The location is great, it's gated, and at first glance it feels like the perfect spot to take kids, especially if you're just trying to kill time like we were before a flight. But I'm going to be real, the safety concerns completely changed the experience for me. It gets VERY crowded, and there's a big mix of people coming in and out. There were tons of kids, which is expected, but a lot of them were not supervised and were honestly pretty rough/mean. It didn't feel like a calm, safe environment where you can just let your kids play without constantly hovering. Also... the slides were SO hot. Like, borderline unusable hot. That alone was frustrating. The biggest issue for me though was the bathrooms. They are far from the main play area, and as a mom, there was no way I felt comfortable letting my kids go alone. When I did go, the bathrooms were extremely dirty, and I noticed syringes in a nearby area which was honestly alarming. That completely shifted my level of comfort. It also gave off the vibe that it's a place where people hang out who aren't necessarily there for the park, if that makes sense. I will say again, the park itself is beautiful and has so much potential. But just because it's gated doesn't mean it's actually safe. If you go, just be VERY vigilant, especially if you have more than one child. This is not a "sit back and relax" kind of park in my opinion.

The full name of the playground is the Lizbeth Benaquisto Inclusive Playground, in honor of the former state senator who pushed the legislation that set aside state funds for the playground."We were very particular there was going to be a playground that was successful for kids with very unique abilities," Benaquisto said at a January 2021 council meeting. "They have never had a safe place to play." The playground has swings, slides, and numerous climbing structures. I love all of the uniquely Florida touches like the puffer fish, manatee, and the Model T car in honor of Henry Ford who had a winter home in the city along with Thomas Edison. This is one of the nicest playgrounds I have ever seen and the kids playing on it we're having a ball. Best of all it is ADA accessible so children of all abilities can enjoy it. The new playground is a fantastic addition to Centennial Park.

I had come across some bad business practices and other gig workers, who left me less than impressed, and almost defeated. Finally came across Mr Richard's information (aka The Critterman). I dialed Richard's number, with low expectations. Richard picked up on the 2nd ring. When I tell you how energized and enthusiastic he sounded, I truly mean enthusiastic. He told me all about what his animal show consisted of, had me text him the date and time to confirm. He followed up with me a week prior, and the day before our event. He even recommended that he come 30 minutes after the party was scheduled to start, to ensure most of the kids had arrived to enjoy the event. On the big day, the party started at 2pm. He showed up promptly at 2:30pm with his wife and their animals. Because of the pandemic, he required that all guests wanting to touch/hold the animals wore masks. He started by introducing himself to the group. The birthday girl was going to be his "helper." He brought out each animal, one at a time, had my daughter hold the animal, then it was the group's turn. He brought a turtle, a snake, prairie dog, bunny, baby alligator, argentine tegu, and I feel like even more that I can't recall!! These animals were meticulously cared for, and interacted well with lots of kids hands. They weren't skiddish, afraid or anything. I highly recommend Richard and his wife for any age group parties! Let's let the pictures do the rest of the talking :).

The park's trails are short and easy to navigate, winding along shaded paths that take you along the water's edge. While we didn't spot any manatees on this visit, it was still a nice, relaxing stop. Instead, we saw plenty of rabbits, squirrels, and lizards along the way. There's also a small fishing dock where people were casting lines, and if you're looking for something a bit more adventurous, you can rent kayaks at a nearby location within the park. We stayed for about an hour, enjoying the sunshine and slow pace before heading out. It was the perfect low-key outing -- light activity, peaceful surroundings

They have lined the bottom of the viewing area with black plastic and the water looks very murky as a result. We saw a few fish leap out of the water, less than a dozen lizards VC and the top few inches of one alligator. Parking was $2 an hour and easy to pay with a C QR code. The bathrooms were clean and there is a cut gift shop with a nice variety of items. The walking trails were plenty close to nature while still feeling protected from the alligators. They had a few volunteers available to talk to as well.

Yes, they have a rideable train that goes on a one mile loop that circles out and back! The train tickets are purchased at the museum office and for us, only $5 each. The nice lady who sold the tickets let us know that the train would be departing in about 20 minutes at that gave us plenty of time to explore the museum, perusing the exhibits and watching the miniature train sets circle the table. Other than my Mom, I think I was probably the oldest person on the train and we both had a complete blast. The ride takes 15 minutes and sweeps through a number of similarly miniature villages and over clang-clang-clang railroad crossings and even through a 100 foot long tunnel. It's extremely cute and for $5, how can you possibly not enjoy yourself! Afterwards, there are outdoor exhibits that include a cosmetically restored 1905 locomotive and tender, and a completely restored caboose. Tip: Check ahead for their hours of operation. They are only open on weekends (and Labor Day!). Rides on the train are first come first serve. You'll have a better ride closer to the front if you can. The park has several places to see and visit. There is a large parking lot so parking should not be a problem. The Railroad Museum and railroad are to the right as you enter. The museum is hard to miss as there is a large railroad engine visible from the parking lot that is across the walkway from a large building that houses the museum. The museum is inside a building behind the jungle gym next to the parking lot. The museum is free. It is a large room with several operating scale trains running around the center and near the roof. There is at least one hands-on display that you can see the operating console for an engineman. There are lots of informational displays situated around the room describing the history of trains and the railroad museum. There is a lot to read and a lot of history associated with trains, Florida, and the Fort Myers area. If you have a chance, I highly recommend spending a few dollars and getting a ticket to ride the train right outside the museum. For any train enthusiast this is a must-see in the area.
