Best party ever! I threw my son's 11th birthday party at The Grid (boys aged 8-13) and they all had a great time! The owners were there and very hands on, keeping the party going. It was so much fun for everyone and I liked how little I had to do. I actually got to enjoy the party myself. The boys had 90 minutes of VR laser tag like play. We had the whole place to ourselves so didn't have to worry about the boys getting split up, or random people being around. We were able to bring in our own food and drinks, and the kids came and ate as they pleased. If I throw my son a party next year, we will likely come back here. It's a 20 min drive from Solana Beach, but well worth it. read more

We had my son's 10th birthday and it exceeded expectations. Pan was a gracious and organized host, he even let us try out the equipment prior to booking the party. We did the laser tag which had multiple levels and the game naturally switches out the kids so everyone got a turn and there was never an awkward time that you had to tell the kids their turn was over. Before us, another private party had damaged one of the VR setups, it worked for us for half the time and the studio was kind enough to give us extra time and a discount for the trouble. Really great customer service and the type of small business that you want to patron. The pricing is very reasonable, would highly recommend and worth the drive from carmel valley! 20 5 star reviews?! They must've only gone on a weekend and not needed to reach anyone that works or runs it. I bought a Living Social deal for the 2 people 2 rounds of VR M-Thur only option a couple months ago, that expires March 20. Plenty of time for my husband and daughter to use it, so I thought. My first attempt was going online last month to book for my daughter's birthday on a Monday, and noticed they're not open or "available" M-Thur. Confused as they specifically made a deal for those days at a cheaper rate than weekends, I called to ask them about the situation. After a voicemail, my call was never returned. I paid $11 for this deal, but instead, last minute, I spent $50 elsewhere for an escape room on a weekday. It was still in my vouchers to use til March 20, so went online again to see if perhaps the calendar showed different openings. Nope. Called again. No call back again. Last Friday night was my last attempt. They have to be open, right? Maybe a better chance of reaching someone or getting a call back? NOPE. 3 messages and 3 unreturned calls spread out over about 3 weeks, and sure as shit as I came on here to write this review, their hours show they're closed M-Thur. Before my deal expires and for the reason stated in the previous sentence, I'm over trying to give my business to someone who very clearly doesn't want or need it. Kind of impossible to use a voucher that's valid ONLY on the very days they're closed. False advertising to gain new customers, by offering a deal that can't be redeemed, is unethical. Thank goodness I was able to get a full refund. Virtual reality seems to have skewed their idea of actual reality when it comes to customer service. read more

Awesome! Not realizing they're closed on Mondays, my two sons and I went to check this place out. The owner, Pan, happened to be walking by and asked if we wanted to come in and check out the new levels he created. He let us play for half the normal price, and we had a blast! Awesome concept, felt like we were really in the game. They're regular prices are super cheap for the location and well worth the experience. We will definitely be going back! OMG!! This is fricking amazing!! I got it for my boyfriend, a total gamer, and he, a friend and I ( all of us game) went and had a BLAST. Pan is incredibly nice and sociable and the interface was really easy. I'm going to do it again. It's a big workout and good knees are a plus for the ducking and dodging, but I'm a fat 40 year old librarian, and I may have found a new addiction. Had a fun time! The set up is HTC Vives networked together. The way tag is played is you're on islands that have teleporters that will take you to another island. Our instructor, Gonzo, was so patient and thorough teaching us how do use the controls and how to maneuver each game/activity. We experienced six different games/activities in an hour to see what virtual reality was all about however there were many many others to choose from for other days!!! I discovered The Grid through Groupon and man this is one of the best buys I have ever purchased from them. I took my two boys, 12 & 10, and all three of us where blown away with the experience. I really felt like I was in a different universe experiencing myself being a soldier on the hunt or being hunted by my boys. We liked it so much we bought more games after we finished what we had previously purchased. The Hypertag was fun, realistic, and a great way to spend time with some friends. You get a fair amount of movement in as well with ducking and dodging your friends shots! My 12 year old loves laser tag but we were looking for something to do for his birthday and by chance came across the Grid. What an amazing concept. This is the future. In 5-10 years you'll laugh at the idea of laser tag when you can go into a fully virtual world and run and jump as whatever character you want. Beyond fun! My husband and 2 sons (12 and 9)planned some male bonding and I came as the photographer. They had a blast! The owner/creator of the laser tag is SO NICE, interesting, and engaging. The guys started with a half hour of arcade. Everyone has so much fun, but my husband, who has chronic back pain, stopped after 20 min because of the pain. Once the half hour was up, my 12 year old said he couldn't continue with their next half hour of laser tag because he had a migraine. My husband told the 9 year old he would do laser tag for a little bit, despite his pain, so that he would have someone to play with. The owner told my husband and son that they could actually play while sitting. They both liked that idea. However, once the game started, neither my son nor husband stayed in their seats. Both of their pains dissipated because they became so engrossed in the game. Try this place! It is so great that it heals pain! read more
