    Biryani with veggies
    Bill W.

The place is incredibly cute! Lots of windows and the curtains are Saris-dresses. We ordered the paneer with the reddish sauce and the other was Biryani. These are pretty good. I liked the Paneer slightly more. The waitress said the portions are large, but we didn't agree with that. They were the same sizes as almost all Indian Restaurants. I suppose for the price, I would have appreciated more if the veggies were not frozen. The white rice that came with the Paneer was plain and wished it had a bit more pizzaz, maybe peas, saffron for example. When you add the prices in, with the overall flavoring as fair to pretty good, we felt that it would not be on our list upon our return to Clermont. We have been to countless Indian Restaurants and so we compare many factors in the rating. That being said, the red did a bustling business for a Sunday afternoon.

Ordered for delivery. Fast delivery. Food is hot and so delicious! We went with the butter chicken, garlic naan, and chicken biryani. Flavorful and fresh. Big chunks of chicken and the biryani was packed full! Enough to share.

Solid Indian restaurant in Clermont. Service was fantastic, our waitress was friendly and by the end of our dinner felt like we actually made a friend. The food was standard Indian and had great flavor. I think this is def one of the better restaurants in Clermont that we have visited so far. Cheers !

First time at Guru in Clermont. We left happy, filled with delicious food and a great experience. This is a hidden gem in an old shopping area. It's on the first floor, so depending on where you park, you can walk in and see it or you may have to walk downstairs. There is an elevator if needed. The restaurant is filled with vibrant colors and has such a friendly staff. Everyone seemed so willing to help us. I had seen the menu online so I knew what I wanted to try. I came with two others, one of which has not always been willing to try Indian food. I think this restaurant changed his mind! We ordered garlic nan, delicious although it had a few burned spots but was filled with flavor. We also ordered classics: chicken tikka masala and butter chicken, both had a medium spice level and were so flavorful! Delicious. My husband got the beef bhuna - Chunks of beef cooked with sliced onions, green pepper, fresh herbs and spices - level 4 of 5, quite spicy! He loved it. He said next time he might do level 5 because it wasn't as spicy as he thought it might be. All in all a wonderful experience. Hope to be back here soon. Great food.

I am a longterm Clermont resident, and never really tried Indian food until my son took me to another, newer Indian restaurant here in town a couple of months ago (review to follow). That wonderful experience made me open to giving Guru a try recently. I brought my BFF with me, who isn't much of an Indian food fan. I convinced her I was sure there were a couple of nonspicy dishes that she should like, so we gave it a try. They had some tables outside which we opted for, as it was a beautiful night and the restaurant itself seemed a tad on the cold side. We were greeted, seated, and offered some very crispy chickpea strips called pappadams with whole cumin seeds embedded in them. They were served with a mango chutney and some chopped onions that were coated in something red. We liked the mango and onions, but BFF wasn't a fan of the cumin seeds. I asked where I could find their curry on the menu; shrimp curry is my new fave. The owner directed me to Shrimp Bhuna. I asked for extra veggies in it, too. My friend ordered Butter Chicken which is breast meat in a tomato cream sauce, and we also ordered some Butter Naan to go with it. Our food came out rather quickly, and we noticed that our food had no salt added to it whatsoever. Both of us had to put copious amounts of salt onto our entrees to get them to have some flavor. The Butter Chicken was tasty, though the chicken was a bit dry. My Shrimp Bhuna, though, was not anything I was expecting. It had a flat, one note flavor that was very disappointing. I'm not sure if this is one of the dishes that they point you to when you don't want something overly spicy; but lack of spice shouldn't translate to a lack of any nuance in flavor. The prices are pretty steep, too. When I go to the other Indian restaurant, I have enough for two meals which makes it more economical. I really wasn't interested in bringing any home and neither was my friend. The Naan bread was nice and chewy, with generous pieces. All in all, if this had been my first toe dip into the world if Indian food, it unfortunately would be my last. I hope I just had a bad experience with my entree choice, but I'm not going to chance it going back again.

I can't say enough of how DELICIOUS every dish and bite this made my night! We felt very welcomed and appreciated for first time customers. The flavors taste and textures and seasonings were ON POINT! Generous portions and a number of options for vegetable dishes as well! The owners were extremely friendly, professional and conversational. You can tell they take pride in their business of serving and want the customers to experience food that brings everyone together. I cannot wait to try other dishes. Highly recommended .

We have been craving Indian food since we moved here. I found Guru on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. The popadom was presented like we would expect chips and salsa. No other Indian restaurant has brought them out like this. Very nice touch. I had butter chicken (medium spice) and my husband had chicken tikka biryani (medium spice). We shared garlic naan. The spice was nice and not overpowering. I will try hot next time to compare. I'm a spicy kinda girl but not so much that it overpowers the whole dish. We had leftovers and do not usually take them with us but it was enough for lunch and we all know Indian food is amazing the next day! We are going to add this to our new favorite places we have discovered and will be back again and again.

This is our go-to Indian restaurant near Clermont, hands down. The restaurant is in a busy area but slightly hard to find spot, so drive around a bit and follow the signs to find it. The restaurant itself is small and intimate with indoor and outdoor seating options. The servers are quick and happy to offer recommendations, if you need them. The food is absolutely delicious--and the portions are huge. Go ready to feast! We started with the non-veg mixed appetizer, which I highly recommend. (We've also had the veg mixed appetizer, which is also delightful!) My husband order the guru biryani and I had the malai kofta--so good!! We got everything with naan, of course, which really isn't necessary due to the generous helping of rice offered with the malai kofta. However, the naan is so good that you're missing out if you skip it. Trust me, get the naan! They are careful with the spiciness and happy to guide you. I like some spice, so I went with medium. It was perfect for me, and my husband said he had no problems with his either (he also went medium). Consult with them if this is a concern, and they will help you navigate the best spice level. We left happily full with leftovers to enjoy for several days of lunches. If you haven't tried this restaurant and like Indian-or if you want to just try some authentic Indian food-this place is terrific!

I am actually impressed! This place was really good. As a vegetarian, there are so many options for both vegan and vegetarian ! Partly why I love Indian food, the other part is the taste. Menu: I love how they listed out which dishes were either vs me having to ask which is what for each dish and everything is in separate categories! This made it much easier to decide what to eat! Dinning room: There's plenty of indoor seating and outdoor seating. All the tables are lined with white linen table clothes and already preset with water glasses, sharing plates and silverware so it gives off a set dinning feel. The food itself: I got the vegetable bhuna with light spice and onion garlic naan. First off, their naan!!!!! So so so good! Their naan is some of the best naan I've tasted. It was so fresh, so light and had a decent amount of seasoning on it. It says "clay oven Indian bread," so I presume a tandoor oven! It was cooked to perfection! I really want to try their other naans. The bhuna was served with basmati rice. A little more spice than I expected for light spice. But it was still really good!! I can see it being "too spicy" for those who are sensitive to spicy but if you enjoy spicy, they also have medium, hot and fire. Price: the food is a bit pricey! The good thing is, although my meal was $25, there was enough for a second meal (at least for me). The break down ends up being around $12.5 for 2 meals (which is standard). Though, if you're dinning with multiple people, it would be great for sharing! Service: there was a lot of staff but everyone was very nice and attentive! I did ask my server for recommendations and she was able to help guide me through a few options! Overall: I would love to try other things! Definitely will be back! Side note: (completely out of their control but for the building they are located in) outside of the restaurant it's a bit dark, esp at night.

A Clermont staple and I always come here after a break up! It's so comforting and always hits. The portions are pretty big so it's good to get a couple things to share and still have enough for leftovers so you can mend your broken heart at home afterwards. All of the servers are so nice and attentive always checking in to see if we need anything. I tell all of my friends not from Clermont about this place because honestly no one can compare! Hopefully the next time I am there it's not to soothe my broken heart but Guru just always hits the spot.

Lamb rogan josh, chicken tiki masala, butter chicken, chicken tandoori

Visiting family for my husband's birthday and Guru's came highly recommended. We are VERY picky about our Indian food and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and ingredients. And being that our son & daughter in law had never tried Indian cuisine, we wanted to ensure their dining experience was above bar! Gurus is definitely family owned and the decor, service and attentiveness of the staff made this apparent. The drink menu consists of wine, beer, Indian drinks and soft drinks. With our drink order in we also decided to start with some vegetarian Samosas and an onion bhaji. Both appetizers were cooked perfect with the spices inside the samosas balanced right and the serving sauces for the onion bhaji bringing a nice herb flavor. For our main course, we ordered chicken tandoori (bone in), butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and chicken tiki masala. Oh yes, an order of garlic and regular naan to soak up all those good sauces! Since our family had never had Indian, they were very happy! We, too, were quite pleased with the quality, price and serving sizes. What a gem Clermont has in its backyard! Shout out to our server Nicol who made our experience fun and memorable for my husbands birthday. We will be back!

My wife ordered the Butter Chicken with a side of rice, and it was absolutely delicious. The curry was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. Coming to the food, while most of the Punjabi and North-west Indian fare on their menu has been the typically Americanized Indian food for the most part, anything outside of that category on their menu can and will throw you off. Especially if you've had the authentic stuff and know what those dishes taste like. On our latest visit last night, we ordered dahi tikki for appetizer which was served to us without the dahi. No attempt was made on part of the server or the kitchen staff to correct the error and provide the yogurt dressing. So we had a couple of aloo tikkis (spiced potato patties) with the regular chutneys that were at the table. We also ordered chicken vindaloo, bhindi do pyaza and butter naan for the entrée. To our surprise, the chicken tasted nothing like vindaloo and it had potatoes in it!!! LOL! For the uninitiated, Vindaloo is the Indian interpretation of 'Carne de Vinha d'alhos', which was introduced in the early 16th century to the former Portuguese colony of Goa in India. In Goa, the dish is colloquially known as 'vindalho' or 'vindaloo' and is prepared in a very similar manner to its Portuguese counterpart. It's a type of braised meat prepared with bold fiery spices and wine vinegar to impart that recognisably bold, pickle like flavour and has a beautiful, rich brown sauce. Vindaloo has absolutely NOTHING to do with Aloo (potatoes) in any shape, way or form. What was served to us seemed like some Frankensteined variation of Chicken tikka masala with some potatoes thrown in at whim. The bhindi do pyaza was alright in terms of flavor but the team in their kitchen ignored to discard the cap/stem of the okras causing the preparation to have a rather unpleasant texture and mouthfeel. The butter naans were also very inconsistent in texture. The first one was fine, the second one was overcooked, brown and crispy and the one we ordered to go was slightly undercooked and doughy. Also, not sure if it's worth mentioning, but the lights inside the restaurant kept being dimmed to the point of being turned off several times when we were seated at the table at around 8:30PM. I'm not sure what's going on with this restaurant but if the owners and staff actually read the reviews, please do something about it. We have been to Saffron before and we used to really enjoy the food, the service and the overall atmosphere. But lately it's been all going downhill. The only saving grace is that the portions served here are still huge. But that won't save the restaurant if the quality of the food and everything else keeps tanking. It'll be a shame to see another good restaurant fall from grace. We would absolutely urge the owners to take notice and fix things so those of us who have loved this place in the past can keep returning.

The restaurant was empty, out there was another Indian couple eating, so I thought that's a good sign. We visited for a late lunch on a Friday. I asked about the lunch specials which they have from 12 to 3, I think it's only weekdays but not for sure. The deal gives you so much variety and it's only $13! It comes with a main dish, two apps, soup and a dessert. Pani puri to start with the green shots, the dahi puri comes with a yogurt sauce. Samosa was perfect and I ordered the Chilli chicken with fried rice. It was soooo good, I ordered it medium but it was pretty spicy. I really loved the flavor, so unique. My husband ordered the chana masala, which was also very good. I loved the sweet ending with 1 gulab jamun, covered in the typical honey sauce. I wished there would have been more than one, but everything was excellent!!

The bhaji was fried with mostly onion and potatoes, and pretty good with the mint chutney provided. The soup was more flavorful, with either tofu or paneer and the broth having both Indian and Chinese spices. I went with the butter chicken for my main plate, and request hot level spice. My mom ordered the misal pav, while my dad took the green curry with paneer. My butter chicken was good, but there was no heat noticeable. While I tasted some spices, there was no fuel to any fire. The chicken was a bit in the tougher side, but still enjoyable because I believe it had tandoori flavor. My mom's misal pav had more heat, and was good with the lentils. After adding onions and other toppings, it brought the Indian street food flavor. We took rice instead of the bun. My dad's green curry was also good, but on the sweeter side. The paneer as the requested protein was consistent in the texture. For dessert, we took two orders of ras malai, which was homemade. It was definitely a legit dessert with the ricotta cheese balls in the milky sauce with Indian spices on top. Just delicious! After finishing the food, we all agreed that it was quite enjoyable. The service was attentive and it was table service, but there were some things we had to do ourselves. A large bottle of water was provided, and we have to fill our cups ourselves. We also had to move our used plates and items to the side of the table, the made the space quite cramped. We also packed the foods ourselves to take home. However, our server was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very casual, with various movie posters on the tables, and the music playing classic Indian movie songs. The dining area is small, but it was pretty quiet with not many people when we were there. Mirchi is located in a strip mall in Colonial and Dillard Street intersection, and parking was not difficult. Mirchi reminds me of a smaller version of Bombay Street Kitchen, with just a smaller dining area and more limited selection. I wish they still had South Indian options like dosa, but they stopped about two months ago. Still, for street food, it was quite enjoyable, and the prices were reasonable. We paid about 85 dollars after tips. Just expect casual, no frills atmosphere. If you are looking for a more upscale experience, their sister restaurant, Cilantro is a couple miles away in downtown Winter Garden. With the good Indian food at reasonable prices, we will come back, and also give Cilantro a try as well. Overall: B

The ambiance is just okay--nothing particularly special--and it was noticeably warm inside. With Indian food already being on the spicier side, a cooler temperature would definitely make the dining experience more comfortable. We ordered the rogan josh, palak chaat, samosas, chicken biryani, Jaipur dosa, garlic naan, and a few drinks. Service started off a bit slow--we waited a while for our drinks--but once things got going, the food came out fairly quickly. One thing I really appreciated was the variety of chutneys served with the appetizers. That was a great touch, especially since many places tend to be pretty minimal with those. Everything we ordered tasted really good, and you can tell the flavors were well done. See photos below. Our total came to $105 for everything, which felt reasonable for the amount of food we got. Overall, the food is definitely worth it. Next time, though, we'll probably go with takeout to skip the wait and enjoy it at home.
