Countless times the wife and I have passed through Glen Rose wanting to stay and visit. We finally…read moremade the time this past weekend and luckily there was availability at Inn on the River. Pam and Scott are excellent hosts and will make your stay enjoyable. The Inn is a historic building and as such has a lot of charm, the grounds are well kept with the back of the property bordering the Paluxy river. Also at the back of the property overlooking the Paluxy is Snyder's Tavern where lunch, dinner and drinks are served. In the morning you'll get to enjoy breakfast in the dining room which is included in the cost of your stay. One thing to note is that the rooms do not feature TV's which was not a big deal to us. A comfortable bed and private bathroom should be mentioned. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

What a neat place to visit for dinosaur fans! We spent a little over 3 hours here with my almost 2…read moreyear old. She had a blast looking at all the dinosaurs. I was shocked how few I recognized. Many dinosaur books do not talk about some of the ones here. I wish they had a book about all of the books you saw during the visit. I would definitely buy it! Most of the books at the gift shop were cartoons or with just a few pictures and a lot of facts. Some fun little things: feeding koi fish on the path, some benches in the shade to eat a snack while walking, two large playgrounds with many picnic tables and a museum to look more facts about dinosaurs. I do wish they would tell us more about the dinosaur prints found in dinosaur state valley park. Many dinosaurs here were found in Canada, Asia, Europe, or Africa. Only a few were around here. I did love to learn about the only one found in a cow farm in Kansas! Overall, it was a great trip, and I would recommend to any dinosaur fans! If you come on a day, 80+ degrees, it will be hot, so bring lots of water, hats, sunscreen, fans, and cool clothes. There is some shade on the trail to get some relief. There is a changing table in the bathrooms with 4 stalls, so it's not too long of a wait when lines form.

Not to be confused with the actual product which I don't love. It's also a museum believe it or not! Dr. Pepper is a weird drink, and one which never really appealed to me for various reasons. It's not bad but it's not great. Like I said just weird. So when I first used to drink it, it tasted like medicine and chemicals, and honestly if I'm being straight up with you it still does. It's a bit like root beer but fresh homemade root beer has something special about it, a bottle of Dr P doesn't. They also make Snapple. Oh snap. Ple. Snapple used to be one of my favourite drinks in the world. I still like it quite a lot. The Lemon Tea was the first one I tried, age 16 in Washington DC wandering around at 7am in a bad part of town, but the Lemonade Tea took its place for awhile... I love both still but I guess I'm back on the lemon now though I used to drink this weekly and now it's less than annually. A lot of the flavours that I used to enjoy are now just bad, like Kool Aid, they probably always were but I was young and didn't know better, but I do think they have some good things going on, especially with the tea flavors. They're little on the sweet side, but you can still taste that tea and I do appreciate that. I have to give them a high rating for introducing me to lemon tea and being very symbolic of my love affair with America from the 1990s that never ended. They'd score 4 if not for that nostalgia factor.

The Yeats-Duke Cabin is located at 214 North Crockett Street. Originally built in 1858 as a 16' x…read more16' single pen log home by Austin Newton Yeats, the house has evolved over time into the structure seen today. Austin Yeats settled in Texas in the middle 1850's with his wife, Frances Bond and her family. Yeats was a house joiner by trade, which may account for the condition of the original log structure today. Yeats and his family were among the first settlers in the area, settling in the area several years before Granbury became a town. Yeats left Granbury only to fight for the Confederacy in the War Between the States. The Yeats family sold the house in 1875 to the Nutt family. The Nutt family was integral to the development of the town of Granbury, having donated the original forty acres the town was platted from. The Nutt family sold the house to Major William Duke and his wife, Sophronia, in 1880. The Dukes came to Granbury from Alabama, and William Duke practiced law and became very involved in the community, becoming a founding member of the Hood County School. The Duke family made several additions to their home, beginning by surrounding the original cabin with a larger frame structure. Eventually the Dukes added a second pen the same size as the first attached by a dog trot. By 1905, dogtrot was enclosed adding a third room to the home and a front porch was added. The last addition to the home came in 1932, with the addition of a back porch next to the rear shed room. The home remained in the Duke family for many years, and it was not until the 1970's that Granbury's first preservationists rediscovered the original cabin inside the structure. The Yeats Duke Cabin now belongs to the City of Granbury and efforts are being made to fully renovate the structure. The Yeats Duke Cabin was designated a local landmark September 5, 2006. Security - there's no way as customary to secure the door from inside, no dead bolt, no latch, no door block on jam, nothing, not even a "do not disturb" to hang on door. So we're there an hour before woman walks in as we're lying on the bed gawking at us, and because the rooms are incredibly small (only window for natural light closed drapes behind tall headboard, coffin-like dark small room) the door and the woman are only 3 feet from the bed as she's basically standing at the end of the bed gawking at us and then shutting door. Noise - there's approx 2 inch gap from bottom of door to floor, so inside the room you hear all the sound from other guests and the restaurant as if they're in the room with you. Insects - for the few hours we stayed until we promptly checked out and went elsewhere, we saw cockroaches at the coffee station, that with the door gaps meant bugs were free to go from room to room to restaurant, including the multiple flying bugs of different kinds that were in our room. Service - we let hosts know (all online, no staff on site) that we were checking out for issues and requested refund. The one time we actually got a call back and spoke to a human, it was broken English (China?), and had to follow up on issues and request for refund again, and then never heard back. We went and stayed elsewhere, paying for two hotels that night, and never heard back from Nutt House.

It has so much charm, but everything has been freshly remodeled, so you get that perfect mix of old character and modern comfort. Our room was spotless and much larger than we expected, which was a really nice surprise. It felt bright, fresh, and thoughtfully updated. The towels were super soft, which I always notice and appreciate. There isn't a traditional lobby or staff working on site 24 hours a day, but that honestly wasn't an issue at all. Ken greeted us when we arrived, showed us to our room right away, and answered all of our questions. He was friendly, welcoming, and very informative. Anytime I texted the number they provided, we got a quick response. We never felt like we were on our own or couldn't get help if we needed it. The amenities were great too. The free coffee bar was perfect in the mornings, and having an ice machine and elevator made everything easy. The complimentary aluminum water bottle was such a thoughtful touch. And definitely make a reservation at Christina's on the ground floor of the building. The food was fantastic and such a convenient bonus to have right there. I was a little worried about parking, but there is tons of street parking available. No problems at all. If you're looking for a cozy, unique place with tons of charm, this is it. We would absolutely stay here again.

One of the most fascinating things about this museum is the fossilized foot prints of what would have been considered the earliest known humans. They were massive and are said to have stood over 8.5 feet tall. I've always wanted to know what made beings grow so large and tall back then? Anywho, see that along with the bones of some of the largest amphibious and land based beings were a sight to be see in fairytale books.
