I found this place through Uber Eats, only to find that it's not actually that far away from my house. First off, this is around the fourth or fifth time we visit Saffron Indian Cuisine in the Sand Lake area. The restaurant, in our view, has gotten increasingly lacklustre in the past couple of years. While the tables and the interiors are still generally clean, we have noticed wobbly table legs and cracked/torn seat covers that seem to remain unchanged and/or unrepaired for months. Coming to the food, while most of the Punjabi and North-west Indian fare on their menu has been the typically Americanized Indian food for the most part, anything outside of that category on their menu can and will throw you off. Especially if you've had the authentic stuff and know what those dishes taste like. On our latest visit last night, we ordered dahi tikki for appetizer which was served to us without the dahi. No attempt was made on part of the server or the kitchen staff to correct the error and provide the yogurt dressing. So we had a couple of aloo tikkis (spiced potato patties) with the regular chutneys that were at the table. We also ordered chicken vindaloo, bhindi do pyaza and butter naan for the entrée. To our surprise, the chicken tasted nothing like vindaloo and it had potatoes in it!!! LOL! For the uninitiated, Vindaloo is the Indian interpretation of 'Carne de Vinha d'alhos', which was introduced in the early 16th century to the former Portuguese colony of Goa in India. In Goa, the dish is colloquially known as 'vindalho' or 'vindaloo' and is prepared in a very similar manner to its Portuguese counterpart. It's a type of braised meat prepared with bold fiery spices and wine vinegar to impart that recognisably bold, pickle like flavour and has a beautiful, rich brown sauce. Vindaloo has absolutely NOTHING to do with Aloo (potatoes) in any shape, way or form. What was served to us seemed like some Frankensteined variation of Chicken tikka masala with some potatoes thrown in at whim. The bhindi do pyaza was alright in terms of flavor but the team in their kitchen ignored to discard the cap/stem of the okras causing the preparation to have a rather unpleasant texture and mouthfeel. The butter naans were also very inconsistent in texture. The first one was fine, the second one was overcooked, brown and crispy and the one we ordered to go was slightly undercooked and doughy. Also, not sure if it's worth mentioning, but the lights inside the restaurant kept being dimmed to the point of being turned off several times when we were seated at the table at around 8:30PM. I'm not sure what's going on with this restaurant but if the owners and staff actually read the reviews, please do something about it. We have been to Saffron before and we used to really enjoy the food, the service and the overall atmosphere. But lately it's been all going downhill. The only saving grace is that the portions served here are still huge. But that won't save the restaurant if the quality of the food and everything else keeps tanking. It'll be a shame to see another good restaurant fall from grace. We would absolutely urge the owners to take notice and fix things so those of us who have loved this place in the past can keep returning. read more

I had high hopes walking into Saffron Indian Cuisine on 7724 West Sand Lake Road, Orlando FL. especially arriving right at 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday when the doors opened. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. My wife chose the buffet, assuming everything would be freshly prepared at opening time. To our surprise, every single item on the buffet line was cold -- from the rice and chicken dishes to the biryani and palak paneer. If a restaurant opens at 11:30, the food should be hot and ready to serve. Cold curries and rice immediately take away from both texture and flavor, and in this case, the dishes tasted flat and lacked the depth of spices you expect from Indian cuisine. Based on this visit, I would recommend skipping the buffet and ordering from the regular menu instead. Buffet selections often feel like the more economical options, and here they were devoid of the bold flavors that make Indian food so memorable. I ordered the chicken biryani from the à la carte menu. It was noticeably better -- aromatic and more flavorful than the buffet items. However, it still missed an important element. Traditionally, biryani is prepared by marinating the chicken and cooking it together with the rice so the spices infuse the meat and every bite is cohesive. In this case, while the rice carried some fragrance, the chicken itself was not well marinated and tasted bland on its own. It felt more assembled than thoughtfully cooked together. Another important point is pricing. The dishes are on the expensive side, and at those prices, the flavors and overall quality should be excellent. When you're paying premium prices, you expect depth of seasoning, proper preparation, and attention to detail -- not cold buffet trays or under-marinated meat. Service was the bright spot of the visit. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our meal. Overall, not a terrible experience, but certainly disappointing. With better attention to temperature, flavor development, and consistency, this place could justify its pricing -- but on this visit, it fell short. read more

I ordered today butter chicken and lamb biryani. The butter chicken was almost sweet no spice at all, I didn't have a choice on spice level while ordering the lunch portion. The lamb biryani was dry not tender at all. I was able to select medium spice, but it was not spicy. The best thing was the samosas and the garlic naan. Entered a flow state while here recently and I've been coming for a decade. I can't believe I haven't written a review. I'm convinced it's the best Indian food I've ever had and I've been all over the world. Honorable mention to their butter chicken, saag paneer, and lamb korma. Remarkable service as well. My girlfriends treated me to dinner at Saffron Indian Cuisine, and it was our first time. The restaurant was clean, nicely decorated, and had a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The servers were very polite and friendly gentlemen who made us feel welcomed We started with veggie samosas, which were perfectly seasoned and crispy outside. I enjoyed dipping them in the mint and tamarind (brown) sauces. The orange sauce on the samosa plate had a nice little kick, and everyone at the table loved it! I ordered chicken korma for main dish, one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the creamy curry sauce with nuts. One of my friends had lamb korma, and the lamb was soft and flavorful. Another friend ordered a different curry and asked for "medium spicy," it was vivir too spicy than she expected. She was sweating, but enjoyed it., So Indian "medium" can be quite spicy. So, if you're not used to spicy food, I'd recommend asking for mild--I always do after a few lessons learned. We didn't order dessert because we were all so full and ended up taking leftovers home. Wow, the servings here were like twice the size of any other Indian place we have ever been to. Food was very delicious and it was a little different than we have had other places which was a nice change of pace. Highly recommend. Even the mild had a little bit of spice so if you can't handle spicy, then definitely tell them no spice. read more

One of my favorite Indian cuisine restaurants in the area. Came here for the Weekend Lunch Buffet, available only on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30AM to 3PM. This buffet is an absolute feast--a colorful, flavor-packed spread of curries, biryanis, tandoori specialties, and fresh vegetarian options that showcase the depth and richness of Indian cuisine. The buffet also comes with a drink and a side of nann bread. I love this option as it allows you to explore a variety of dishes that you normally may not try. The food was hot, well attended from staff Cohen continuously stirring, and refreshing. Flavor was spot on, I tried also new things that might become a new favorite. My friend and I love a variety of cuisine. It had been a while since either of us dined at Saffron. Service was excellent and we selected an assortment of dishes. Their garlic naan was outstanding. It was light, crispy, and hot with just the right amount of flavor, The lentil soup was not impressive. The Lamb Xachuti (medium). Paneer Makhani (medium hot), and Veg Pakora (drizzled in each sauce from the condiment on the table) were served hot and totally pleased our palettes. Their garlic naan rice was cooked perfectly, fluffy and aromatic. I look forward to my additional take home fish, Delhi Butter Chicken. The restaurant's decor was simple yet sleek while the music was at a reasonable level (we could hear the app ads). The bathroom was tidy, but needed some TLC. When I saw that Royal Southern Kitchen was closed my heart sank. Their website mentioned their several sister restaurants, of which Saffron was one that also had a weekend buffet. I realized I was going to be in the area the next Saturday, so I decided I'd give it a try. They did not disappoint! The buffet is $20 and comes with a drink and choice of freshly baked naan. Skip the soda. It's poured from carafes, so it's really flat. Choose something uncarbonated instead. The garlic naan was really good. It's thin, so some pieces were a bit burnt. Still delicious though. I don't think there was anything on the buffet that I didn't enjoy. The tandoori chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The chicken biryani was mild, so it's great for someone who wants to try biryani without the usual spicy kick. If you want something spicy, make sure to get the fish curry. It's really good too. There were two desserts: fruit custard and rice kheer. The custard was decent, but the kheer was amazing. It was like a rice pudding. I would have gotten a second serving, but I'd already pushed my stomach to its max. If I'm over here on a weekend, I'm definitely coming back! read more

I love love love this place. I come here every single time I come to Orlando. I always ask for their lamb vindaloo, samosas, and garlic naan, making sure their entree is really spicy. The food here is so good so I will be sad when I leave Orlando but it'll definitely be the first thing I think about the minute my plane lands in this city again. Come hungry! The portions are huge and the food is delicious. The Lamb Sheek Kebabs and Chili Paneer were standouts, and the Chicken Tikka is a total win for the kids. Don't be fooled by the photos--the decor is pretty basic/functional in person--but the flavors make up for it. This is my go to Indian place in Orlando. I would highly suggest going for their brunch buffet, which is such a great deal and the food is outstanding. The service is nice, they are very attentive. Now, at first, $25 for the buffet caught me by surprise a little, but I remembered what inflation is like as well as the fact that I was in Dr. Phillips, and it made perfect sense. The buffet is the way to go, as it's $5 more than most of the entrees, and includes naan and a drink. I understand not being able to take food off the plates to go, but the naan? It's not like we asked for a second order, I just didn't want to waste the pieces from the single order. The food was good though...esp the goat biryani and the tandoori chicken. The butter chicken seems to have been in heavy demand (it was around 1 when we got there) and I had to hunt a bit for pieces. My husband and I were vacationing nearby and felt the need for some Indian food for lunch. This restaurant is small and modern. There's plenty of available parking outside. The restaurant has a small bar serving a few alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Their lunch menu is very well priced for a lot of food! The lunch specials were a choice of curries that came with a vegetable samosa, small lentil soup, mint chutney, rice, naan bread and a mango pudding-like dessert which was deliciously light and flavorful. The food came out piping hot and stayed that way while we ate. Other à la carte items like tandoori chicken tikka, lamb kebabs were available. The server was kind and attentive, he came by twice to ask if we were ready to order and made sure we always had water in our glasses. The food itself isn't the best Indian food I've had but it was very satisfying compared to all the American food I was eating at Disney. I was especially pleased with the paneer dishes because I usually go for chicken and lamb but my boyfriend's family is vegetarian and they didn't mind sharing; the paneer dishes were very yummy. That's another plus, all the dishes were portioned big enough to share with at least 1-2 people depending on your appetite. This spot is an absolute gem! It has some of the best Indian food I've had in a long time. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to our party of 10, especially for a walk in. The spot is pretty spacious and clean with a very upbeat vibe. The prices were decent and the portion sizes very fairly good. The food was all very delicious and well flavored. I had my usual, chicken tikka masala, and loved how full of flavor the dish was. The naan was soft and well made. We also tried a multitude of the other dishes including the Kadai Gosht, Tandoori Chicken, and Andhra Chicken Curry and ate the dishes family style. Everything was flavorful and delicious.
