I was on the hunt for a ropes course for my sister's bachelorette weekend for MONTHS. I couldn't find one that was 1) in the area 2) in our price range and 3) open on July 4th. Not a single one. And then I received an e-mail that UCSD would open up their challenge course for us...a bunch of ladies (and two gentlemen!) who did not know what we were getting ourselves into for a couple hours on a Saturday morning. We only did the highs-only course that was 50 ft up in the air. This included walking on wires, jumping across platforms, upper body strength, and ziplining...to name a few. I know it's not the typical "bachelorette" extravaganza, but I wanted something thrilling and adventurous that we could all participate in together. That's exactly what this challenge course does; it tests your limits and helps to strengthen collaboration, but most importantly, it's FUN! I, personally, was not frightened by the height or tasks we had to do, but it was definitely exhilarating on another level (no pun intended.) I write this review with a profound gratitude for this company because they exceeded my expectations. THANK YOU for giving us a reasonable price per person (every other company I called was $3000-4000 for a group of 12,) being open just for us on a holiday, and integrating such vibrant personalities to lead us through the course. I wish we could have tried things like Leap of Faith, etc., but perhaps there's always another time! I think I've found a new hobby. :)

Special shout out to Trish who organized and facilitated the registration process. Very smooth and detail oriented. YAY Trish!!! Props to the teams: Sat-Ian (Team Captain), Gary, Doris and Arlene Sun-MC, Amber, Andy and Dan This year's obstacles were crazier and even dirtier than last year. I remember last year I barely got wet and/or dirty and I dried off fairly quick. This year was BANANAS!!! Mud, puddles, foam, water, inner tubes, slides, color, and then some. I was happy I got thru the monkey bars without falling into the water/mud pit. I was not happy that the next obstacle (foam inner tube) I was shot with foam in my face going down the water slide and I almost drowned by getting ran over by another inner tube into the water pit. WOW! Thereafter, you have the revolving balls. You have to get across by walking on the tubes without falling into the muddy water. FAIL!!! Almost drowned in 4 ft of water. Then the injury with going up the ladders. I sustained a deep cut on my knee and started to bleed. I ran pass a First Aid booth asking for a band aid and got shut down with a "we're not first aid". Then whyTF were you in the first aid booth?! My fave was the big gigantic slide at the end of the course! You dive head first down the slide. YIPEEEEE!!!!!!! I have to admit, some of the challenges were pretty intense and nuts, but it sure was a LOT OF FUN!!! By the end, we were soaking wet, muddy, foamed and colored. CRAZINESS!!! Our team started together and finished together thru all the moans, groans and pains - hand in hand crossing that finish line!!! Team Yelp represented well!!! See you for year 3!!! ======================================== STATS: MC 1:02:01 Dan 1:01:57 Andy 1:02:01 Amber 1:01:56

I dressed up as Alan from the Hangover as best I could and surprisingly the facial hair and wig stayed on through the race thanks to some well placed super glue that burned like a MFer! The ROC obstacles were a blast! Adult sized slip and slides, wrecking balls, tarzan swings, and huge slides??? Who can ask for anything more? It's just a shame you can only go through once...officially. But the vibe from your fellow ROCstars is awesome...none of the I'm bigger, faster, stronger than you attitude. It's the ultimate fun atmosphere from start to the awesome afterparty. Speaking of which, Lucid Dossier totally rocked and took the party to the next level! Only downer for me was the free beer...Miller 64? Really!?!? I'd rather drink my own piss after a keg of Guinness! Oh yah and the so called "beast" obstacle, total waste of time and worst excuse of physical exertion.

This event was held by mud factor at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center, CA. To make it a 5k, you have to do the same round you already did, twice. So it wasn't anything new and exciting the 2nd round. You had to pay $5 for bag check which was no problem unless you forget something. My friend went back for her bag to get cash because we were thirsty before the run while we waited. To get your bag, you have to re-pay the $5. I get it in a way because they don't want to be fetching bags nonstop but they should have a 1 time courtesy. During the run, we expected more water stations because it was 80 degrees out. Nope... only one after the 1st round and you got a 2nd cup of water after you finish. They were very strict about the water. 1 cup per person. So if you're dying and feel like you need more, tough. Nobody was out in the field taking photos of which we hoped for since we could not take any pics on the course. We hoped we could check out photos on their website later or something. Once we finished, we were disappointed and surprised to see NO food vendors and NO changing stations. So we had to leave and go somewhere else to eat all wet and dirty. Yes we got to rinse off in the Dr. Bronner soap/shower thing but it didn't get all the mud off us. Maybe about 75%. Parking was $10 which was fine/expected but you should carpool if you want to save money. Also... who was in charge of music? Whitney Houston is great and all but I don't want to run to "I will always love you".

Check in was easy and you do need to fill out a waiver, which is customary for most gyms now. Staff very friendly and helpful and gave me a nice tour of the facility. The entire second floor is dedicated for bouldering, which is pretty cool! Lockers were nice and sauna also available too! There were a lot of people on xmas eve but everyone was respectful and bouldering was easy here. My only gripe was the parking issue for this facility. You do get 2 free hours in a garage closeby however I couldn't figure out how to get a ticket printed to validate it. When you enter the lot, they ask you to swipe your credit card and I didnt see option to get a physical ticket. I asked two staff members but nobody seemed to know what to do. I think if this becomes a regular place I visit, parking will need to be sorted. Overall, a great facility and Id definitely come back when I want to climb!

We got it and it takes three pictures of you and we decided on an Avengers one. The picture turned out great, but when we printed it out, there was this big white vertical line down the right side. We brought it up to the lady behind the counter and she said she would get the IT guy. We waited about 5 minutes for someone to finally come around and he goes "It always does that" We expected a refund or something, but nothing. For $5 a picture, what a rip off. If it doesn't work "All the time" how about fixing it and putting an "Out of order" sign on it, so you don't waste $5 on a picture you can't use? Terrible customer service.

I used the card on one of the games but the game was not responding. I tried again and still no response. I decide to go to the counter to see if someone could either take a look at the game or if i could get the credits back. I get to the counter and see 3 or 4 workers just standing there talking, no one acknowledges me. I look around some more and see one worker on the far left helping some customers and another worker on the far right helping some other people. Ok, I'm assuming there's two lines and the 3 or 4 other employees are just taking a break or something. Not a big deal, so i get in the line to the far right. There is one person currently being helped, two teens and then me. The employee finishes with the first customer and then helps the two teens. He finishes with them and when he gets to me he just turns and walks away. He does not say a word, just turns and walks away. A simple "I'll be back in a minute" or even just putting your hand up and saying "gimme a sec" would be totally fine. Instead, no communication, just walks away. I told the group of 3 or 4 people just standing there that I needed assistance and one of them went to refill my card. As i was waiting the guy who was serving the line on the far left came over and asked if I needed help. He was really friendly (he looked Asian or Mexican). Anyways, he's the only reason I'm giving that place two stars instead of one.
