They had plenty of open tables (Knicks game 5). We were greeted and served by Alook. He was polite, attentive and efficient. We ordered chicken vindaloo, butter chicken, rice and a garlic naan. The food quality was excellent. No questionable chicken here! It was juicy, cooked perfectly and sauced to perfection. The chicken vindaloo was ordered hot as was the butter chicken. It was perfect. Me and my friends have been coming to Cilantro for over a year now, and it has never been nothing less than the best food, service, and time! I have tried most of the vegetarian menu and every entree has left me more than satisfied. Try coming on weekdays during lunch so you can have the largest and most varied portions during their lunch specials! I found this place through instagram and I was craving for Indian food so we went. They offer a lunch buffet for $18.99 per person and of course me and my husband opted for a buffet. When we sat on the table I ordered mango lassi and the server ask if we want naan, so we said sure thinking that the naan is part of the buffet. My husband ask for another naan after the first one because he really enjoyed it. After he serve it to us, my husband ask if the naan is part of the buffet because he saw he server ring it in the computer and he said no. We think that he should've told us in the beginning and honestly we would still order it but then the fact that it was offered after we said we will get the buffet seems like its part of the buffet so we're like okay cool! We were so excited to check this place out! There was 4 of us in our group. The staff quickly welcomed us and showed us to a table. Once seated we were all given waters. After looking over the menu and asking all of our questions, it was time to order. We all ordered entrees and shared a couple of orders of Nann. I ordered the Kadhai with Lamb, and went with medium on the heat. The dish was so full of flavor. The heat was just perfect for me, and I like a little heat. I am not sure I chould have gone with a higher level. While we all loved the Nann, we thought $8 for the small portion was alot. We really enjoyed the Samosa's as well as the Onion Bhaji. Loved the food here. We were with some friends that were vegan and so we shared appetizers that were vegan. They were amazing. We shared the Nann bread, Vegan Samosas, and Vegetable Manchurian Momos. We did not miss the meat at all. We ordered different dinners that each one was delicious. Lamb Quorma, Butter Chicken, Aloo Palak, and Veggie Qorma. Our server Alok was so friendly and attentive. Not a good experience here. My husband is still on the toilet after having dinner here last night. Other then that here is a list of our experience: 1. Service was crazy slow even though we were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant. 2. The waiter finally asked if we were ready to order, we said yes, and then he went and sprayed down and cleaned 3 tables in the empty restaurant before coming back over to take our order. 3. We were given warm tap water. We asked for some ice twice before we were told that the ice maker is broken. 4. I ordered a rice bowl which is a rice base, a protein of choice, and a sauce of choice topped with some veggies. All items are standard items that are offered all over the menu. I was told that I could not order that. I inquired further and was told that they have no veggies. So I said that's fine, I just want the rice, protein, and sauce. I was told no, I can't have it. Ummmmm??? So I ordered a paneer (protein) in a sauce (offered as an option on the bowl menu), and it came with rice. ????? 5. The dinner entree that both my partner and I had was the Madras Curry. He had his with chicken, and I with paneer. The paneer didn't taste right. I can't put my finger on it, but I normally love paneer and this was tart without a lot of flavor. But it was the curry that was the big disappointment. It was watery and had none of the traditional coconut flavor that this type of curry normally has. My partner passionately loves Madras curry and it can be hard to find. But we were both so disappointed. The frozen Trader Joe's meals we get taste so much better. 6. The bathroom was really dirty. There was tp all over the floor and the toilet was dirty. When I washed my hands it was clear that the soap was watered down. Eww. 7. We ordered 3 breads and they were all not good. Small and flat with no flavor. We all normally love our naan bread and I enjoy roti with a curry, not this time. We did get the samosas and the chicken 65 as appraisers and they were both good. For $100 between the 3 of us, it was a pricy and disappointing meal with rude terrible service. If you look at my other reviews then you will see that it's rare for me to leave negative reviews. I prefer going to local places and appreciate how hard it is to survive and thrive in such a tough industry. Everyone can have a bad day, but all these issues in one dinner service need to be addressed so that other customers don't have to deal with the frustration and sick tummy after a terrible meal. There are a lot of options in the area, and I'd strongly suggest going elsewhere. read more

This is my second time eating here. The 1st time i had the butter chicken and Naan which was great. The ambiance is very nice and the staff is friendly. However my second time i ordered a too go order of the goat biryani. Upon eating the 1st bite the cilantro tasted a bit soapy and the food was way too salty. I did not finish the order. I guess I'm used to having the options of more sides with an entree, and thought rice was a staple. I paid an extra $5 to have cheese naan on the side. It was ok, but not super cheesy. You get to pick your level of spice, and medium had just enough kick for me. The food was good, but for $22 I expected a little more. I think I would try the lunch portion next time. It wasn't at all what I expected but it was delish- a bit sweet and tangy from the yogurt with a lot of heat kicked it at the end. The Samosas somehow still remained crunchy underneath all the sauce. For our mains, we ordered chicken tikka masala and mutter paneer. Both enjoyable and well flavored. The hot naan was buttery and thin (I prefer a bit thicker one but it was still good!). Been to Cilantro a couple of times before a few months ago-went for Sunday Lunch it was not busy and they now have a buffet, but did not want that so went off the menu. Got the chicken tikka masala and naan bread - the chicken tikka was more like a runny soup with vegetables as a filler and the naan bread barely warm. Not their fault but not helped by the infant who puked up all the naan bread the male had been feeding him which the mother to her credit cleaned up but took her over 10 mins - just a thouroughly awful and disappointing visit - won't be back read more

Our office does lunch here on a regular basis. We're always seated quickly, greeted warmly and treated to excellent Indian food at a great price. The menu contains a wide selection of lamb and chicken dishes, available in a range of spiciness from mild to credibly hot. Lunch comes with Dal, samosas and naan. They also have a buffet if you want to try everything. I've also ordered to go and brought their delicious food home. The dining room is small so get there early if there's inclement weather. Otherwise, there's plenty of outdoor seating. The door on the side feels like it's stuck, but it's just heavy. Give it a good yank. read more

In general, the food was good. The service was very good, and it was a nice clean environment with lots of light from large windows. We shared the vegetable Biryani and Paneer Masala. The Paneer was very good and at the correct spice level that we wanted. The biryani was ok or maybe good, but seemed to be missing something. We have had this elsewhere and somehow they make it with great flavor. I guess we expected a bit more. When we added the Raita that helped a lot. We visited Cilantro for the first time and had a good experience overall. The atmosphere was better than I thought it would be, but I still wish the dining room wasn't just one big room with tables side by side by side. Some dividers would really enhance the ambiance. They had a good menu selection -- both for carnivores and herbivores. I ordered the Vindaloo chicken and my friends ordered the Butter Chicken and Vegetable Korma. They all tasted fantastic and came in a bowl for scooping. We were asked if we wanted rice or pita with it. We all ordered pita, but also ordered one bowl of rice as a side item for us all to share. TBH, the rice was probably the better option because the dishes are all very liquidy/soupy, and we ran out of pita for dipping or scooping long before we were finished. Mine didn't seem to have a lot of chicken and what I thought were chicken ended up being potato, but maybe I just didn't realize. And when we ordered the pita, we were asked if we wanted plain, garlic, or butter. One of my friends asked about a cheese version because she had it before. The server said there was an upcharge and she was cool with that. The rest of us ordered garlic pita. When the bills came, all of us were charged for a $1.50 upcharge on the pita. I didn't realize garlic pita was an upcharge. It wasn't presented that way, and I don't like surprises with my bill. Be upfront with me about what I'm paying for, please. So, like I said, we had a good experience overall, but I'd be a bit more selective on what I order next time and specifically ask about upcharges (if any). read more

This new Indian restaurant has only been open a week so there are still some supply and decor (there are still chicken pictures on the bathroom doors from the last place) issues that need to be worked out. This location has recently been a taco place then a hot chicken place then a Southern place so I hope Cilantro breaks the pattern and succeeds. When we entered the restaurant on a Wednesday night, it was full so we waited for an inside table. (There are also tables out on the patio but it was rainy out.) The menu has a lot of familiar entrees although was missing some of my favorite Indian appetizers like Onion Bhaji and Lentil Soup. Also, beverages weren't listed on the dinner menu so I searched online to find them as they are on the lunch menu. When it came time to order, we asked for several items that were not currently available (Sizzlers and Masala Chai tea) or they had run out of (sodas and all desserts). We chose Butter Chicken and Chicken Korma, requesting mild for both, and Samosas, Papadam, and Butter Naan. (You have a choice of rice or naan with your entree and we chose rice and then ordered a side of naan). We got 3 large Samosas with tamarind chutney on the side, which was a great deal for the price. They were very tasty. Then came our entrees, rice, naan and papadam. The papadam were so cute, and plentiful, and served with mint chutney. Instead of large disks, they were small fried crackers - they were so good! And again a great value for the price. In fact, all of the food was delicious and generous servings for the price, with the chicken being all white meat. We had enough to pack up the leftovers for lunch the next day.
