It's been a long time since my last review, so here's my recent review of this cinema after recent renovations, such as a new exterior paint job. I visited this cinema on July 21, 2023, to see "Oppenheimer" in IMAX 70MM at 10:30 since select sequences were shot with IMAX film cameras. I was impressed with the film projection, and the fact that they brought in an IMAX film projectionist from Los Angeles to handle this theatre blows my mind. The sound was also top-notch, although a bit too loud. The film was quite a thrill with the giant IMAX screen, making it feel like I was in the movie, completely forgetting that I was in a cinema. The IMAX 70MM scenes were presented in a vast 1.43:1 aspect ratio, which can also be seen at Cineplex Mississauga's IMAX theatre for "Oppenheimer" and when I saw "Nope" at Scotiabank Toronto. The only negative is wasted space behind the theatre where the rear entrances are. Cineplex is now forcing people to enter at the front doors. I have no idea what Cineplex would do with that. Unless a movie filmed with IMAX film cameras was released in IMAX 70MM here, I see no reason to come back here. Also, I am aware that Cinema 1 was turned into an UltraAVX and ScreenX hybrid theatre with 4K projection and screens on the left and right sides. I have yet to experience that, but other than that, this theatre is incredible. I recommend this IMAX cinema to anyone in the area or those looking for something more significant than the one in Markham. read more

Recently went to see the BTS "Yet to come" Busan concert at their Screen X. In addition to the normal center movie screen, you also have a movie screen to the left and to the right of center. What an enjoyable fully immersive sound and sight experience enhanced by their screen X theater. Highly recommend, with my layered butter popcorn bouncing to the music I imagined sitting in that huge stadium in Busan and became a screaming BTS Army fan boy for one night. read more

Fine experience overall but this theatre is insanely cold they genuinely have no sense of temperature in there because everyone in the theatre had their coats and scarves on. I really hope they address this because it honestly ruined my experience. read more

It was a great experience! The cinema here was clean. It has a large parking with convenient location to visit. Seats were very comfortable and roomy. Prices for food an drinks are ridiculous as you predicted. Let's just say no prices showing on the food menus. Staff is friendly & courteous. read more

I have visited this Cineplex a number of times over the years. I recently wanted to see Last Christmas (if you don't know, I love 80's music, video games, and more) and this place had the the perfect showtime for me. It was a snowy, slushy day as I drove over for a matinee. This Cineplex used to be called Colossus. Back in the day, its rival was an AMC that I actually enjoyed going to. This Cineplex is still huge, especially when it offers IMAX and VIP experiences. There was also a promotion to use half your SCENE points towards a free movie. I went for it. I used my points with my Cineplex app and simply presented the barcode when I got there. I had no problem finding parking. Sadly, I wasn't wearing the best shoes. They were slightly damp by the time I entered the theatre complex. I actually took off my shoes in the movie theatre to dry them, which is a huge first for me. I wanted something to eat. I got a hot dog with nachos. The woman at the concession stand asked if I wanted cheese (it's more like liquid cheese where you wonder if you are going to grow an extra limb after consuming them) or salsa. I said the latter. Her counterpart chimed in and said that it was extra. I went back to the former. I actually got both in the end and didn't pay extra. Weird! I picked up my order at the Outtakes stand. I brought my Diet Coke with me. I then headed to the theatre. I got there late and did not embark on the various Timeplay games. My seat was roomy and it was dark enough to take off my damp shoes without grossing people out. I loved the movie. It had a plot twist that I didn't expect! The women's washroom was clean. It had a good number of stalls. If the weather outside is crappy, spending time watching a movie makes the day more cheery. It was nice coming here. It had been years since I was last here. Of note, there is a Chatime with a Bake Code within walking distance. I'll need to drop by when I have more appropriate footwear! Bubble tea and a pastry are the perfect post-movie ritual that I can see myself doing. (477) read more

Since I can't give 0 stars, let's say they can keep one for the fact that we were efficiently processed when buying our tickets. It all goes downhill from there. No staff to direct us to which side of the complex to go to for the auditorium our show was playing in. No worries, we've been here before. Would be nice to keep up the standard, though. The real problem with this tired, dinky place is that it STINKS! LITERALLY! This is the second time out of the last 3 that we've been here, that the auditorium REEKED of urine. 2 different theatres, same stink. Appalling. Luckily on this visit, I was almost completely spared of the annoying backseat kickers. I thought I was home free, but about 10 minutes into the film, the latecomers had to sit in the row behind us. Again, at least the backseat kicking was minimal. On the way out, we see a dead bird lying in the lobby. Um ok. We were waiting about 10 minutes for the flash storm to pass before walking home. Said dead bird was still lying there. Oh, did you know that you can save a few percent on your tickets as a CAA member? But, you need to know that first, and, to make it as convenient as all hell, you have to go buy the tickets in a CAA store first. They should hand out some air fresheners to go with those tickets. Sad, sad job on the maintenance of this theatre. I can't imagine risking another go in there until there's a major face lift. I'd have to go in and sniff test the auditorium before buying tickets again otherwise. Disgusting! read more

The best Rambo movie out of the series! Saw it with my buddy Bruce and Big Dave. We all thought the acting was fantastic and the story had depth. Also, enjoyed the soundtrack! Only thing I had a issue with is the movie length. It's a bit too long for my liking. Don't worry Sylvester, I think you have a fighting chance for an Oscar this year!!! Wow, this place is gigantic and bigger than our standard cinemas. I was very impressed of the bar with selection of premium beer but did not partake. Also, there was a separate flavored popcorn booth where you get anything from caramel to cheddar cheese which is nice. Plus, there is your standard Starbuck and yogurt place. What else can you ask for? The theater itself is huge and the Aladdin 3D film was almost sold out. However, we were lucky to get 4 seats together that wasn't the front row. It also has IMAX as well which reminds me of the King of Prussia IMAX but it has only 16 vs 19 here. read more

Colossus set the bar high and stand to be the best movie theatre in Vaughan. It's massive, so way more screen rooms, and more show times. The arcade area is huge as well, with a lot of cool games to spend some time on. The place is setup like a spaceship which is real cool and unique. They have some of the widest/biggest screens and rooms i've been to! The place is always clean and spotless, and since they have more rooms, so chances are they always have way more show times when it comes to new releases, and if you're into catching big movies on their opening night at Thursdays midnight for example. IMAX, 3D, Ultra AVX, wide-screens, this place has it all! Parking is a little hard, but it has a huge parking space due its size, but that's also shared by few restaurants in the same plaza. So chances are, you'd need to drive around for a bit until you find a spot.. Then if you need to grab a bite after, you have numerous choices in the area, within walking distance. read more

Used to be a great theater but has gone downhill in recent years. Staff is downright rude to customers and the tech in the theater is old and outdated. Their UPC scanners are apparently from 1995 and are totally unable to scan a phone's screen (unlike every other Cineplex location I have been to in recent memory) even with brightness turned all the way up and Night Mode turned OFF (so that the whites are properly white). I remember when this place opened in the 1999, we thought it was so cool and it was the best theatre in the area even worth driving to from North York right near Yorkdale (where they had also just opened a brand new, high tech theater to replace the mall's old one). But now it has just gone completely downhill. Now, you have terrible attitude from rude staff, turning lights on in the theaters before movies actually end, not bothering to install lights that actually brighten slowly as opposed to popping on at full brightness, and more. The theater in general is dirty & badly taken care of. This is the kind of place that makes me happy I don't need to sit on anything or touch anything that isn't my body or my clothes when I go into a bathroom (the sinks being the only exception if I don't have hand sanitizer with me). This theater still is 1 of the only 3 cinemas in all of Ontario (and for hours of driving beyond) that you can go see a 70mm IMAX movie in full resolution & as a "real & full" IMAX experience so that's one of the only reasons I would still ever go to this theater and that's the sole excuse for my giving them a 2nd star in this review as opposed to just a 1/5. So yeah, avoid this place unless you have almost no other choice OR they 1) make some serious changes in how their theater is run, 2) upgrade the hardware they're using, and 3) get an electrician who actually knows how to install lights properly to reinstall their theater lighting system. This is the movie theatre of my area and I've come here for more then 10 years now! The crowd is great, they're always playing the newest movies. It's clean. Typical expensive like other movie theatres. They have lots of ticket buying stations and self kiosks to help with buying tickets faster. It's always a fun time! read more

Conveniently located at 400 and 7. Great location as one can shop, dine and then catch a movie, tons of options in the area. Parking never an issue as but I usually come here on a Tuesday afternoon. I probably will come back for a movie to kill some time especially when it is so hot outside. Nothing special here worth a special trip! read more

Famous Players Colossus has 18 screens and one six story IMAX screen. It has a giant UFO on the roof with flashing lights that can be seen for a long distance. You always know you are back in Toronto when you see the odd looking building. The second floor is a fully licensed lounge offering alcoholic beverages and cocktails. The ATM machines are like green aliens greeting you as you enter the building. There are lots of Star Trek decorations hanging from the ceiling. The only downfall is this location used to be a drive-in and personally I love drive-in's and in some places its hard to find one still around... read more

These theatres used to be much better and have gone down significantly over the last 10 years. Once upon a time you could sit upstairs in the lounge and have cocktails while you waited for your movie to start. Instead you wait around the overcrowded and stuffy concession stand area that never has any seats to sit down. These theatres have become the "go to place" when movies are leaving the theatres as that's what's usually playing in most of theirs. It's a shame because this used to be our fav place to go even though it's nowhere near where we live! There are a bunch of kids running the concession stand that don't know anything about nut allergies. We had 4 kids combo coupons we got with their movie tickets. We were asked (SHOCKING!) if any of the kids had a nut allergy. I replied yes, and instead of peanut M&M's they wanted to give us chocolate M&M's?!?! Umm, do they make them in a separate factory? Last i checked none of the M&M products are nut free or made in a nut free facility. Big fail on their end, i brought it up to management and they just shrugged their shoulders at me. I requested a pack of fruit gummy candies that have the symbol for peanut free on them. On another occasion, i had to leave the movie 2x because the people beside us were on their phones. Nobody came in to ask them to turn off their phones. I mentioned something again on the way out and i was told "you should've waited for a manager to talk to". Oh, i'm sorry, should i miss the whole movie now?!? Surprised at the staff hired here and how run down these theatres now look. Sometimes it's our only option like recently when we wanted to see Ant Man & Wasp and it was the only theatre that had a 12pm show that wasn't 3D. They set the bar high when they first opened, but not anymore. Sad because the theatres are huge compared to most places that opened after them including Markham VIP/Cineplex. read more

At first I thought the reviews had to be wrong, Colossus had to be 5-stars, look at it! Upon going into the IMAX theatre and enduring the entire movie this place definitely wasn't as good as I had hoped. The seats in the theatre were cramped as hell. My legs ended up almost touching the heads of the people in front of us. The old, rude person who sat in front of me and my friend kept leaning back to crush our legs. It was so cramped there was barely any room to walk back to your seat if you left. The screen was so huge but we found it was overly blurry at parts. Maybe it was the movie but I highly doubt a blockbuster like Batman would have filming issues. Overall, a bad theatre experience but a great movie. Maybe If I come here again and try a different theatre my review might be (slightly) better. read more

I've only watched movies at this location and the Silver City in Richmond Hill. A few of the benefits of this location are that it's easily accessible by car, right off Hwy 400, and there is plenty of parking. I never have problems finding a parking spot. There are plenty of restaurants nearby for dining options before or after a movie. I usually purchase tickets online and pick them up at the kiosks. The inside is pretty clean. Food and drinks are expensive, like other movie theaters. Don't forget to bring your Scene card for a discount. read more

Place that does the job. It used to be called Colossus for good reason, given the size and design. I remember when this type of theatre was being built and even in my teens I remember thinking the oversized, campy spaceship design would be something they would regret down the road. You can see they're trying to redesign it as much as they can, but there's only so much they can do. At the end of the day, it's about seeing a movie and there's no issue there and you're going to get all your options: regular, AVX, DBox, Imax, etc... Personally, I'm usually for a regular screen and avoiding paying much more than $10 whenever possible - but there are options for everyone. I'll admit that it's nice being able to purchase a ticket and a seat from home in advance for DBox if I feel there's a risk of it selling out, though it comes with a price of course. read more

I lived right by Colossus my whole life. As a kid who grew up in an area that was not fully yet developed like it is today, Colossus was one of my biggest source of entertainment outside of the house. However, I am not just biased because it was my childhood theater. It's a huge theatre and will always have the latest films available for you to watch. I never have to worry about missing any movies I may be interested in simply because Colossus aired it all. It's also great if you love big screens because each theatre room is massive. IMAX is great if you want that immersive experience. Recommend if you are in the area and would like to go to the movies. read more

I cannot say enough on how impressed I am with the management at this theatre. Tonight a friend and I went to see the 9:45pm showing of "Us", and all was well until the cinema lights went up about 15 minutes too early. Unfortunately it was nearly the end of the film, so I did not want to miss it by alerting a staff member to the problem. After the film ended I spoke with the manager on duty, Leanna, who apologized, emphasized, and corrected the mistake immediately without any issue. It is rare to find a manager with such amazing customer service who quickly took to correcting the situation. As this is the theatre nearest me, I will absolutely be revisiting it! read more

If you are comparing this place to Cineplex's VIP cinemas, this place is ok. Back in the day, this was THE place to go see a movie as it was the only one that has the IMAX theatre outside the downtown core. But in the years since it has been opened, it is starting to look a little tired and a little bit outdated. The good news is that there is always plenty of parking so you're never really fight for a parking spot like in other places and it is relatively easy to get to. Overall, it's not a bad place to see a movie - there are lots of theaters and they have IMAX, which isn't easily found elsewhere, so it is still a bit of a draw. But for my money, I'd rather use it to go to VIP for a kid free night. read more

Need more seating area in the food area. The food prices are redicoulously high. Don't know why drinks are not refillable. Fountain drinks are not expensive. Don't install do it yourself fountain drink dispensers if you don't expect people to refill. The washrooms are also very sorry. It is one of the few IMAX around, but I don't watch too many movies on IMAX so it's not really a plus. read more

The official theatre for anyone and EVERYONE living in Vaughan, Maple, Woodbridge and beyond. Great theatre, friendly staff and that coke machine that has 100+ options that always puts a smile on my face (all things Coke lover if you have not guessed yet). Seating is very comfortable, large theatres and ALOT of parking (hopefully you do not end up at the back) Only problem is that it is constantly busy! Especially on Tuesdays with the discounts and the weekends when the highschoolers roam free there, it is best to come 20-30 minutes prior to your movie time just to grab your seats. I also hoped that they would update the food a little bit. for over $20, I would expect to have better quality (non-popcorn related food). Overall, I would still go here because it is the best. And at the end of the day, its just a movie. read more

This cineplex location is the nearest to me and I usually only come here with my scene points when I do have free movies. You can buy most of your tickets through the machines now, instead of with a cashier. Food prices here are also ridiculously high and not worth it in my opinion. I usually only get the food items when I have a food voucher. The seats are comfortable but not as comfortable as imagine cinemas (they switched their seats to sofa seats where you can control the settings to lay down) Overall, this cinema isn't bad, it can be better but I would only come here when I do earn enough scene points to redeem movies. read more

What a gross place. We attended a late showing of Jurassic world and our theatre smelled like a sewage plant. We chalked up the dirty ness to the number of guests. Today we visited for an afternoon showing of Tag and found the same smell and dirt everywhere. Our theatre smells like urine, and there's questionable stains everywhere. This is disgusting! Never coming back. They have areas that guests shouldn't see, just wide open. I grew up in farmland and even I'm uncomfortable. read more

My friend and I came to Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan to view Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel - Lost Butterfly. It is great to see more theatres offering anime selections to cater to a growing audience. As with other Cineplex, the amenities are quite similar across the board. I did wish that there was a poster pin-up for the movie like how other theatres have done it. Overall, it was a positive experience and would definitely consider coming back. read more

This is the perfect place to spend a night out. It is always very busy on weekends and at nights. There is plenty of parking space and the theatre looks like a spaceship, you can't miss it! Colosus is the first IMAX theatre in Canada. They have large screens and parking is easy. It was pretty cool when it first opened, a giant space ship, now it is feels quite normal and makes a great landmark. There is a lot of variety of fast food inside and decent arcade at the front. read more

It is just a movie theater right? Nope its an entertainment destination Ciniplex has been busy trying to be an entertainment destination and bring fun and value beyond first run movies. They have an arcade, they offer a free entertainment magazine, they offer a food court, an online digital rental service and a rewards card called SCENE. With little competition they are pretty much the market share owner. That doesn't justify the high food prices either citing business economics but the large buildings surely have high hydro and heating bills. What they are great at doing is bringing other entertainment ideas to the mix. There are various opera, concerts, special run documentaries and events to the mix. They also have invested in the latest screen and sound presentation technologies that add to the enjoyment factor. read more

They screw up the beginning of the movies almost every tie I have gone there. They just forget to turn off the lights and fix the sound.... isn't that the one thing toy are suppose to do right in a movie theater. The best one was when they put an entirely different movie than what we payed for and took then 20 minutes to fix it.....
