out your card is cancelled so they don't charge you a fee on your next bill. They charge you a fee for having your credit card stolen! Not even Disney, known for their extreme corporate greed, did that to me. Throughout the whole process they repeatedly ask for an EFT from your bank. What the hell? You're a gym. Are people really stupid enough to give you their bank account info? A mediocre gym is not worth the hassle or the risk of having my bank info stolen from their system. Buh bye. read more

Definitely not a gym designed for the traffic. Place feels cramped, especially in dumbbell/chest area. 1 squat rack & smith machine. Like all other main stream chain gyms in area it's reliant on cardio machines & preset machines mostly. Wouldn't recommend for the real strength training kinda crowd like I want. More fit for those getting into fitness. Has the extra bells & whistles that attracts the leisure crowd. No different than the other options around like 24 Hour Fitness, Crunch, Planet Fitness. Staff are really helpful & welcoming. Doesn't meet the quality of the kinda gym I'd been used to in Arizona which had plenty room, strength training equipment, perfect for all kinds of training, & were 24 hours. read more

LOVE this gym! ALWAYS friendly, clean and inviting. Best $20 I spend each month. This particular location got a remodel, so it now has a cardio/ cinema room, a team training room, as well as the normal amenities (cardio, weights, group exercise room, locker rooms, hydro massage etc). I've been a member of Chuze since 2010 and have paid on time since then. With COVID and the outdoor gym setup I fell off of going to the gym and did home workouts, but continued to pay my membership so I could keep the benefits. I paid over $300 for nothing because I've always loved this gym, the environment, and the people who work here. I got a new debit card and called in to change it back in February and they advised they could not do this over the phone, so I went in to change it. They said because the billing cycle was finishing I couldn't pay and needed to come back in to handle it later. Twice I attempted to pay and twice I was told I couldn't. A few months go by and I decided to get back to the gym so I went in to pay the back due amount and get back to my regular schedule. The ladies at the front advised me I could not get my original membership back and that I needed to pay a $50 fee on top of the $50 annual fee. I was annoyed by this as I've been a member for 12 years but said I would sign up for a basic membership and also have my boyfriend sign up since I no longer have guest privileges. My boyfriend didn't have his ID so they said he couldn't register, I said I'd register and he could just do a day pass then sign up next time and they said no since he didn't have an ID. He's come with my multiple times as a guest with no ID and now he's refused. The customer service level to a loyal member of this company for years was absolutely atrocious. I would have been loyal for another 12 years but we will be giving our business to another company who is more focused on customer service from here on out. read more

To start no enough benches, not enough lat bars, you have to wait for the machines, is a small club and they decide do a boot camp inside in a club with NO room, the only area where you can workout on the floor is busy and you can't use the equipment arround. The bathroom is disgusting, super dirty, pee on the floor, toilet super dirty, the floor is super dirty and always stinks, maybe they clean once a week. I been in another clubs and I never saw a bathroom like those, it's a shame. read more

I've been a lifter since 1983, I've held memberships over the years at nearly every major fitness chain(Gold's, World, 24hr fitness, LA fitness, etc.) I been coming to the Chuze in Santee since it first opened and have seen their evolution; new equipment, training areas. For the price point it cant be beat. Well maintained equipment, friendly staff, low intensity members. I've had issues with the app, and you need to read the fine print on your membership agreement-Definitely not a big deal. Considering other operations where you have to pay hundreds up front to get a membership and 30% of the equipment is out of order cause it's ancient and worn out. I've had dues free months with rewards points, which they don't have to even offer, but do. Santee is doing a major locker room renovation and kept basic dues at $9.99 even after the lockdown when every gym is struggling to keep their doors open. Yes, there is always going to be those little annoyances, but pound for pound it's a great operation. read more
