This place is an absolute racket. My husband accidentally went there because he had an appointment at the US passport agency. Instead of notifying him of his mistake, they charged nearly $1000 in services and made him go to the post office and back again, saying he'd have to come back at the end of the week to get his passport. This place is a scam and full of dishonest people! They are NOT the official US passport agency. When someone comes in saying, "I have an appointment for my Urgent passport service," they should be telling them, "Oh, you mean at the SF Passport Agency at 450 Golden Gate Ave." Not fleecing them by overcharging and over complicating a process that is supposed to only cost $60 and be completed same day directly at the US Passport Agency. The travel.gov website has everything you need to know to make an urgent appointment for passport services (if you're traveling in less than two weeks). These slime ball excuses for humans at the Passport Depot should be telling people about the official SF passport agency and how to actually get a passport under the Urgent program. Not charging ridiculous fees and making them go to the central post office and back, when that's not actually necessary. I wonder how many other unsuspecting people they tricked into thinking that they were the official passport agency and that their fees were normal. Needed a renewal on a somewhat constrained timeline since I've also been using my passport as my Real ID/for domestic travel in addition to its normal function, and I was not about to go back to the DMV for a new license. I selected the 5-7 expedited option just for additional peace of mind. Dropped materials off on Friday knowing they wouldn't go in until Monday. My renewal was processed and approved in 24 hours (approved Tuesday, picked up by Passport Depot Wednesday) and my passport was delivered back to my house on Thursday. I also got a passport card this time around because it seems like a good idea in 2025 - that was delivered a few days later by mail since it's dispatched from a different office. I was happy to wait the full estimated timeline but was so pleased I had my passport back even earlier than the earliest estimate. Michael was friendly and helpful and while it's totally possible to navigate the renewal process on your own, which I did last time, it was so nice to have someone backstopping me to double check everything and move things along. Expediting is a decent chunk of money but it was totally worth it to avoid the weeks-long wait and the stress that can come with it. I can't recommend Passport Depot highly enough. read more

Forget SF passport agency, online expeditors, Embassy, or calling the senator. Michael at Passport Depot is the best there is. We got my 2-year-old son a new passport for an urgent international trip (the trip was about 7 days from time of contacting Michael), and we got the passport in 3 days after submitting our packet to Michael. There was a little legwork for a new passport. You must go to USPS Walk-in at 1300 Evans and line up at 5:30AM. Yes, we were there with our son and we were second in line; sometimes they shut down the walk-in line, as they did when we were there. It was shut down at 6:45AM. Anyway, we got it done. Michael guided us regarding lining up at USPS and his advice was sound. After everything is signed and sealed, Michael will take care of it and you will get your passport in the requested time if you pay the fee. It is a hefty fee. 100% worth it. It was such a JOY working with Michael. I needed an expedited China visa for a colleague and Michael was patient and clear in his explanation of the process (via email and phone), thorough in checking the application, and very importantly, we received the visa in the agreed upon window. He can even help with the picture process, although we were able to take care of that digitally. This saved us the angst of going directly to the Chinese consulate, with the reassurance that an expert set of eyes checked the application. Although the expediter fee can be pretty costly I think it is worth it if you urgently need the renewal. Ten days prior to my trip to Mexico I discovered my passport had expired. Naturally, I panicked, then went to the inter-web only to read all about passports, even expedited ones, taking 5-11 months to get renewed. They can really do what they say they can! I had my passport in 3 days. In this post-Covid world, where everyone's trying to make up for lost travel opportunities, that's no easy feat.
