The food was horrible. The chips were stale And If you're going to serve lab grown meat. Let the customer know beforehand. That needs to be stated in your menu. I've owned cattle and that wasn't hamburger meat nor steak. I couldn't tell what that was. I have photos. Not everyone can tolerate artificial food when your customer purchases directly from a farm. The food was bland! The salsa was acceptable, but the chips tasted stale. The El Sombrero meal felt incomplete without any refried beans or tortillas, so I ordered some separately and was charged $3.99 for what seemed to be bland and likely canned refried beans. The birria tacos also lacked flavor and were extremely bland. Our server didn't refill our drinks and was quite reserved. The ambiance was decent but missed the Mexican-themed decor. We intended on going somewhere else but they had weird hours... they closed to have a break between lunch and dinner. I have not been here in probably 10 years. We were immediately sat (there was one other table of customers in the entire restaurant). We got warm chips with the red and white salsa. Our waiter was good, he took our order and brought the drinks out promptly. My husband had chicken fried rice which was a large portion than he usually gets at Plaza so he was happy. My steak fajitas were good.... a little weird with tomatoes in them but it was fine. I know this location is always packed earlier since the have a lunch buffet from 11-3 I believe. We missed it which was fine. I have no complaints but nothing blew me out the water to want to return. read more

Cinco De Mayo Mexican Restaurant is located along US 17 in Yorktown, VA. After visiting Williamsburg for the day, we decided to try this place out for dinner on the way home, even though it was a bit off the beaten path. We originally thought that maybe we would take advantage of the buffet, but apparently that is only during lunch hours during the week. Our visit here was on December 8, 2018. Once we came inside, we were immediately seated. Someone came by and dropped off chips and two dips. Then our server came over to the table fairly quickly and asked for our drink orders. After getting the drinks, he asked if we were ready to order, but weren't just yet since it was our first time here. However, at that point we did order the cheese dip. The menu here is similar to what you would find at other Mexican restaurants. Some time went by and our server came back to the table and we were ready to order. I ended up going with the Burrito Grande, substituting the red sauce for cheese sauce. After some time, the entrees came out to the table and were quite hot. The burrito went very well with the cheese dip on top of it. The burrito was very good and had good flavor to it as well. Overall, the food was good here. On the service side, I would say that service was okay on this visit. The server had some other tables, but seemed to pay more attention to those other tables, maybe since they were larger parties. There were a few times where it was hard to get the server over to the table. Overall, it was a good experience here. The food was good. There were some hiccups in the service, but maybe it would be better next time. Even with that, we do plan to come back again in the future when we are up in the area. We've been going to Cinco de Mayo for over 20 years and have always found it to be a great Mexican restaurant and a great value for the money. However my wife and Grandson recently went for dinner and had to shock of our lives. Prices have absolutely gone through the roof. We found that the food was exactly the same but dishes that used to be 10 or 12 dollars are now 18 to 20. I got Seafood chimichangas, my grandson got Seafood nachos and my wife got a beef burrito and three iced teas. The total bill was $75! The whole time I kept thinking myself we could have gone to Carrabba's for that kind of price. Again the food was okay to good but it was absolutely not a $20 meal. Will continue to visit Cinco for lunch where their prices are still normal but will never be back for dinner. We couldn't afford it! read more

Born and raised in Southern California, where good authentic Mexican food can be easily found. Love living here but have had a VERY hard time finding comparable Mexican food until now. This small restauarnt sits in a shopping center next to an Asian Masssage place. Why we stopped? Not sure but I'm very glad we did! We were greeted by a not too friendly host that sat us down (without menus) right away.... but don't let the Sammy Haggar look alike deter you... the food was so good and authentic. It's a solid 3. What saved it from being a 2 star review is perhaps what I ordered (Surf and Turf) was actually pretty good. The steak wasn't dry and the shrimp was flavorful. There was suppose to be scallops in there as well but...if you consider scallops the size of thimbles to be scallops, then charge $19 for the plate, order it. I don't think it was worth it for that price. It came with beans and rice. Parking was decent, and covid restrictions seemed to be enforced. Because we had a family dinner, they sat us in the same room towards the back which was nice. We didn't sit together in one big table but we were able to get the back room to ourselves (tables and booths). Service to order food was quick and the drinks were strong. After our orders were taken that's when it went down hill. I just want to clarify that I review everyone as and they earn their way up. 3 stars to me is not a bad review. It's a solid and means they meet my expectations. Because I did not give this place means they didn't go above or they stood out in any means. You come to this place when you want decent food and typical service expected from a Mexican restaurant. After our food was served, we probably didn't see wait staff unless we flagged them down. What I didn't appreciate was when we did ask them a question, they were very short with us. "Does this come with rice and beans?" Their answer, "no". Ok, I guess saying "no" if fine but wouldn't you at least expect, "I'm sorry that it doesn't but we can get you a side of rice and beans for $2.99 would that be ok?" (Disclaimer: I don't really know how much the side for rice and beans actually are). ‍Then BAM, another sale for your restaurant! We went in on Cinco de Mayo, and I've worked in service industry. I understand a busy day or multiple. The experience we had and the service we received was beyond agreeable, and certainly not professional. We've attended this establishment with open minds for years, just because of conveniency. No longer. The waitresses wear clothing that gives you the atmosphere of a Hooters, yet with attitude that hasn't progressed since 15-16 year olds. A truly shocking experience for myself and the 7 others that were there. When you request a table of 6 and they say, "yes we can do that" you don't think you'll be left without. I try to understand because the service industry is hard, and these days no one wants to work... but at least hire people who can. read more

My husband and I recently moved into the area (we are Phoenix, AZ natives), in our search for good Mexican food we were directed to Cinco de Mayo by a gentleman who had lived in Tucson previously, since he had lived in Tucson we were hopeful that he knew good Mexican food. The menu leaves a lot to be desired (like it doesn't specify if the beef is ground or shredded, doesn't specify what meat, if any, is used in the enchiladas/tacos/tamales for the combo plates). My husband and I both ordered combos, he got a taco (he requested a pork taco which he was upcharged for), enchilada, and tamale; I ordered a chile relleno, chile con queso, and an enchilada. Neither of us finished, I can't tell you exactly what my husband thought was wrong with his food (he just said it was "gross"), I CAN tell you what was wrong with mine. The chile relleno was stuffed with Taco Bell quality GROUND BEEF...what the? good chile relleno is stuffed with cheese (and in some cases shredded beef or chicken but if it has meat it should be specified) there was no breading on the relleno and there was really no chile! there was a small slice of canned green chile under the ground beef, the enchilada was a stale tortilla stuffed with the same bad ground beef (again with no specification that it was a meat enchilada I was expecting cheese) and smothered in a canned sauce that hadn't even been heated up well, and the chile con queso was white Velveeta with another stale tortilla swimming in it. The salsa was...eh...but not as offensive as the rest of our meal the chips were too thick and over reheated almost to the point of being burned, and that weird "white sauce"? what the heck is that stuff? It tastes like ranch dressing and who in their right mind eats ranch on tortilla chips? In the west you'd be laughed out of the restaurant for asking for something like that...YUCK! The service was pretty much horrible as well. The server didn't ask if we had ever been there before, he didn't ask if we had any questions and answers to the one or two questions we did ask made it clear he wasn't interested in sharing any knowledge he might have had about the menu or the restaurant with us. He never asked how our food was once it arrived, and he didn't even make a remark when he was asked to clear our full plates. We left the bulk of our dinner on our plates (all but a bite or two of everything) paid our bill and left. We will not return and I'm back to knowing the best Mexican food in this town is just going to have to come out of my kitchen. read more

My husband and I ate dinner here tonight and were pretty disappointed. I ordered the supreme burrito, which was anything but supreme. I've had better burritos come from the freezer section of the grocery store. There was very little taste, the beans were whole and had no flavor, there was no cheese, and no sauce. When our server asked how it was we did politely explained that it wasn't great and didn't have much flavor. I mentioned that I was used to refried beans and she brought out a side of those to see if those would have more flavor. This is the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one because those were ok. My husband's dinner was average. The margarita was ok so this place might be decent for a drink but don't expect much from the food. read more

With Plaza Azteca right down the street, this place is not worth it. It's lower quality, bland and way to heavy on cheese and sour cream. Everything was just so disappointing (Plaza Azteca was packed so we decided to try some place we could get into, next time we'll wait). Oh, and the worst, somehow they decided to age discriminate us... we were placed in a back room with all older people, most being at least twice my age. There was a clear line of age discrimination going on in where you were placed, and seriously I'm annoyed by where I was placed in that grouping! I don't have a grey hair on my head, why was I seated with the old people that all seemed to know each other and walked around talking about health problems?? This is by far one of the worst Mexican Restaurants we have ever eaten. The only thing good I can say say is that the parking is good. We came on Saturday with our families and ordered food that came with high expectations due to the good reviews. Needless to say we were very disappointed. Just my meal alone I asked the difference between the Steak a la Mexicana and Carne Asada. The choice on both was either a T-Bone or Prime Rib. We ordered the Prime Rib Medium Rare. We were told by the waitress that the only difference was the flavor in preparation. Well to our surprise the meat that was brought to us was a beyond over cooked thin slice of road kill. When I asked her why the meat was served like this she said that is what they call Prime Rib. It was hellacious. I will fill another page if I discuss the horrendenous of the other dishes ordered. The only thing that saved this dish was the flour tortillas. After a long trip we did not have the strength to fight with mananger or waitress. Going forward we will scrutinize any reviews from Yelp since these were not even close to accurate. read more

This place is really good if you're looking for simple and cheap TexMex food; nothing special or fancy about this place. I've been coming here for 20 years and like this place. Their salsa and chips are off the charts and you can tell they are authentic by their rice and beans. Also have fantastically huge margaritas. Their chicken nachos are so delicious!!! It's your typical Tex-Mexy Mexican place. You'll find all the regular stuff on the menu. I did like that they have carnitas (pork that is slow-cooked in lard, resulting in juicy, tender meat with a slight crispy sear on the outside), and they were pretty well executed. However, it could have used a little cup of mojo sauce served with it to give it a heat/acid kick. I had a jumbo margarita - it could have used another shot of tequila. The service was attentive. My fiancee and I went here to have lunch today. I ordered the #2 and my fiancee ordered #9. According to the menu, the #2 came with a chili rellenos, a beef taco, beans and a guacamole salad. When I received my order, everything was perfect, except that my chili rellenos, consisted of an ice cream scoop of ground beef with cheese on top! I was sure there must be some mistake. When we asked our waiter Francesco, he replied that was chili rellenos! Ummm I'm sorry, but I have never gotten a scoop of beef called chilis rellenos before. I complained and was told that they would charge me an extra $1.25 to get a "Chili Poblano!"! What? No explanation on the menu as to what "their version " was. It wasn't the waiters fault, he was friendly and I could tell he felt bad for having to charge us extra. We also ordered a margarita and a beer. It wasn't like we were going super cheap. I called 5 different Mexican restaurants in the area, and they all said a chili rellenos is a roasted poblano chili with melted cheese inside, which is what I expected! I'm just very disappointed that they would charge me extra for something that every other Mexican restaurant considers the norm. Our feet do the walking. Won't be back.
