The menu could've been clearer, it didnt show how much it would be to add meat to the nachos or a burrito. I got (top to bottom) al pastor, tinga, and chicken tacos. Would love to give this place a try considering they're local. It's just too bad that I won't get the chance since they steal packages. So I made it to Vida Tacos. I somehow thought it was a sit down restaurant with table service. There were plenty of tables, but not table service necessarily. You order at the register and sit and they bring your food. Problem is the young lady on the register also brings the food. So when she brought out our order with a missing taco and no salsa, the wait to get it was too long as she was taking orders from the line of customers waiting. When the missing taco carne out they added a complimentary one, which I appreciated. Also, they only have mild salsa. The freshly made shells were thicker than I prefer. We had steak tacos and I also had al Pastor. Both were very tasty but at $3.50/ taco my visits will likely be infrequent. My daughters ordered churros. They were good but not warm at all. read more

Underwhelming - How do you make Mexican food boring? Go to Vida Taco for dinner. We went for lunch. Three of us ordered two tacos each - asada, frida, sirena and tilapia. They sent them out on two plates, so we all had to share plates. The best thing about the tacos was the tortillas. The tortillas are homemade and quite tasty. But the tacos seriously lacked any flavor. I'm not sure how they managed to do it, but the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Tacos had absolutely no flavor. The chicken taco was just a grilled chicken tender with very little seasoning. Dessert wasn't much better. How do you make a flavorless churro? Probably the same way you send it out half cooked. The food was about as exciting as the decor...plain white walls, no artwork, no musIc. Thankfully we ordered a banana roll so we left on a decent note. A banana wrapped in an egg roll wrapper and fried. The only reason they are getting two stars: it was clean and the tortillas were pretty good. But, I won't go here again. There is certainly room for improvement but I hope this place thrives and becomes a landmark in our community. We really need more authentic Mexican restaurants around and this is a much welcomed addition. I would caution all locals to not give this place a low rating over things that are still being worked through. They are a new family-owned business and deserve a chance. Any low/negative ratings (especially over small things) affect their success and ultimately, directly affect small businesses in our community and the livelihood of our community (including property value...!) Now on to the food...the tortillas are amazing. They have an amazing bite to them and don't fall apart after they sit for a few minutes like most other commercially made tortillas. The bacon wrapped shrimp tacos are amazing (could have used a little more sauce) and the chorizo tacos (off menu) are bomb. Everything tastes fresh, homemade, and authentic. The inside aesthetics could be improved by making the space feel warmer/cozier. Maybe some drop down light fixtures, artwork feature local artists, etc.? It doesn't feel like a traditional sit-down restaurant but also doesn't feel like fast casual. It is stuck in some weird place in between and I believe with the family-oriented community, they would do well to put some more thought into the interior design. The cost of the tacos is only a problem if you are used to eating taco bell. For real, homemade food, there is no way a business will survive by only charging you $2 per taco. If they do, I wouldn't want to eat it because lord knows what is in it. I imagine that once become more established, they will be able to employ more staff but for now, the young lady taking the orders is always very pleasant and helpful. We had lunch here Sunday afternoon. I had the steak tacos. The service was friendly. I asked for a side of pico de Gallo and got a plate of nachos with a huge scoop of pico in the middle. The pico was very fresh, but mostly tasteless. It has tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lime, but no distinct flavor, except for the flavor of the cut veggies: I was expecting much more. The tacos I had were also fresh, and the shells handmade and tasty, but a little too thick. The flavor of the tacos was just bland and the whole thing was very dry. There were no lines served with them as well. I was not asked if I wanted traditional style or American style. They were served with shredded lettuce, cut tomatoes, carne and cheese. My lunchmate had the veggie burrito and it was ok, but some of the vegetables seemed to be soaked in a hot brine that was not expected, nor advised of. One other thing: we were told that chips were complimentary, so I wanted a "side of guacamole" the person asked if I wanted "chips and guacamole" and we agreed, only to learn later that the cost of the 'chips and guacamole' was $8 a plate. read more

We decided to stop in for dinner on a whim, and I'm so glad we did! We had chips and salsa to start; the pico de gallo was so fresh and delicious! We all ordered taco dinners. The carne asada was amazing! I definitely recommend trying your tacos with onion, cilantro, and cheese. The handmade tortillas were delicious and that special touch definitely made a huge difference. The dinners came with generous servings of rice and beans as well. Hands down some of the best tacos I've had! A very welcome addition to Homewood! Tried them with carry out last night for the first time. Hubby had a chicken burrito, I had a veggie burrito and we shared chips & guac. The portions were more than generous, plenty of chicken and the large amount of guacamole was pleasantly surprising! Everything was delicious and we have lovely leftovers! I would have preferred a hotter temp on the veggie burrito, but since most of the ingredients are from the fridge (lettuce, tomato, onion...) I get why is was somewhat cooler. No problem.. that's what microwaves are for! There is sufficient indoor seating for post-COVID dining and a few outdoor tables. The owners were friendly and helpful. The location is quiet and just a few steps from the shops in our downtown area. Parking is not a problem. Can't wait to try the Horchata next time! We will most definitely go again! read more

I've been coming here twice a week in the past few months, and I can say that their tacos are ok. They're not consistent, but they are better than going to nasty greasy Burrito Station down the street. However, here's my notes on JUST the tacos. 1. Asada- not that flavorful, but I'd order again 2. Al Pastor- pretty good, not that much flavor, but better than the steak. 3. Frida- Do NOT order this. Its VERY dry and the chicken is NOT shredded. I have ordered this taco on 5 separate occasions hoping it'd get better, it doesnt. 4. Tilapia- I wouldn't get this again, it had a weird taste. 5. Sirena- the best taco they have. Full of flavor and I love the chipotle sauce. However, on a number of occasions this taco was cold. COLD. There is one last thing...The owner (wife) is very unwelcoming. This establishment is in my town of Homewood; we are all friendly people here. I'm not expecting her to act out of character, but jeeze you would think she'd be a little more friendlier to continuing patrons. Smile, ask me how's my day, say "thank you, see you next time." I've been loving Vida Tacos for a while now, and the love is growing. Always fresh, hot, delicious - our double bubble friends we've been socially distancing with on my deck, whenever they come down from the city we know what we're ordering: shrimp tacos, al pastor tacos (those are a given) steak, chicken, tilapia also all good. Guacamole and chips are so amazing. Last night we also got a chicken mole dinner to split and we were fighting over it - so delicious. Even Yelp labels the 2 star option as "Could've been better." That's exactly right. There is nothing wrong with this place other than it's prices don't match the food. It is perfectly acceptable Mexican food, but for a $9+ burrito or a $3 + taco, I think its fair to expect some sort of extra pizzazz, like homemade refried beans, spiced rice, guacamole or tortillas (I'm told they do make these for the tacos but my wife had those and wasn't blown away.) Instead, it's all just your regular run of the mill Mexican take out with watery beans, flavorless rice, the usual cheap cut of rubbery steak, watery salsa etc. There's a time and a place for that kind of food and we all love it, but not here and not for the price. read more
