What a fun evening! Tucked away upstairs above a restaurant in Escondido Clue Avenue Escape Room is a great evening out with friends. We had a group of 8 (ages ranged from 11 to teens, to us adults) and got out of the room just in the nick of time to save the day! Our goal was to save the day before the evil scientist released a nasty toxin into the air. We had so much fun searching for clues to help us escape. There is help if needed but not always necessary. The room seems small at first but opens up. They offer various scenes and we are excited to go check out and have another adventure. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or a drink after. Make sure you let them know you visited Clue Avenue, many offer a discount on your bites and drinks. A great date night, friend date, or even family fun! read more

This was a really fun escape room. It was the easier one but still challenging even though we got out with about 13 minutes to spare. It seems as if you can choose a difficulty level which would be employee initiated hints. We chose easy. We'll definitely try medium next time. The host Serena (spelling?) was FANTASTIC, and made it fun by helping us plenty when we needed it. It has been a while since our last Yelp review, so this is us again: we are empty nesters who enjoy playing for fun and playing just as a duo, and we make it a point to try an escape room at least once a month, and in a different city every time we do. We do return to the businesses we enjoy, to do other rooms they have, especially when, as in this case, we had been en route to the lovely town of Julian, CA, our final destination for the weekend, where there's no escape room at all in town, and only so decided to stop off in Escondido instead, for our fix. Needless to say, we plan a return visit, and for longer this time! Clue Avenue / ArtHatch has to be one of the best examples we have seen of small businesses working together to provide us with a totally unusual and highly enjoyable time out. Clue Avenue is actually in two locations, and we were really lucky to have started our adventure with them with Annie's Footsteps in their ArtHatch location. ArtHatch is an art gallery, with a small bar, located right in Grand Avenue, the quaintest strip of businesses in Escondido, nestled amongst great restaurants and cafes. Street parking was free when we arrived on Friday afternoon, and we were pretty bummed we did not have time to look around. To get to Annie's Footsteps, which had been designed by the late owner of ArtHatch (this was not actually made clear in ArtHatch's website, but was what we were told), we had to go through some of nicely surreal visuals that carried into the room, and that totally put us in the right frame of mind for our game. Our waivers had been done ahead of time, and we were in a little bit of a rush, so it was great that when we arrived about twenty minutes early, our room was ready for us. Apparently, it is not unusual at all for people to drive 2.5 hours to get to Annie's Footsteps, because Deputy Drake, our boss in solving crimes, was able to get us started right after we checked out the restrooms (which also have sinks for cleaning brushes)! Annie's Footsteps was designed by Sam W., who had owned ArtHatch before, and the backstory seemed familiar enough: for several years, many children have gone missing near the woods, including Annie - and now Annie's mother is missing as well! As part of a Search & Rescue effort, your team comes across a mysterious locked cabin in the woods - are the footsteps we hear really just Annie's? A little rusty since our last game was a little more than three months ago, we were quite ready to be beaten by the room. A little to our shock, we managed to get out of the room with a very respectable time of 45:47 - but, unfortunately, we were not able to take advantage of the many restaurant partnership discounts offered at this time. The room is as authentically decorated as you could want, and is a good combination of high-tech and low-tech puzzles. The story may have started simple enough, but it got weird and deliciously creepy quick! We loved that there was a timer in the room and Deputy Drake was with us every step (haha) of the way. It was a little unusual for us to not be able to take photos with our own camera, but the photo that Deputy Drake did take was nice and a fun reminder of an adventure that takes you not just through space but through Time, so you may start off as a couch potato but end up going through a wormhole to victory! As indicated above, we did not have time to visit Clue Avenue's other location this time, but we certainly plan to, when we stay longer in Escondido itself. It is the perfect place for a weekend getaway, and with four rooms to choose from just from Clue Avenue /ArtHatch itself, not to mention the gallery works and other businesses in the area, plenty to keep busy with, mind, body and soul. We cannot wait to try the other rooms - and soon! read more

We will definitely come again as they have a lot of different rooms going on. We did Dreamscape this time and it was the one I felt was best suited to kids as far as storyline options. Really fun setup. We bumbled a bit, but our host was really good at monitoring us so the clues would be as helpful as possible. Someday we will escape without any clues! read more

Fun, fun, FUN!!! Now, our family is pretty dysfunctional in a happy and loving way; so the puzzles and deadlines this place put us through had us both excited and laughing the whole way. The greeting room feels a little cramped when you first show up (but we're a pretty big group, plus we're loud - so maybe that may be our own doing), but the friendly atmosphere and mood-setting lead in hyped up our own anticipation to tackle the room we were scheduled for. Perhaps it was our pride, but we didn't ask for hints as much as we probably should have, and the staff of course didn't want to "give up" the answer - so we got to the point of needing just 5 more minutes to escape the room. Once we were presented the solution after our time was up, we immediately figured out our mistake. The sophistication of the puzzles were perfect for the size of our group (it would take forever to solve individually!), so teamwork is a must. We have already booked another room - and will try to not make the same mistake twice! read more

We went on Monday evening and it felt very Covid-safe. We were just our immediate family household and did Villain's Lair. Everything was sanitized and the only other person there was Brad, the game master, who was awesome! We wore masks the whole time and so did he. So we really enjoyed a very safe family activity that was, for once, out of the house...yay! As for the game itself, it was very clever. We found parts difficult and got a little help, but they were the kind of difficult that make you feel great when you "get it." Also, when you leave, you get a list of restaurants around the corner that give a 15% discount if you eat after your game. I had the best brie and fig jam grilled cheese at Burger Bench. My 17 year old son, his 15 year old brother and 4 friends in the same age ranges all did the Villian's Lair to celebrate my son's 17th birthday. They were skeptical at first as none of them had even done an escape room before...but they all had a blast and they keep talking about it. My 15 year old wanted to tell me every little detail and how they finally solved it. My favorite part was how much they worked with me. The first time we scheduled, my son got sick the morning of the event. We were able to reschedule for 2 weeks later with no problem. The second date rolled around and 3 of our group were sick. Again, they let me reschedule the day of the event. Finally, the third time was the charm. I can't tell you how much I appreciate their willingness to work with us. It took the "fear" out of committing to this even. I would absolutely recommend Club Avenue Escape Rooms. read more

this place is just ok, these escape rooms are pretty low budget feeling. We played all of them at both locations, the best one they have is the villain lair one. They did have one stand out puzzle in that game that was pretty fun, but the rest of it was more typical escape room fan fair, but this game did flow pretty well. The dreamscape game seemed very cool at first, but was tarnished by a mood killer poorly implemented audio clue that left us frustrated more than anything else. staff was very friendly no complaints about them at all the other 2 games were really low budget and very forgettable read more
