    Track spit out sick

First I came home ready to eat instead of receiving quesadillas I receive chicken tacos. Leo wanted me to bring back to the restaurant or give me a credit . I inform him give me a credit not driving all way back. Decided eat taco now hair gray hair in my food called Leo told him bringing all of the food back very negligent and sicking. I walked hair up and the food took back to the restaurant. This was beyond gross I am nauseated, constant going to the bathroom. We will not be coming back terribly sickening. If I do not feel better in the morning I'm going to the emergency room.

Service is good but our Order was incorrect and the rest of the party was finished eating before it was done. Rice was cold and dry. We thought we would try again after not being here for awhile and won't be back. It's too expensive for what you get.

I've been there twice in the past 3 months (it's not close to where I live) but have had great dishes each visit. My husband, daughter and I had different dishes each time so I've been able to sample a few. Would recommend the restaurant. It's small and welcoming.

Service was great, food was mediocre. The steak meat on the tacos was extremely dry and chewy. the rancheros was flavored well but again steak meat was again extremely chewy. The Flautas was just Okay and the margaritas was good. That was my first and last time going.

About a week ago I found myself in homewood for work. I'm not in this area often, but this place was recommended by the client i was visiting, and we were STARVING. Another coworker picked it up, so i didn't see the actual restaurant or get a feel for the atmosphere at all. All i know is, this was the best veggie burrito I think I've ever had. Seriously, this sucker was LOADED, not just with your standard green pepper and onion fare. Bell peppers in red, green, and yellow, plus corn, black beans, broccoli, tomato, and zucchini. I can't say I know when I'll find myself in Homewood next, but I can say I know what I'll be having for lunch that day!

As a first timer, I wasn't sure what to expect but my overall experience ended up being a pleasant surprise. I happened to be in the area unexpectedly and decided to meet my family for a quick lunch. We arrived around noon on a Sunday afternoon to a fairly empty restaurant. We were greeted immediately by a server and seated shortly thereafter. Our server came over to take our drink order right after we sat down too. The restaurant has nice traditional Mexican decor and a pleasant ambiance. There was an odd pungent odor in the air though. It kinda smelled like cleaning products mixed with something I couldn't quite place. I got used to the smell though and it didn't ruin my experience. We all opted for tacos with rice and refried beans. We shared steak, beef and shrimp tacos. They were all pretty tasty and filling. They were served with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese but I had for a side of pico de gallo too. The fresh pico gave the tacos a slight kick. I liked the beef taco the best but they were all really tasty. The rice and beans were were good too. I wouldn't say the rice was the most flavorful I've eaten but it was still edible. The portion size was average but the meal was more than satisfying. I'd say the restaurant is slightly more expensive then most Mexican places. The taco dinners were $15-16. The bills was $55 for three taco dinners and 3 Cokes. With tax and a generous tip, the bill was over $65. That's pricey for a Mexican joint in the suburbs in my opinion. I probably won't return anytime soon but it'll remain on my list of acceptable dining options in the Homewood/Hazel Crest area.

Authentic and Delicious!…read more I was in the area with my family, and we decided to stop in for a bite. We walked in late one Sunday afternoon and were seated promptly. Our waiter was a polite gentleman who was pleasant and affable. I ordered a mango margarita and my sister had a Paloma. The margarita appeared to have been dispensed from a pre-made container. It wasn't something that was freshly blended. It was decent but a little too sweet. I didn't finish it and ended up ordering a Coke later. My sister enjoyed her Paloma though. My mom had a ground beef taco and a chicken tinga taco. She didn't like the chicken but enjoyed the beef. My sister and I both had the rice and beans. For tacos, we ordered chicken tinga, Carne asada, and al pastor. The tacos were phenomenal. They were flavorful, tender, and authentic. The tacos are small, like street tacos, but it was more than enough. The rice and beans were also tasty. My sister didn't care for the rice, but I enjoyed it. We all agreed that we'd visit Maiz & Barrio again. The restaurant vibe was lively and comfortable. The restaurant decor is tasteful with vibrant colors and beautiful wall art. The restaurant is a decent size, so the tables aren't too close together. The bill was $116 for the three of us, which included a 22% tip.

None of the previous businesses were able to hit the mark, or last for any significant amount of time. Maiz & Barro have seemingly figured it out. There are so many Mexican restaurants in the south side ... both of the fast food variety and also the ones offering full service. However, most of the ones actually in Oak Forest don't offer table service, so it's nice to have this spot in the neighborhood. The food is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is lively, and the service was great. We've been here a few times in the past and the food has always been good. We stopped in for lunch during this visit and we did not leave disappointed. The tacos are very good and the complementary salsa they serve is delicious. Not my favorite Mexican food in the area, but definitely good enough to warrant repeated visits.
