We visited on July 25, 2026 at 7:17 PM. Strike 1: Health and Sanitation Issue: Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated in the second booth on the right, that fits four people comfortably. Wood damage near the window fronting the main parking lot. We couldn't ask to move because we took the last seats for the evening. I killed three bugs by grabbing paper towels from the women's washroom at different times because they were coming up from the wood. Then my teenager informed me not to kill the last bug because he sees ants crawling up and will carry the last bug to their home. I couldn't see ants on my side. He was right. Carpenter ants carried the fourth dead bug back inside the damaged wood. I asked my husband and son if they wanted to leave the restaurant and we could eat elsewhere. They said no I think we'll be OK. Strike 2: Lack of communication: Our female Server kept refilling my husband's beverage without informing us or not providing an apology there will be a longer wait time for a reason. Strike 3: Wait time: Our meals took one hour to arrive at our table without any apology. Food: Berry Bison Bramble burger with fries was phenomenal! Bison Patty with blackberry jam, including fresh blackberries, crumbled, goat cheese, spinach, tomatoes, and sautéed mushrooms served on a pretzel bun took this burger to a whole new level. Womens' washroom has a beautiful decor and interior design, stocked with hygiene products at no charge. Free parking in a dedicated lot. I gave two stars for the reasons listed above. Stopped for lunch on my way back to Edmonton. Had the burger of the month developed with a local city councilor. It was a bison burger with lots of good stuff on it including some fruit. Mango I think. It all worked good together. Also had the soup of the day which was Asian chicken noodle. It was good too. Like pretty standard chicken soup but different noodles. Stopped in on a whim on our way back to North Dakota from Jasper National Park & I'm so glad we did! These guys ticked all the boxes. Party of 2 @ 345pm. The hostess seated us immediately at a booth inside, at our request. It was hot out & we'd been riding since morning. When we said we'd never been in, we got the quick run down. The server was EXTREMELY helpful & knew the menu well. She even warned me that the "meal" I was ordering was a drink as, apparently, people often order thinking it's a salad. She was very jovial & non-intrusive while still being readily available... best service I've had this trip. Serving temps were perfect - flavor combinations were well thought out & it was simply a fun menu. We even forced a dessert down - which, as divine as it was, wasn't hard - I slapped my spoon on the sugar and it cracked like any good brule does. Gave this a try after 4 months and there was definitely improvement! We were a bit disappointed they sold out of prime rib, but we arrived quite late for dinner 745pm. We sat on the patio which was a nice option. We had coffee cocktails to start, which were really yummy and not too sweet. We ordered the sweet plum rib bites as an appy which were really good. I had the maple pecan salmon main and my date had the Irvings Saskatoon bbq riblings. Both dishes were really tasty. Service was good (a new girl was shadowing). I would definitely return! read more

Service was excellent and the menu was very interesting - some twists on the typical menu. I enjoyed the bacon and jalapeño mac and cheese. Husband had the burger of the month which was a smash burger with tater tots on the side ( thought this was a very fun option). Both of us enjoyed our meal but didn't find the food outstanding. Stopped in here during my visit to Red Deer a colleague insisted i should try it and they were right as they themselves has been very impressed on past visits. I got there on a Tuesday and was introduced to the menu by Amelia.. the hostess - being 'on my tod' i sat at the bar where Kat kept me watered. I tried the 1/2 order of Poutine with the Canadian Burger. Wow the meat was incredibly tender and the Poutine very flavorful without being overpowering, really enjoyed it. Finished off with a Vanilla Creme Brûlée.. jeez really lovely. Great experience the whole staff were attentive and friendly. Defo 5* read more

So in general, really well done. Diverse menu, casual but comfortable atmosphere, food is tasty. Our server was great despite being completely full and run off her feet. I love the cocktail, Caesar, mocktail, and coffee flights. This time I did the Caesar flight. It was fun to try. For sure the spicy one ws my favourite. Food was good and we have travelled to Lacombe with the same menu. I have to say, the food wasn't quite as tasty as in Lacombe. I was annoyed that the tuna had the same plating and sauces as the Caprese salad, The mussels were better in Lacombe even though it was the same recipe. The duck wings were slightly overcooked. Was it good. Yep. Would I go back there...maybe I would stop in Lacombe first. However, if you want somewhere with clean tasty food give it a try. read more

Don't love it here. The last time we tried to go we sat for 25 minutes and nobody came. We let the hostess know we were going to head out, and just said what happened and she didn't seem to care, so we didn't press the issue. This was like 2-3 in the afternoon so post lunch rush. Previous visits the food is oily, over salted, and just nothing special. It's very expensive, to not fully love the food. It is a beautiful space though! They have done very well with that. Eventually we may try it again and see if some of the kinks have been worked out or changed. read more

My hubby and I dined at the Cilantro and Chive on a Friday evening, after reading the reviews elsewhere and seeing their amazing menu. We did make a reservation online and glad we did. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived and there was a bit of a waitlist to get in. Since I had made the reservation, we did get seated right away. Our server, Estelle was great! She came by our table shortly after we were seated and since we had never dined there before, I did have a few questions about the menu. They have a great food selection, and an even better drink menu! Of alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices. My husband got the Kinabik pint and I got the mocktail flight board. Our drinks did take a little longer to come out, but Estelle apologized for the wait and honestly it really wasn't too long of a wait. My flight board had a Lavender lemonade, Fuzzy Peach Slush, Raspberry mojito and peach mule (all non-alcholic). Normally I'm not a huge lavender fan, but it was my favorite drink! All of them were super tasty and refreshing! The restaurant was participating in the Alberta on a Plate event and I ordered their Bison meatballs and spaghetti and my spouse ordered the fish and chips. Our meals took a little longer to come out (and this time we did notice the wait), around 25 minutes to come out. But we were enjoying our drinks and the ambiance. My spaghetti entrée was a good size, and tasted great! The cheese filled bison meatballs were very tasty and the spaghetti was good as well. I do wish that my dish was slightly warmer, but that didn't stop me from enjoying my meal. My husbands fish and chips were very crispy and seasoned well. The fish pieces could have been a little bit bigger, but he was happy with his meal. We didn't have room for dessert, which was disappointing, but overall we were super happy with our meals and our dining experience! Estelle was a great server and very pleasant. Fast and friendly service, the food was very good. Some of the food seems a little spicy which may not suit some people (e.g. the chipotle aioli was spicier than I've had elsewhere, and the bison burger had some spice to it). If you're in Red Deer or Lacombe you gotta eat here! We came all the way from Edmonton for the weekend brunch and we were not disappointed! We arrived early and had to wait for a server to arrive and a new section to open up but it wasn't too long. During the wait we poured over the menu and had decided on our order. Once we got a table the we service was excellent and the food came out promptly. The food itself was perfectly balanced. Enough seasoning to allow the ingredients to shine. Now that may sound simple and obvious but many restaurants have not mastered this technique. Even an item like a cream pickle soup was not overpowering and made you coming back for more. Honestly I don't even want to suggest a specific menu item because the 6 dishes (salad, burger, soup, sides, entree, and breakfast staple) we ordered were all great. The next time we eat here we will probably order completely different items and it will still be a great meal. The drip coffee, espresso drinks, and non alcoholic cocktails were all good and paired well with the meal. 5/5 for food, ambiance, service, and price! Eat here! read more

The fries were cold, and hard as a rock. The chicken parm was slimy and the pasta was cold. The server was less than attentive, and she even stated that it was a slow evening. I visited with girlfriends of mine and we all were very impressed. Their drink menu is outstanding. So many options for everyone. My friend does not drink so she was excited to try the virgin cocktail flight. I love the local craft beer selection. Something for everyone. The food is so fresh and well prepared. Came here looking for a new stop to go eat as I frequently drive between Edmonton and Calgary. Me and my brother enjoyed the meal. Why the low rating? I left my vape mod in the restaurant and when I returned no more than 3 min later as I only made it to the red light only to realize I didn't have my vape with me so I turned around. Was told by waitress that it wasn't there and no one had even cleaned my table when I left. This is half true as I seen napkins and the dubble bubble gum in a cup of water on the table, so someone had been to the table. The table was not left like that when I left. An OK meal that cost me $60 ended up costing me over $300 for a lost mod and a replacement. I don't want the waitress to get fired but I hope she gets her car or phone stolen and never returned to her. This can not be rectified as I will never return. Not impressed at all. Came with a group and we're all vaccinated. We had 9 in out group and we're told they wouldn't serve us and we had to leave.. we asked for 2-3 separate tables if this made them more comfortable and they refused and told us to leave. What a joke! The owner posts all over social media he follows the rules and guidlines for Covid, well so does our group hence why we are vaccinated and masked!! Yet asked to leave?? For why? Is your 5 servers that were standing around too incompetent to serve 3 separate tables? Your management needs better training if you have a hope to survive in the industry. Will not ever come tobthis restaurant or recomend it nor will I go into any business affiliated with yours. Like the ones you boast about sponsoring/working with. 3.5 stars. Visited last year and was spectacular. Dropped in for a special occasion this week and - something has changed. Reception was cold for a 4:40 pm entrance. Drinks ordered and food selected. Prompt. No issues. Food arrives. Chicken and pistachio pesto gnocchi for almost $30 was solidly below expectations - dry, no sauce - I mean none. The hired help can't even explain this mishap. Unimpressive and expensive - a miss. The fettuccine with chicken was in the good category. Sufficient yet absent of that special touch one has come to expect from this establishment. The chicken add-on for almost $6 was somewhat inadequate and lacked flavour. Two mains and two 13 oz beers with tip came to $75 CDN. That's roughly a 15% increase over last years experience which included premium drinks. Come for the decor, ambiance. Whether your "food experience" will meet expectations is another matter. I wouldn't be in a hurry to return until management can make the required changes as something has changed at Cilantro and Chive. As always, you be the judge. For real. read more

My family makes a point of stopping here or at the Lacombe location when we drive to Calgary etc. The food is much more creative and fresh than a standard diner/bar, and I appreciate the staff's diligence about Covid and the owners' support for local charities.
