It cost me over $500 to just get a single entry japan visa, although I requested to get a multi entry one. They didn't communicate with me about the extra documents for a multi entry visa. After I submitted the application, I had to call them for some questions, and the representative had no idea what they were doing. He couldn't directly answer my questions and just repeated something unrelated. The whole process took over 1 month. After I came back from the trip, I planed to go again, so I applied for the e-visa online and it only took me $22 and exactly 5 business days to get the visa issued. read more

Complete crooks. Expensive, unprofessional, unresponsive. They charged upwards of $1000 for a Chinese visa - my first. It was supposed to be a 10-year visa. CIBT got me a 6-month visa instead and provided no follow-up, advice, warnings or reminders of any kind. I planned travel assuming I had the 10-year visa I requested and got stuck at the airport. Thankfully I did not arrive in China on a non-valid visa and have even more serious repercussions. Their 'customer service' never replied to my request for help. Utterly unacceptable. Requested CIBT for service to obtain a tourist visa to China. Their website is friendly and if you did it right on the first time, you're lucky. I paid the expedited fee (it was a waste of money, I still had to call the main customer service number and wait 15min to 35min for someone to answer. After they answer they will tell you that there even though all the new/updated document looks right, you have to wait for the team in India to review and approve. Bottom line, my Visa came late, and a lost my trip. I do not recommend using CIBT read more

Although I have had better experiences, CIBT let me down this time. I accepted the full service (incl. personal consultant). They started by saying it would be difficult to have my China Visa in time but doable. And I had a week slag left in. I completed the required info in 1 day (nightwork) and had to wait 3 days for their review. When turning the application in, my consultant could not provide an estimate when it would be submitted. The consulate accepts a limited number. Bringing the documents to CIBT San Francisco they gave me a date which fitted well. After passing the date, they informed me of delays. Again, no indication how long, where I was in the queu etc. Then they said the only way out would be for me to go myself to the consulate. I paid $450 to get no service, instead so much delay that I missed my application window. Without CIBT I would have had my Visa (and $450 saved) read more

I cannot say enough about how amazing CIBT was during a very tricky and complicated few weeks for our family. We had our two minor children's photos accidentally switched on their passport submissions and had to jump through a ton of hoops to get it fixed within 2 weeks before we left for Ireland. To start, there was an amazing woman who helped me get through a very high stress situation at the USPS passport office (the worker was so rude and unhelpful I ended up in tears). Then we worked with the amazing Steven and team in SF who, with only 3 days left, worked their tails off and got us our kids passports this week. We are able to go on this very important, very meaningful family trip now solely due to CIBT and their help! We're endlessly grateful. read more

Stressful and ultimately time-wasting experience. I recently had to renew my UK passport before traveling out of the US. Thinking, incorrectly as it turned out, that CIBTvisas would assist in expediting the form-filling, delivery, and return of the passport, I made my application. CIBTvisas's form with respect to the UK process is actually out of date. I discovered it's been out of date for months. One confusing aspect is that part of the CIBTvisas process is being asked to interact with the government's own website. First, what am I paying for here then? Second, and this is very confusing, but the UK government passport renewal process is actually pretty streamlined and straightforward: there's absolutely no need for anyone else to get involved, especially when the agent seem unclear themselves on what they're supposed to be doing. In person the experience was poor--they're nice people but just seem out of their depth, asking me for the same info over and over, and being unsure of the process. Eventually they called a more senior advisor who said there was no advantage in using them to post the documents! At that point I didn't feel like going to Fedex in addition to this so had CIBTvisas do it anyway. I ended up having to clarify a situation with UK Gov directly where CIBTvisas requested having the passport returned to them, "We will not normally send your passport to an address that is different from your current residential address and so cannot guarantee that your request will be granted." I then gave UK Gov my US home address since clearly this wasn't going well with CIBTvisas. UK Gov explained, "Thank you for your e-mail. I asked for you to clarify your alternative address as there was an authorization letter enclosed with the application from CIBT Visas requesting the documents be returned to them. I have now completed your application and your passport should be with you in 7-10 working days to your home address." Good news is I made it out to my vacation on time with a renewed passport. I followed up with a complaint to CIBTvisas which they ignored and yet had the audacity to bill me anyway. I escalated to vendor relations through my company that contracts with them to finally get a refund. Ugh! read more

I have used CIBT for years with good success...for Visa's to Brazil, China, Thailand, Venezula, Saudi Arabia and others. This occasion was different...received a call from a snotty young man, telling me that the India Consulate was FuXXed up, overloaded and not able to accept documents from their (CIBT) company. What I ask are you talking about...? ...Dude...they have changed who they are using to process Visa's...they are FuXXed up, backed up so much that they have weeks of applications not even opened... plus they won't accept applications from us...oh and you didn't fill out the actual application...you filled out a preapplication...you know, there was a hyperlink to the official application. Now if your travel plans are flexible perhaps in a couple weeks I might be able to help. You could try in person but I have seen the cops called to breakup a couple fights... Not only is this company wildly expensive, it is staffed by incompetent folks and collects additional material which it claims is necessary for a visa. Is it selling this data? Hard to tell but there are good reasons to think so. An example: when I tried to use CIBT for a Chinese tourist visa I was told that because I was retired I would have to provide a bank statement to prove I could pay for my trip. I made calls to several other visa companies to see what they thought and in each case was told a bank statement would not be required because I was 70. If these folks are as experienced as they claim, there is no excuse for a demand for a bank statement. read more

Great at the front end, falls apart at the back end. When we received our application kit, I was able to talk to someone on the phone (turned out to be someone in the chicago office named Addie) who was MARVELOUS. Very helpful. Hand held me through the whole thing. I was relieved to be working with a great service, because this young woman was more than helpful, friendly, and truly wonderful. If I could give 5 stars just for her, I would. She deserves them and more. Then my application went to the SF office who would be dealing with the India consulate, and that's when everything went to hell. First I received notice that I was missing a document that had not been listed anywhere on the checklist in the kit I received. I was able to upload it, via an ENORMOUSLY complex online upload system (they seem to be passing off a lot of the more complicated aspects of their jobs to the client, which is a horrific mistake, as clients are far more likely to make mistakes than employees. It would have been far easier to just email the document in an attachment). Then, although the visa seemed to have been processed, I received a phone call that the documents were going to be returned to me directly from the consulate rather than the service, and that maybe the consulate had the wrong address since the consulate told the service it was a different address. To make that even scarier, the agent (Sajeda) had no idea what address the consulate was sending the passport and the visa to. And when I started crying at the idea that the passport was lost (no time to get a replacement, what a nightmare), she laughed at me. I got extremely angry with her at this point. The callousness and disregard for the seriousness of the situation was outrageous. Then she said maybe they meant something different. It was no big deal. I kept pressing to find out what address the consulate was sending the documents to. Then she said it was my job to check the tracking number to see where the heck my passport might be going. Not her problem, not her job. Insane. She made it clear to me that she had no idea what she was doing, what was going on, what might happen to my passport. And that she didn't much care. She sent me an email with an un-openable PDF file that had the tracking number in it. The file had been given the wrong extension and was corrupt. Then she refused to respond to future emails or take calls from me. I was finally able to reach a supervisor who was able to give me all the information I needed. However, NOBODY should ever hear from a passport/visa service that their passport and visa may or may not be shipped to a random address they won't or can't disclose. That's a terrifying hour, let me tell you. It turned out the Indian Embassy had made changes to the system and would only return documents to the address on the application. Which is fine. But don't call and tell me that they told YOU they were sending it to some random DIFFERENT address and that's my problem. While the visa service did their job, they did it in the most terror-inducing and non-helpful way possible. You are sending a service the most important documented ID you have. Choose carefully. I wish I'd chosen better. For the prices they charge (outrageous) they should be far better at sharing information, and should recognize the gravity and seriousness of their job. read more

They only get one star because I did receive my passport in 4 weeks. Otherwise BEWARE! My initial application had errors that I had to correct. OK, I can live with that. BUT! When I got my invoice I was shocked! Here is a breakdown of the fees I was charged! UPS $57.00 renew passport $199.00 Renew Passport - Government fee $170.00 Consular fee$11.73 Inbound shipping label$ 57.00 Concierge service$399.00 TOTAL a whopping $889.73! Seriously? Nowhere did I see this fee (or the others except for the 170.00 and the 199.00) everything else was an unpleasant surprise! My fault for not asking IN ADVANCE what the total fees would be! FAIL. Expensive & did not provide good phone support at their 800 number. Refused to provide a local office phone number or transfer me to a local rep so that I could confirm correct address and cut-off time for courier drop off of passports (was before I realized they were on Yelp). Demanded 50% rush fees (read $500 extra for 4 visas) just to turnaround our applications in 8-10 days. What annoyed me the most is they use an outdated, grainy PDF version of the China Visa Application form which is very difficult to fill in online. I ended up doing a search and found a much clearer, more recent version at the SF China Consulate website. I fail to see the point of paying a processor to send me bad forms when I can download them myself for free? In the end I chose MyChinaVisa processing services instead and was a lot happier. Do your research and choose wisely. There are better services out there than CIBT. read more

My problem was escalated and I was told I would receive a call back shortly. 4 hours at my desk, not moving, so I wouldn't miss the call THAT NEVER CAME. 1 star for delivering the correct visa and returning my passport to me (those are how low your standards should be with CIBT). I should have trusted the reviews on Yelp but they were the recommended vendor for my company so I thought I would give them a chance. BEWARE OF THE HIDDEN FEES - read every single line in the visa application packet because they will add on massive fees on every page. Their "status tracking" page was not very trustworthy (it said my passport was still at the embassy when in reality it was already delivered back to me). I called them several times to get more information and while each employee was friendly, they were not knowledgeable nor eager to provide five-star service. Overall, the process could use a lot of improvement and they could be much more transparent about fees. There was no personal touch with using CIBT. I would highly recommend you look elsewhere for visa services. read more

Their website is detailed, decent customer service, but in no way shape or form, be fooled. You have no idea what comes, when you receive the final invoice..... These guys literally pluck added on fees out of thin air (I was asked to read all the details in small font on their website). Here is a summary of what I paid for one visa through CIBTvisas: Tourist Visa: $160 Indian Tourist Standard Visa Fee: $164 Indian Counselor Application Fee: $22.90 Money Order: $15 UPS Next Day: After dividing by 3, $14 Counselor Processing Fee: After dividing by 3, $10 Digital Photo Service: $26 Grand Total: $411.90 I had recently get another passport done, this time I went through CKGS. Here is summary of what I paid: Tourist Visa: $160 CKGS Service Fee: $19 Shipping Fees (to and from): $30. Total came to: Approx $220. I am going to inquire as to how I can take matters further on why there is such a difference between two companies processing the same thing. When I did call CIBT and stated the shock of what seemed like unfounded fees, the individual blamed it on fees added by Indian authorities. It's pricey, but honestly, do you want to go stand in line at the consulate, hand over your precious passport to people of widely varying stages of competence to process the thing, and "hope for the best", just to save some money? This year's Chinese visa will be my 8th visa through CIBT. Flawless execution every time. The ability to monitor exactly where your documents are at is truly key. Can they lower their prices? Of course. So can Apple, but Apple is not going to do that, because they know they make a product that you need, and that you are terrible at executing yourself. Super painless. We dropped off our paperwork, and before we knew it, CIBT called a week later to let us know our visas were ready for pickup. It couldn't have been smoother or faster. And the woman who handled our documents was very pleasant and efficient. After reading other yelpers' reviews about the $25 per person passport replacement surcharge that you have to actively opt out of, I made a point of checking to see that they hadn't charged us. (They hadn't.) Minus one star for being pricey. But I guess it was worth it for the convenience. read more

We have a business account with them so MAYBE I have a bias. I like that I can drop off the paper work and forget about it. They're very good for visas to China and super efficient. Also, beats the hell out of standing in line at the consulate all morning. In fact, I'm going to have to walk up there and pick up a business visa today. I also like that when you drop off paperwork, the receptionist goes through it before you leave to make sure everything's filled out. FYI their office moved closer to the Transamerica bldg...so no more window shopping at Loehman's when I have to pick up paperwork...boo! On Mon. Feb 28th at 1:25 PM PST, I signed up for the CIBT Concierge/expedited service (Rush Surcharge (4-7 business days processing)) and was promptly sent an email response "Thank you for selecting the CIBTvisas Concierge service Your dedicated specialist will be in touch within the hour during our business hours of 8:30am to 5:30pm CT Monday through Friday". I still had not heard back from them by Weds (2 days later) so I called them and was told that Mondays and Tuesdays are very busy and I had just been assigned a specialist who would be calling me shortly. Several hours later, I finally receive the call at the doctors office. I race back home and fill out their questionnaire so that they can fill out my application. When I receive the completed application, it has multiple errors and took them two more tries to get the errors corrected. It would have been easier to fill the application myself. They send you a FedEx label via email as part of their service to send the signed application with photo but they charge an extra fee for sending using their label. After two FedEx trips (second one they wanted a new photo as mine was the same as my one year old passport), I ended up driving to the SF office as they now want my expired passport. They should have asked me to provide the expired passport in advance. As time was an issue and I live in the East Bay, I called my specialist (who is in Chicago office) and offered to drive the expired passport to the SF office. My specialist contacted the SF office and then told me the SF office would hold their courier until I arrived but NOT. The guy at the front desk yelled at me when I asked to see a Visa Specialist to explain the situation. It was only after I burst into tears that a specialist finally talked to me. I finally received my "expedited" VIsa on Tuesday March 14 along with a bill of $798.12 (by the way I paid for my own FedEx instead of using their labels). Their Concierge service/expedited service is a total rip off. Not worth the extra ($299 +$149) $448. read more

CIBT communicated the status very well and provided tracking numbers for the packages. I am giving one star because of the $25 passport replacement fee. I did see on the application (very very bottom) regarding the service and I left the box unchecked. BUT, I didn't read it carefully...you need to check the box to DECLINE the service. CIBT totally left me hanging... wow. Do it yourself if you can - is my advice. I had exactly 4 business days before my flight and submitted everything for two work visas -expedited service. I spoke to a few different agents on the phone (their 1-800 number) to make sure everything was being received and handled quickly. After 2 days when I hadn't received my Viet Nam visa I called again to learn that CIBT had not even started working on my visas. They had no apologies, no offers to make it right, they refused to send a courier ("we don't do that" the manager told me) In addition to all the apathy, they were full of misinformation: such as the VN consulate only accepts their visa applications during a small window of time early in the morning, and that the VN consulate takes two business days at the very least, so I was out of luck. (another fib) Some of the people I spoke with were super nice, but completely misinformed about their own services and visas and the rules for each country, and they talk with confidence on the subject. This is completely disturbing. I finally went to the VN consulate myself at 2:30 that afternoon, where for $30 extra (the work visa is $150 fyi) I received my visa in 15 minutes. The consulate was full of couriers for other services who informs me CIBT has plenty or couriers, so they were totally holding out on me. An interesting fact, is that they do not charge you until you receive your visas, so I suppose they feel they have no obligated to follow through on your order if for some reason it gets screwed up. The "manager" at the call center (based in Texas) said she would call me back in one hour with a solution. She never called at all. one star for CIBT. read more

I delt with some office of CIBT via phone & email. I do not know if it was the San Francisco office. Was trying to get an expedited replacement passport. Extremely poor experience. Waited on hold, twice, for about 10 minutes with their customer service, who never did answer the phone. Sent them an email requesting a return call. Never got one. Short story is that I needed to supply an old passport (which I had) for identification for a replacement for one that was recently stolen. My question that never got answered because they wouldn't pick up a call after 10 minutes or honor my request for a phone call was "could I use a very old passport for identification?". With no response, I sent it anyway & lo & behold, it could NOT be used because it was older than 10 years. So CIBT graciously sent it back to me and charged my credit card $39.50 for a mailing label to receive my passport that didn't work & another $39.50 to return it to me overnight. My emails complaining of the fees went unanswered, so I'll try to get my moneys worth here. I got this done for $125 at the post office & a 1.5 hour wait in line. AND the post office was happy to use my old passport for identification. My suggestion is to stay far away from CIBT, as many other reviews here suggest. read more

I needed a Visa to visit China and had no time to go to San Francisco to sit in line at the consulate, nor was I clear as to the requirements, especially the new photo requirements. CIBTvisas was recommended to me and I couldn't be happier. Website made everything very clear and easy. They reviewed all of my materials. They called to let me know I left out an attachment that would be required by the consulate and I was able to upload and send it to them to prevent any delay. I received regular email updates (info received; passport received, etc). They even called to talk to let me know it wouldn't be necessary to pay extra for an expedited visa as I had plenty of time. It was expensive, but worth every penny. Highly recommend their services, especially if you're not in or near a city with a consulate and/or are on a tight timeline, as was I. read more

Very inefficient and slow. Their systems make you input the same items over and over again. You're basically filling out all the forms on your own, then they will go to the embassy and return them to you. Try calling them on the phone, and they will put you on hold for 20 minutes then tell you they have to transfer you to another department. Expect you'll be cut off numerous times before finding the right person to talk to. I have no issues paying for premium service, but in CIBT's case, they don't seem eager to please or make things easier at all. Not recommended. read more

Since I'll be an exchange student in Denmark, I needed a resident permit in order to stay in Denmark for 5 months. The entire process and knowing what documents to bring was a bit confusing between my school's international office, the Danish visa website, and what others have told me. I called Travisa via the number on the website and the man on the phone informed me that they would not collect my passport, only a copy, while my friends who went through the process said, yes they do take your passport. I'm leaving the country in a few days and i was nervous about getting my passport back in time. My friend advised me to at least attend my appointment and explain my situation. I was prepared to tell them that they couldn't take my passport, and if it came down to it, I would just apply for my permit in Denmark. Turns out the person who I talked to on the phone was from VFS Global's call center, and they are not the most reliable. So I went in on a Tuesday after booking my appointment two weeks prior. First of all, they explained everything to me thoroughly and I luckily had all the documents needed. My case worker, Binesh, was confident that if I was leaving the country on Sunday, my passport would definitely get back by Thursday or Friday. Looking back, this makes sense, because they charge a courier fee of $60 ($30 each way to and from NY) whether the applicant urgently needs it back or not. He also gave me a copy of the shipping label so that I was able to track my package from when it was shipped out by the consulate general in NY. I left my passport with them Tuesday morning, it traveled to NYC and back to my house by Thursday evening. All the costs for the visa added up to an exorbitant amount, almost $600. Out of this Travisa only takes $30, so I wouldn't take away stars for the high price. Not too bad considering the overall costs but wow. '... I'm in San Francisco, just like all the paperwork says.') - Doubtful reading comprehension again (After having my passport for 2 days, they noticed that it had a tourist visa, not business, as I requested) - Far-from-confidence-inducing communication style ('Can you assure me I'll have my passport back in time to travel?' 'Like I said ma'am, so far as I know the consulate will get the passport on Monday...' - i.e. no actual reassurance.) All in all, a confusing and stressful process - I feel no faith that I'll have my passport when my plane takes off and, worse, I feel no faith that they'll make an effort to let me know what's going on in time for me to make any alternate plans. read more

CIBT's Vietnam visa application was completely confusing. The process was more work than applying for a visa directly through the Vietnam consulate. I was willing to pay for the convenience, but it was actually more difficult. I also found out my friend was OVERCHARGED $500 by CIBT and was fighting to get her money back. Absolutely the worst. Avoid this route at all cost. I needed a visa for Thailand (which costs 60 USD) and was charged around 300. I chose this 3rd party because my trip was about 2.5 weeks out and I wanted to ensure the visa came quick with no hassle. That was the opposite of what happened; CIBT did not have the proper documents which delayed it about a week- so I received my visa one business day before my flight. Needless to say I could have saved way more time, money, and stress by doing it myself. In retrospect I should have booked a throw away plane ticket out of Thailand in order to circumvent the visa process. read more

Fast turnaround time and fairly painless to get a business visa for India, considering the horror stories I had heard about the process. It's definitely on the pricey side, but it was worth it for me to not have to stand around at the consulate / visa office for days to get this done. I would give zero if I could. I will never use them again. Apathetic, not clear they actually even did anything for the 3 weeks of " service" to not get me a visa. Nor did they advise me of other options. Never use this company if you actually care about the outcome. read more
