Food is good and the prices are very fair. Customer service is just ok tho. If you order take-out, make sure you ask for plastic cutlery and check to see if everything is there before you get back to work and realize something has been forgotten. If you call or go back for the forgotten food, they make you feel a burden to how busy they are. Also, if you and a friend both order a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, you have to ask them to put it into TWO SEPARATE containers. If you don't, they put it all into ONE container! I learned that the hard way tho when I thought they forgot one of the sides of potatoes cuz we only got one container and when I went back to pick up what I thought were forgotten potatoes, I was told by the mgr that the kitchen put both sides into one container so my friend and I ate like savages out of one container! Although I feel I'm giving these guys a pretty generous score (I would rather give 3.5 stars), and I haven't been there for a while now, I've always walked out of there having had a decent experience. The staff have always been generally quite friendly. If they get to know you better, they get even more entertaining. Usually I go there for wings. As I'm not a fan of most sauced wings (I like mine more crispy), I order the cajun wings. I don't understand why they don't have lemon pepper (like pretty much every single other place that does wings), but the cajun are fine. If you order a Caesar, it comes with a pickled string bean. If they like ya, you might be able to get two in there. The atmosphere itself is decent, and if you just want to sit up at the bar, you can do that. I've had some proper meals there too, and have always been pleasantly surprised. read more

I've been to OJ's a handful of times. Usually a good experience with tasty pub fare. Last time I went, we were on a schedule and nobody came to serve us for about 20 minutes. We walked out, still without service, and rushed to eat a wrap across the street. Made me think of that picture of someone writing with ketchup on the table, "We waited 30 minutes, no service." Only been here once for a business lunch and we both had the PACIFIC RIM NOODLE SOUP and OMG, it is the BEST! I've been telling my boyfriend about it and can't wait to go back. Love the OJs chain, and this location is an example of why. Really good atmosphere, with great open windows and patio. Food is great, and service to match. I only really visit Red Deer for business, and have made a point of coming here every time. A safe bet, that doesn't seem to disappoint. Had the ACE Burger, but have had Steak Sandwich, Fish Tacos; and all have been great. Only downfall is parking really. read more

Original Joe's has a pub like feel to it. I didn't know this until reading another review, but apparently Original Joe's is a chain. Then, I'm pretty impressed. I only had their sweet potato fries with dill dip & a Dad's root beer, but I absolutely can't wait to return! Deeeee-lish! I vaguely remember eating there once a few years back, & what I remembered were those sweet potato fries. They were just as good the second time around only I wish they had been waffle cut like my imagination remembers. :D Service was excellent. We had a group of ladies with 6 different bills. There were no mistakes, & everything was served promptly. One complaint. The lighting in our corner by the front door was very fickle. Our server was VERY nice, but she forgot drink orders, brought out half our food about 10 minutes before the other half of the table (awkward for everybody) and there were just inconsistencies in service all over the place. For those of you from out of town or away, Original Joe's (or OJ's to the locals), is an Alberta chain restaurant serving a variety of pub and low-end gastropub food. This is Red Deer's location. I've been to this location a few times, and it's typically not the best of the OJ's I've been to. Daytime parking is terrible (4 free spots in front, and the rest are paid street or lot parking), and the dark atmosphere with tea lights on the tables makes it tough for a lot of people to read the menu - I'e had to pull out my phone's flashlight on more than one occasion for a friend to decide on their meal. This said, I know it's a favourite go-to of a lot of people, whether it's for the sports bar/restaurant fusion this place has, or some other reason, I'm unsure. My most recent experience was last night. Just getting off of work, my boyfriend and I decided to head to OJ's for dinner. 6pm, and it wasn't overly busy. We were vaguely greeted and told to grab a table anywhere. It looked like the quieter back area at the front was closed off (super dark with no other people there) so we headed to a table that had recently been emptied out. It took a few minutes for one server to clean the table, and a few more before our server greeted us. We ordered our drinks, and browsed the menu before ordering. Our waitress was away or busy, so we didn't see much of her until the food came out via another waitress. No questions about our drinks or if we needed refills (I had a coffee, and my boyfriend a beer). I had ordered a turkey club wrap, and having had one the other day, requested extra mayo, knowing the turkey might be a bit dry. No surprise - it was. Unfortunately, either my request was ignored (it wasn't shown on my bill), or the wrap was just poorly built so the mayo was nowhere near the turkey inside the wrap. I was planning on requesting a side of ranch to dip the wrap in when the waitress came back to check on us - as is customary of someone serving you. I ate my side of poutine and caesar salad (neither of which was particularly noteworthy), and waited. And I waited. Empty coffee cup, empty water glass, and more than 3/4 of my wrap sitting on my plate, and I waited. Finally the waitress hopped up to the table to ask how things were with the least sincere ask possible. She was already leaving before I could tell her I needed a refill for my coffee and a side of ranch for my wrap. She left, and about 5 minutes later came back with coffee, telling me that the side would be out soon. And so I waited. Finally, more than 10 minutes after I'd requested my side, it came out via a different waitress. I finished off half of my wrap, and we grabbed our bills. No question of whether to split them or give them separate - she separated them without asking (despite me wanting to pick up both). Not only did I have to wait for a ridiculous amount of time to get a side that the waitress could have just grabbed herself, but I was charged for the tablespoon of ranch that I ordered as well. I tipped a standard amount, on account of the fact that I'm sure every other employee that helped us deserved their share, but our waitress was terrible - terribly slow, terribly insincere, and terribly antisocial. I intend to email OJ's about this experience as well - customers deserve better. If the service was more consistent and the food worth the price you paid, I might be more towards the 3 star rating, but as it stands, you spend a lot of time waiting on the wait staff, and the inconsistency of the food is one of the few consistent things about OJ's in Red Deer. I might be back, but there are other places near enough that it won't be my first choice, and I'll probably tell my coworkers by word of mouth of what this experience was like. read more

I personally wasn't a huge fan for the price we paid. My boyfriend and I both ordered the steaks, they were cooked "okay" but a little more fat then I like which made me feel like they were pretty pricey for what we actually got out of them, but thats just me. He enjoyed his just fine. The service was also okay, but not great. Took forever for refills, forever for our bill to come, and forever for our food to come. The service was definitely lacking. We used a combination of my GPS and trip advisor. My GPS had directed us to a restaurant that was no longer there. We then wandered around and found a couple restaurants, and checked out the menu's either outside or inside the restaurant or online. We then checked the ratings on Trip advisor and chose this one. When we first arrived, we were promptly acknowledge and told to pick a spot anywhere. There was however no worry that a table would not be cleaned already when we sat down as I have experienced in other locations. I was not aware this was a chain restaurant, but they have several locations all over Alberta. Maybe it was because we were hungry, but this place did not disappoint. The food was awesome and filling, and we each tried the other dishes ordered which consisted of a Sgt Pepper Burger, Cajun Chicken Burger, and Grilled Cheese Burger, quinoa salad, honey slaw (cold slaw). The décor is nice, and the washrooms are clean and well maintained. We would definitely visit here, or any of the other locations again and wish they had Original Joe's here in Ontario. read more

Creme brulee was badass as well. If you get the dirt pie for desert the half order is pretty big, no need to splurge on the full order! I will be back no question. The food was good all three times I visited this location, it's the service that makes me never want to return. The first time we visited the food was good, the drinks were good, the waitress was good. There was however one issue... there was an extremely drunk woman at the bar making a scene. We were seated in the far corner(as far away from her in the room as we possibly could have sat) and we could clearly hear everything she yelled. As she sat there(and climbed on the bar and stood on her chair occasionally) we wondered why such a nice place would allow this behavior. The next two times we visited, the drunk woman from the bar was our server. The food was still good those two times and the place was still nice but this server was nothing like the one we had on our first visit. She forgot drinks, forgot to place our food order the one time, had poor server etiquette and her appearance suggested that she had just rolled out of bed. We may try this location again in a year or more but for now there are other nice places in Red Deer that serve good food and you don't have to put up with these types of servers. read more

My BF and I have been going to OJs for years and have generally always loved it! The service is good and there is short wait times for food. The Caesars are to die for, the best Caesars we have ever had! I also love they sweet potato fries with dill dip. There nothing on the menu that we have tried we didn't like. About a year ago they quit having Sunday night wing nights. We used to come faithfully every Sunday for wings and Caesars, and it was always packed in there! Since they removed Sunday wing nights we have been going a lot less often. Also, when we do go (which is usually still on Sunday's) it's really quiet. I suggest bringing back Sunday wing nights and I'm sure Sunday's will be a lot busier!! read more
